Freshman: It is an amazing experience to go to Overlake! Coming in as a new student, it was amazing how inclusive the students and faculty are. The teachers hold office hours and really want you to succeed. They even write extensive recommendations for outside school projects and applications. The teachers are honestly amazing and the coursework is challenging. For more advanced student they offer Honors and AP classes and the teachers will always push you regardless. The student body is amazing and since the campus is large you meet people from multiple different grades. Junior: I am a junior at SAAS and I love it. I have been at SAAS since middle school. The amazing science and arts electives are something that is unique to here. I can take neuroscience right after ceramics right after psychology if I want! Theater and visual arts are particularly strong. All academic classes have different levels to them so that each student can choose how much they would like to challenge themselves. The most challenging classes are American Studies (joint Honors English/Honors History) and Advanced Chemistry. The teachers are great and have diverse teaching styles, so there's always someone who teaches the way you learn. While SAAS has excellent sports teams (soccer, volleyball, golf, and ultimate frisbee are the strongest), the school doesn't revolve around sports like a traditional high school. Senior: I am currently a senior at Tesla STEM High School and will have spent all four years here. I love this school for several reasons. The small class size makes you feel at home and forms a strong communal bond. In addition, there are so many opportunities available at this school. Through STEM, I have competed in clubs at the national level, interned at Fortune 500 companies, and had the opportunity to publish my research. I will say though, this is a very competitive school, which can be detrimental to one's mental health. However, this competitive nature drives students to be better and to be smarter. The several AP and Honors classes available to our disposal are both interesting and engaging. In addition, the teachers are phenomenal! They are always available for additional support and help. Senior: As a rising senior, I know that my education at ICS has shaped me into the person I am. From 6th grade to the present, ICS has continued to challenge and engage me with its rigorous coursework (all honors classes). Each year builds upon what I have learned in the previous years, which has allowed me to excel in my classes. The teachers are amazing and dedicated to what they do. Although I may have missed out on some of the larger social aspects associated with a larger school, the small community at ICS is fun to be a part of, as you get to know everyone on an individual basis, including teachers, fellow students, and underclassman over the course of 6 years. There are lots of opportunities for mentorship and leadership with the clubs and activities here as well. Senior: The IB program adds lots of competition to this school. There is a lot of competition for being the best. Students are very exhausted because of IB and AP classes, especially the AP and IB tests in May. There are a couple teachers I really like, their personalities are friendly, but some have good personalities but not the best qualities in a teacher. They get easily distracted with other students and it is hard to stay focused in that learning environment. One of my favorite parts of Interlake High School is the Horticulture program. We host plant sales 3 times a year and students get the opportunity to have work experience by picking up shifts at the plant sales. We complete work orders every week, and it is a great way to contribute to our community and learn about our earth and gardening, especially the business side of the horticulture industry. Parent: Our youngest child is in the 4th year at NWS. Our oldest child is in a different school (senior) and that school has a very high rank with this site. The ranking is only as relevant as your child and family fit. NWS has a strong social justice and sustainability focus, integrated with a thoughtful curriculum. One distinction is their Humanities program. The curriculum integrates language arts, social studies, and geography in Middle School and history, English, philosophy, art history, and literature in Upper School. I did not realize the full meaning of the benefits until I was in a debate with my student with a very integrative argument! The real world is integrative, so why not educate our students that way. The teachers and administrators are passionate about building a whole child and cultivating a caring school culture. Alum: I had a truly transformative experience at FR. The school's rigorous academics, paired with its supportive, all-girls environment helped me become a confident and engaged person. The tuition price is steep, but my parents and I think it was worth it for the college counseling program alone! My teachers really knew me and cared about my well-being inside and outside the classroom. Senior: My experience overall at Redmond High School was relatively good. There are some very qualified and inspiring teachers and staff who made my four years easier and pushed me to try my best. However, there are definitely some teachers at RHS who should not be teaching and who waste their students time and effort by teaching with low quality and self-centered motivations. The social climate at Redmond High is satisfactory at best, it can be very cliquey and dramatic but overall I do not have as many complaints, though there are some people at this school who should be held responsible for their actions instead of coddled like RHS tends to do.... Freshman: Eastside Catholic is a very welcoming school. I found the teachers very helpful, funny and kind. I understood concepts well and I enjoyed every day at school! The course selection is amazing and includes an array of subjects. I like the college readiness classes such as the UWHS classes. I found many classmates who were sweet and accepting of everyone. I liked Health class as it taught us many helpful strategies to tackle addiction, mental health, and improve overall wellbeing. I liked the fact that there were posters in the bathroom and on the walls which gave students information about mental health and how to seek help. I love school assemblies because they are filled with school spirit and fun games. I greatly appreciate the service opportunities given by Eastside Catholic because it really helps me find volunteer activities that I enjoy and love doing. Sophomore: The teachers are amazing and super skilled in their respective fields. However, there are a few rules that allow discrimination and bullying to occur. Middle School Student: Words cannot describe how much I loved this school. Having gone to 3 other elementary schools (the last one definitely not being my favorite), it was a big relief for me having attended this school in my last year of elementary. I can definitely see why they're rated the best public elementary school in Washington...they really live up to their fame. There's a lot of good diversity, the students are super nice and friendly, the teachers are so helpful, and the staff is just so kind. Only thing I'd change would be the separation of Quest (Gifted) and GenEd (general education.) Having been a Quest student myself, I can definitely tell you that while socializing, Questies hang out with mostly other Questies and vice versa. In fact, I don't think I had even one GenEd friend the whole school year. Overall this is such an amazing school.
