Parent: We have a rising Kindergartener, who finished his first year at Friends in Pre-K. As a parent, and an educational professional, I personally could not have designed a better experience for my son, especially during the COVID-related shut down. We initially chose Friends for our son because we wanted more for him; we wanted him to learn through experience, to develop thoughts of his own and more importantly to be part of a community that subscribed to similar values as ours. Our son’s first year was FANTASTIC! Notably, while everyone was scrambling to figure things out when the State shut down, our son was being educated and supported in a way that was developmentally appropriate, fun and responsive. The transition to virtual school was so seamless, that it seemed like it was planned for (it might have been). More importantly, the teachers were open and responsive to feedback, and continued to tweak the new modality regularly. We are looking forward to many more years at Friends!... Read 92 reviews

Sophomore: I have many opportunities at Portledge, which is something I love about the school. I love our campus because it is very college-like and due to this, the students have a lot of responsibilities, some examples would be having everything we need before walking across campus and scheduling meetings with teachers. Portledge has many pros, but just like any institution, there are also cons. Being an black student at Portledge, a prominently white school, I feel that most of the students are blind to what the (very few) minorities at the school face. I wouldn't say that we face racism, but we have to deal with not being able to say certain things or be our full selves because most of the students there do not understand. I feel that Portledge's curriculum (and other private schools) could be improved by including more modern events that impact some of the students that attend the school. Sophomore: I am a current sophomore at Roslyn High School. So far, feel very prepared for college thus far and I can't even imagine what could come next! I love all the opportunities that this school has given me whether it comes to sports, clubs, or even classes. I have had the opportunity to take various levels of courses, which has been great in challenging me. The teachers are always there to help, with office hours, extra help, email, and even after class. They have stayed lenient and understanding during the Covid-19 pandemic, which I am extremely grateful for. Although we have great opportunities the there is a lack of POC and culture from those communities, however, there is no divide between any of the communities, anyone can be friends with anyone. Senior: Paul D. Schreiber High school has been my home for the past 4 years and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Ever since freshman year the staff at Schreiber has set me on a path for success and allowed me to explore my interests as a young adult. The programs that they offer are outstanding whether it’s our inclusive and growing Drama Club to our award winning and county competing sports teams. My teachers have been understanding and supportive throughout all my years and always offer after-class extra help no matter the circumstances. Our school has tons of school spirit too! Every semester we have our own spirit week, showing off our school pride with fun costumes with themes for everyday day of the week. Our school holds us to high standards when it come to our Academics, but I feel as though that pressure helped plenty of us to truly strive for excellence as we think about and apply to our top colleges.... Parent: We could not be more thrilled with our choice to send our daughter to school at Luhi! The small class sizes, engaged staff and nurturing environment have really allowed our daughter to flourish. Her teachers have really gotten to know her, which has made her feel very comfortable. Junior: North Shore Hebrew Academy has made my high school experience one that I will never forget. There is such great diversity, with students coming from several different communities, and yet there is such a strong sense of unity among us. When I first began high school, I was nervous that it would be difficult both socially and academically, but I was relieved to find myself in a warm and welcoming environment. North Shore offers endless clubs and ways to be a part of this school and I am so glad I was able to involve myself in a series of extracurricular activities, each pertaining to my interests. Parent: I have 3 children at SSLI. My children have all attended since Kindergarten. One is in elementary school, one is in middle school, and, one is in high school. I love the school. The class sizes are small and the teachers truly care about the students' well-being: academically; socially; and, emotionally. The teachers are all approachable. If a student needs extra help in a subject, it is provided. Also, the teachers regularly communicate with the parents. In addition to an excellent secular academic program and Jewish Studies program, the students are taught personal responsibility, accountability, compassion, and kindness. They are taught how to become leaders and how to individually take steps to make the world a better place. This is one of the special things that sets SSLI apart from other schools. Senior: Chaminade High School is a Catholic school in Mineola, New York. It is a very prestigious school that offers many activities and athletics to add on to the experience. I feel it is one of the top schools in the country as it has a educational building, a unique science building, a three floor gym, and an amazing athletic center. Senior: I love the school so much but it’s a very lecture type class most time. They teach you to memorize lots of information and be able to take trimesters and comprehensive exams on it. It’s a very college preparation school but it gets you ready for the real world so it is a great overall experience. I have met some of the best people throughout the involvement of clubs and activities I did in this school. Blue and Gold has been my favorite program throughout the entire school. If you’ve never done something on a dance level to be able to join the dance team, then this is perfect for you. It’s a way for you to get involved, meet friends, and learn choreography after school and perform in a big show at Hofstra that is such an incredible experience!
