Parent: I have friends who are attending various private and public schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area from grades 5 on through 12. In sitting down with the other dads it is undoubtedly true that no school has done more to prepare post the outbreak of the pandemic then St Mark’s. Not only their children but their administration and teachers are out of this world! Not only did the school literally review replace hundreds of things across the campus, they’ve also implemented a fantastic screening program, testing program, and communications program for SARS-COVID19. I know that when selecting schools grades, scores and college admissions are the number one priority. I never thought I would pick a school based upon their ability to handle a medical global outbreak. The school has literally blown us away! Parent: Our daughter is a 2020 Graduate. She started in the 9th grade after transferring from another private school. We quickly learned that she was not prepared for the expectations for her grade level but throughout her 4 years, EVERY teacher was willing to lead her to success if she was willing to put in the effort (which she was)! She is going into her Senior year at the University of Texas on the Dean's List and will graduate "with Honors". Parent: Exceptional in every way. We starting in preK and are now finishing another year of high school. Nearly all of her teachers have been phenomenal. Girls are engaging and motivated supporting each other in good times and hard. Particularly impressed with how these girls successfully manage full schedules in high school including challenging academics, varsity sports missing entire school days for travel, and/or other extracurricular activities and events. We are certain our daughter will be more than prepared for the most challenging colleges and life. Middle School Student: I am about to complete my 11th year at DIS. The people here are simply wonderful! The teachers care deeply for their students, the school is open to new ideas (they let girls wear comfortable shoes when they began a campaign against the uncomfortable expensive ones all the other schools require), the cafeteria food is healthy and the academics are amazing! I must however state that the upper campus (5th grade to 12th) has no gym so they often rent UTD or use Sportsplex. Senior: I have attended this school since sixth grade. I feel so at-home in my ESD community. The staff helped us students deal with an unprecedented Covid year and helped us come out of the situation stronger than ever. I am so thankful to the resources that were available to me, even when I was remotely at home: quick email responses from teachers, availability to meet on Zoom frequently, and many other aspects. Parent: The teachers are skilled in dealing with multiple styles of learning (kinesthetic, verbal, and visual) often integrating all three styles seamlessly throughout the day during any given lesson, based on the needs of the child. I am not worried that my youngest child with a summer birthday should be held back a year. Every student receives individualized plans, adjustments are made to assist the child where areas of growth are accelerating them in subjects where they show strength. All of the teachers receive training in the grades above them and they introduce advanced work if it is needed. As evidenced by the many accolades, Alcuin teachers are clearly in the top of their field. Senior: The math and science departments are very strong. The English department has several good teachers, but the grading rubrics and expectations for students make it a bit difficult to get an A in the class. The history department is very lacking and there is maybe one good teacher that actually teaches the class. The administration is somewhat flexible with student desires. I am planning on graduating early but the whole process was a bit of a nuisance. The college counseling is amazing and they really do make sure you get the needed amount of attention. Senior: I came from a smaller Catholic school in Dallas there was fear going in. Many come from bigger and more known schools nearby which I figured would be a smoother transition to the one I would be going into. On my first day I was welcomed by everyone and made friends easily. We were all going through the same fear. Ursuline is a sisterhood, and it was vibrantly shown between underclassmen and upper. There was no separation between us. My four years as a student have been amazing due to the faculty, students and those visiting. It is always an adventure with every event including service. Serviam has been our moto and we all represent it with everything we do. We give back to the world and have become leaders in our community. As seniors we are given the privilege of serving every Monday morning to the destination of our choice. It's a beautiful experience which you make connections with. Senior: Cambridge is very unlike any typical school, public or private. The immediate difference of Cambridge is that it is drastically small compared to any other school that comes to mind, with the student count averaging around 110 students each year. They put Christ on the forefront of the curriculum and try to incorporate how to use the faith in each subject. The academics are very rigorous but with a small student count there is more one-on-one time between the teachers and students. During my freshmen year, I found the campus to be rather small, but it was still nice despite the size; however, during my sophomore year, we had a sudden change of campus because of a tornado hitting the school, and the campus is now inside of a Sunday school, and is a downgrade of what it used to be. The students are overall good people, with the exceptions of a few as typical in all student bases. Senior: Though this school is small, if that what's you're looking for it's great! Very competitive environment and lots of availability for one-on-one time between students and teachers. The involvement of the high school students with the lower school students is so unique to Lakehill. This school makes it possible to do every thing you could possibly want to do. I am a leading member of 3 clubs, in student government, do both the musical and the play, and manage a 3.97 GPA while also being a full-time, out-of-school athlete with practice 7 days a week. If you want to do it all, Lakehill is the place to do it, but the environment is definitely better for those focused on and driven towards successful academics. Parent: We moved to TCA from public school and have been incredibly pleased with the academic rigor, faculty as well as the kind students and families. It’a a very welcoming school and there are many opportunities for families to be involved. The school does a nice job of providing opportunities for the students to bond and while they do have their groups of friends like any other school, the kids are taught to be kind and accepting of others. My child has made new friends because of these opportunities and I have seen other children have similar experiences as well. The teachers are wonderful and very good at communicating. We have seen quite a bit of academic growth in our child since coming to TCA and are very pleased with the progress. We are confident she will be ready for college when that time comes. Freshman: Lebanon Trail is a school that has very good academics, as well as teachers yet there are some aspects that tug my rating down just a bit, including the food quality of the cafeteria, which has been proven by the amount of students who walk out from the lunch line with only drinks, and no food. Also students have complained about the food in the past, leading me to change my rating. The facilities at Lebanon Trail are average, yet we currently only have a few bathrooms open due to the students participating in consequential activities and their lack of empathy to the bathrooms. Good aspects of Lebanon Trail include their Fine Arts program, where the band, orchestra, and theater excel in the school. The diversity is also outstanding, letting multiple cultures mix, leading healthy environment. In general, even though Lebanon Trail has its faults, it still an overall good school to attend.... Senior: The Highlands School has changed my life! I have become a happier and more well-rounded person during my time here. The small class sizes have helped create deep and meaningful friendships. The teachers are also exceptional. I was able to have extremely meaningful and informative discussions with my teachers after school. The Highlands School is great for deep thinkers.
