Parent: We switched to Sheridan during the pandemic joining a small community that focused on the safety of our children while limiting the disruption to their education. The administration did a stellar job. What truly stands out is how well rounded a Sheridan education is. In addition to the more traditional academics, its arts and music instruction as well as its focus on diverse communities through the student clubs is truly exceptional. We chose a K-8 school because of the added focus on the middle school years which can be difficult transition years. As the school skews young the older kids don’t grow up too fast. This is a gentle school. Middle school students mentor the lower school students. My son loves his mentor and he looks forward to becoming a mentor to a lower school student himself. Finally, Sheridan is a school that builds confidence. In 7th grade, students lead their own high school selection under the guidance of their teachers. This is incredibly empowering!... Senior: My experience at Ohio County High School consisted of making many friends through the years and having countless opportunities given to me to take different courses in order to pursue various career paths. Not very many aspects of OCHS should change. However, many students have complained about the service coming from the guidance office and many have gone as far to say that specific job occupants have no interest in helping every student but rather helping a certain group of students that have specific last names coming from families that are well-known in Ohio County. The guidance office needs to be more involved with every student at Ohio County High School about any needs that they need from guidance whether it be for high school, personal need, or college regardless of their origination. Also, something I would like to see change is for administrators to ask for names instead of assuming they know as well since I ran into one of these incidents myself when my friend was misnamed... Parent: I can't say enough good things about the teachers at St. Anne's-Belfield. My child lost a lot of ground learning virtually in public school during the pandemic. His teachers at St. Anne's have gone the extra mile to catch him up without making him feel bad (or even letting on that he's behind). Really love that he has access to learning resource specialists and the school counselor. Can't speak to athletics as he's more of a CS nerd (and the program is amazing btw!), but I understand they are stellar if that's your kids' thing. As with all private schools, I wish it were more diverse, but the school does a good job being intentional about diversity and inclusion so kids are aware and prepared to interact with people of all backgrounds and cultures, even if they don't see a lot on a daily basis.... Parent: Both of our kids started at The New School in ninth grade, after eight years of public school. It was one of the best parenting decisions we've ever made. Everything about this school is terrific. The teachers are passionate, inspired, and inspiring. Small, topics-driven, seminar-style classes foster creativity and independent thinking, while the welcoming atmosphere makes everyone feel at home. Our two kids turned out to be very different kinds of learners, but both thrived at The New School. Our youngest graduates next year, and we'll be sad to think of not having that day-to-day connection. Can't say enough about this wonderful school!... Read 26 reviews
