Parent: I have 2 children at Morgan Park Academy in the Early Childhood program and we love it! My kids are engaged and challenged academically and are taught about kindness in a world that seems to have forgotten about it. I love that my children could sing and count in French, Spanish, and Mandarin from the age of 3. The teachers truly care about the students and work hard to make it a great learning environment. Senior: Carl Sandburg High School has been a great experience for my high school years. Academically, many departments at the school stand out. Specifically, the math and social studies departments are incredibly well-taught, and are generally great. However, the science and English departments are lacking in some aspects- the science department could do with more meaningful teaching and less busywork, while the English department could do with more organization. The athletics at the school are hit or miss. In sports like tennis, cross country, and soccer, we are very above average. In sports like football, basketball, and baseball, we are rather meager. Niche User: Quick disclaimer! I am not an alum, teacher, or resident. I was looking at the page to research the school when I noticed that the boundaries were wrong. In 2016, Lincoln-Way North closed and East absorbed the attendance area of that school. Essentially East took everything between it's boundary and Harlem avenue and everything south of 183rd street. This made it so East had a significantly higher population than the other two LW 210 schools. (2700 compared to 1800 and 2000 in the other two schools). Other than that everything I have ever heard about East has been great! Great school, statistically the best in LW 210, great athletics, and according to students who I knew growing up a great school culture. The only problem is that it is overcrowded because it's essentially two high schools put into one building. Lockport Township High School and Carl Sandburg High School both have the same problems. Senior: Couldn't ask for a better high school experience. Every single teacher I had was extremely patient, enthusiastic, and overall just willing to work with the class. I know I can't speak for everyone, but this was at least my experience. Faith life is also very good, especially having the experience to go on Kairos and to school masses. The introduction to community period really helped me to stay a little more on top of my work, definitely helping with stress levels. Honestly, campus is extremely easy to navigate after a few days and although it isn't top tier facilities, everything gets the job done. I've been able to notice subtle improvements across the whole school throughout the time I've been there, so I know there are always going to be small improvements here and there to keep everything rolling smooth.... Senior: Victor J Andrew High School is genuinely a great high school to go to. The staff is super helpful and welcoming. The teachers know what they are doing, and there are many chances to get help if you struggle in a particular area. Andrew high school focuses on academic excellence and involvement in school clubs and activities. They are always willing to add more clubs and do fun events for the student body. Not only do they focus on the now, but they also help prepare you for the future. Andrew has a College and Career Center where you are able to get help if you need it for college applications, finding scholarships, FAFSA, and overall getting ready for college. All in all, Andrew is an awesome high school to be a part of. Junior: Amos Alonzo Stagg High School is a great school overall. I appreciate it's large size of around 3,000 students because within its walls, I have the opportunity to meet and befriend people from all different types of backgrounds and demographics. I've been able to have the classic high School experience that involves attending sports games, dances, and everything else in high school that is often overlooked and taken for granted. I will say that when myself and others were forced to take Advanced Placement exams in a rather uncomfortable gym where we were often distracted by students outside, I found it disappointing that they couldn't find a better place where we could focus. Additionally, while staff and teachers are exceptional overall, college readiness resources are lacking severely and it becomes a source of great anxiety for students including myself. Junior: Overall, St. Laurence has been the best choice I have ever made. The teachers and faculty are so welcoming and friendly. Parent: Providence Catholic High School has excellent academics; their students significantly exceed the state averages in all of the standardized test scores. Their student to teacher ratio is 14:1, so every child receives an abundance of guidance and care. But it is the wonderful, loving atmosphere of this school that makes it truly amazing! While I was there I need a little bit of extra help, which I received efficiently and swiftly at this school, and can only offer the teachers at this school praise for. Senior: Overall, Century was a great middle school. The building is newer and has modern technology updates. Every room has a smart board with a projector and students receive Macbook Airs. Alum: I thought that this was a good school that served my needs well. Although there were some rough patches and teachers who could have been better at times, I would still say that this school is good. I went here from 2014 to 2017. This school is at the weaker end of the district, as is the other middle school. Both of the middle schools are actually very similar. In the end this is a good school that will get the job done....
