Alum: I liked and didn’t like that it was a small school. It meant that the teachers were very invested in their students though, especially because they knew them so well and usually knew them outside of school too. However, things seemed more competitive since it was a small school which was nice in some ways but put a lot of stress on those of us who were reaching for higher goals. If you weren’t first, it seemed like you were last, in whatever endeavor you were participating in be it academics or sports. Overall I enjoyed my time there but moved into a big city for further education and I feel just as connected to my mentors just without the pressure of feeling like I would lose everything if I made a couple mistakes.

Senior: I have been attending Urbana High School since I began kindergarten. At Urbana I have been given countless opportunities to be involved and make memories. From all of the athletics UHS has to offer, to the yearly musical the school puts on. I have gained so many experiences at Urbana that I wouldn’t trade for the world. Students are most certainly given a chance to stand out and make their mark. We are rewarded for our hard work at the end of every quarter and encouraged to keep it up. Teacher go out of their way to make sure students understand the topic at hand. While in high school I have encountered a few hardships. Halfway through my junior year basketball season, my couch suddenly passed. This not only effected me and the team, but also the community. Everyone came together to supported and encourage us the rest of the season. Students and alumni of Urbana pride in where they came from.
