Senior: I’m currently a Senior here at Christian Brothers High School and I got to tell you, I’m absolutely loving it. I love how CB has a different variety of programs, classes, clubs, and sports to choose from. Ever since I joined, I have received nothing but kindness from both faculty and students. The teachers do actually care about their students, and help them on their academic journey. The atmosphere here is just so welcoming. Senior: I really liked the diversity throughout the students and faculty. I liked how much this school encouraged me to do my best, even when times were at their worst. Although there were lots of positives, a few negatives included basic aspects that would apply to most high schools. Some of the classrooms just seem very dull, along with several mean teachers. Senior: The best parts about Jesuit High School is the "brotherhood" that they try to create for the students. They do a good job with this by giving us the opportunity to bond with one another on religious retreats. These retreats are some of the best experiences of my life. The teachers are second to none being the best teachers that I have ever had. This makes the overall education incredible. The sports and their facilities at Jesuit are also amazing, especially the baseball facilities. Although there is this good side of the school, there is the bad side. The head administration is some of the worst I have ever had to deal with due to their strict rules that they always abide by even when it is hurting absolutely no one. They also do not listen to us most, if not all of the time. Whenever we try to describe a problem that we have, they always brush us off and basically tell us that we are wrong and they are right. Parent: Now two yeas in, I am so grateful that my son is at SWS. It is an emotionally safe environment where the teachers and administration work together for the betterment of all students. They are easy to reach and connect with and I find them to be collaborators towards my son's education. Since there are no tryouts for sports, my son loves that he gets to play even though he might not make the cut at other schools. He enjoys being part of the athletics program, and the social connections and opportunities that come with that. The students are caring and have welcomed him, even though he knew nobody when he first arrived. It's good to see him in a place where he is supported socially, emotionally, and academically. Senior: From my experience, the teachers have been very friendly and understanding. They are willing to put in extra work to help their students succeed. The school is relatively small and thus close-knit. The regular curriculum is challenging while also offering more advanced courses through AP and dual enrollment with American River College. Some things I would like to see change are more sports opportunities since many athletic students prefer to attend Inderkum for high school. NP3 only has dance, and occasionally, basketball. Expanding the sports department would greatly benefit the physical and mental health of our students while diversifying the student body. NP3 focuses mainly on academic pursuits and offers activities such as journalism, robotics, and mock trial, but I would like to see more clubs such as debate or Model UN that can provide more opportunities for academic competitions.... Parent: I have three children attending CCS: 1st, 3rd and 10th grades. My 10th grader began at the school in 5th grade. Our experience through middle, elementary and high school has been outstanding. My 9th grader has had the opportunity to participate in student government, take an AP class (and passed the AP exam to earn college credit!), plays 3 sports and enjoys a campus climate that is welcoming and supportive. He also participated in a Law Academy program, where he was able to visit the local state and federal courts, learn from attorneys and judges, and learn how to read legal cases. It was an incredible opportunity for a high school student. Our kids have all enjoyed the support of deeply committed teachers, who show a sincere interest in their success and growth academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally. Alum: I went to the MET a few years ago. The MET was pretty good, but the standard classes were really underwhelming. I came from a school that had a GATE program, so I was ahead of my grade level at the time, but the classes were not fulfilling my needs. Thankfully, I had the ability to apply to college courses, which was great! I will say though: pay attention to the relationship between you and your advisor if you ever decide to go here. Senior: I've really enjoyed independent study at Visions! All of my teachers have been awesome, I've felt very supported in my academics, and I feel like it was all around an excellent choice to attend as my high school. I love how independent it is; throughout high school, I've been able to work according to my own schedule, which I feel has really benefitted my learning experience. The only real downside I've noticed is that students need to put in effort to interact with their peers. Visions does a great job organizing in-person events, but because it's independent study, students have to put in the effort to show up. It's not like a normal high school where you're around other students all day. This hasn't been a problem for me personally--if anything, I feel not constantly being around other students has been very beneficial--but that might be more of an issue for more extroverted students. Alum: While I had qualms with the administration, they are out of the way enough that it is not commonly an issue. With the teachers I had, at worse they were mediocre, but the large majority of them were fantastic, incredibly knowledgeable, empathetic and passionate. My math and Physics teachers were a large reason why I have been successful, and the students would constantly praise them for making the class better. The teachers worked hard to improve the school, which has an undeserved bad reputation. The clubs were amazing, in my tenure at the school, I saw academic clubs form and have huge academic success, winning math and science competitions that other schools had dominated for a decade. The schools' diversity split is unbelievable, one of the highest in the US. The cultural, and social clubs had a huge reach, the Christian club giving speeches to hundreds of students every month. Parent: I can't say enough of the school and teachers. We had a rough year with being on DL but the teachers were great. When we went back to school for the 2 days and then the 4 days. Again nothing but support from the teachers to all the staff. Love the school and how they make the children interact. Even the shy kids like my son has opened up a lot. Senior: Natomas Charter School is one of the most welcoming and accepting environments to be in. The community is unlike any other, with so many opportunities to express yourself through your chosen art form. However, as a visual artist myself, our department gets the least funding out of the offered art forms (Drama, music, vocal, and dance). We can't go on the same fieldtrips, have as many showcasing events, and the teachers have to ask students at the beginning of each year for donations. We contribute so much beautiful work to our school, and deserve more recognition and financial support. In addition to this, the access to mental health support is limited. For all four years of my time at Natomas Charter, I have been fighting to gain a 504 plan to have accommodations. This has been a constant struggle with admin, with my concerns being dismissed and attempts to reach out not being responded to. Alum: I have tried many different kinds of courses such as AP, honnors, extracurricular activities & sports! There's so many to choose from & they are always so welcoming! I've participated in V.A.P.A activities and won medals as well as some in wrestling! I made a ton of friends and made it through so many challenges with my friends and staff! My best experience is my senior year as we got to wrap up everything and got to do the amazing things with my friends as well as getting ready for my senior speech and projects! It was a ton of fun! A thing I can say however, I wish to be changed for the future is lunch time. We only have 30 minutes, and that's barely enough to get our food in a very long line, sit down and eat. I do wish in the future it can be on average maybe an hour, or at least more shade outside to sit and eat.Some staff as well can try to be a little bit more understanding at times, but as from what I had, it was pretty good. Alum: I went to Churchill before they tried to be IB only. What I remember was a big divide between the expectations teachers placed on the two groups, making the IB students feel special and smart which would encourage them to succeed. I think that making the programs joint is a good first step but they still have different titles. Treating the kids the same will encourage everyone to feel valuable to the school and get good grades. I wish that in IB, there was not as much pressure. It felt harder than highschool sometimes in retrospect and thats really unnecessary at that age. There is also less support and resources than in a highschool, so you really need help advocating for yourself if you need help, accommodations or anything else not following a traditional learning path. Senior: Over the past four years my Inderkum experience has been the high school experience everyone should have the opportunity of. The diversity of the school makes it all the more welcoming for newcomers and an enlightening for those already attending. Cultures are expressed and celebrated in way that are educational and respectful, but fun and engaging! There's a wide variety of extracurriculars as well. There's something to fit many different interests/passions, or your overall goals. The opportunities here are very wide, there's room for everyone to pursue their dreams with a good support system. College readiness programs are available, along with the IB program, both can be very impactful and helpful in college applications and your overall future! Sophomore: I am a Sophomore at El Camino coming from Arcade Middle School and I would 100% recommend you attend there. We have amazing programs such as a medical CT pathway, EPI (Eagles Polytechnical Institute) CT pathway, AVID, Student Government, several different art/media classes (even our own radio station), and so much more! Although we may not have some classes other schools have, our school is very good with being flexible with dual enrollment and taking apex courses/classes at other schools. We also have a great environment with a smaller student population so it isn't as overwhelming as other schools may be. (Plus we are across the street from Dutch Bros...just saying.)
