Senior: In general, I love my school and am proud to go there. The teachers at my high school go above and beyond to make sure that students understand their content and get the help they need to succeed. The teachers genuinely care about their students' success, not only academically but personally as well. My teachers are always willing to offer support in any way, and I have formed amazing relationships with them. My high school is also a safe space in most aspects, as I personally feel that I can be myself and express my opinions without feeling threatened. However, my biggest issues with my school is the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially during the newest wave. Every day more and more students get called out of class not to return, as they have been exposed to someone with the virus. However, no one has even mentioned putting a mask mandate in place or social distancing. This feels as if the school board is politicizing the pandemic and is not putting our health first.... Sophomore: I have been very happy at Stoughton High School. As a child, I was always a bit different from the other kids. I just found it hard to fit in. At Stoughton, the teachers, the Students, the clubs and the classes gave me a place to fit in. I finally am able to be my authentic self without a fear of judgement. The teachers always challenge me to do my best, because they know what their students are capable of. They show kindness, but are not afraid to be firm when it is needed. Senior: Throughout my 4 years at Evansville High School, I have had a really great time. From being the captain of the soccer team to playing in the school band, there are lots of opportunities. The students at Evansville High School were really kind and welcoming when I had transferred, and made it feel like it wasn't a different school that I was attending. As far as classes go, there a lots of AP and CAPP options that has helped me prepare for the college class setting. Junior: I was a member of the high school program for Oaklawn for the 2019-20 school year up to when corona made us go back to our homes. Throughout my year at Oaklawn, I felt I grew more mature, responsible, and grew overall more as a man. The activities would get boring after a while though, as it was extremely repetitive. At first I did not want to go, but now that it is over I am happy I attended. It wasn't always happy and good, but those tough times were what helped in the growing and maturing process I spoke about earlier. I really wish I could've had the opportunity to finish off my year and get a chance to say goodbye to what I called home for 8 months. It indubitably changed me and impacted my life. It an experience that I will forever remember and wouldn't the same without it. The few problems that I had as a member of the high school program cane fixed easily, so I trust in the faculty and staff in improving the experience for generations to come... Read 1 review
