Parent: An excellent school that fosters learning in a myriad of ways. The focus on developing the students as whole people, and learning based on appropriate developmental age. The school has a focus on not just academics but social, environmental, and global and even spiritual focuses as well. They truly try to foster a love of learning and present material in learning blocks that rotate throughout the year. This school is truly a blessing in every way. The community is close and with lots of involvement. The farm, riverfront location, caring and attentive teachers, and forward thinking with yet an old school kind of approach, all amazing! I love the home like setting of the classrooms. Learning blocks include cooking, farming, music, two languages (German and Spanish) all starting in first grade! Junior: At my three year education span at Bella Vista High School, there were many highs and many lows. I started my first year at BV, being just thirteen years old, completely online, and it remained that way for the entirely of the year, until we got moved to a hybrid (half online, half in-person) schedule. This decision was made by the district despite both parent and teachers discretion. Although this year was very challenging, mentally, I persevered, like many other students. The teachers were also extremely supportive and, in general, are very caring about their students. Senior: My school has a wide offer of extracurricular opportunities thanks to the money we are given to spend each semester. In doing so, each student has the ability to explore any field of study or project- something I find incredibly useful in terms of education. No other school that I have attended has given this type of offer to its students. The teachers at Visions are very kind, and work to ensure that each of their students' voices are heard. The only complaints I have are the following: first off, the high school history and government curriculum doesn't seem to be very inclusive of various types of ethnicity's and races. Another student and I are currently working on a project to introduce more inclusive books to the curriculum. My other complaint regards a chemistry teacher that works at the school, whom of which seems to not treat his students very fairly. Junior: El Camino fundamental high school is a great school, with multiple opportunities and programs for all types of students to succeed in. these programs in opportunities not only make school something to look forward to but it will also benefit their future out of high school. Although El Camino high school is not the most diverse school, the school is very welcoming to all ethnicities and races. I believe something El Camino high school should work on is making their sports teams more diverse. There has been many complaints about this and it is now a case within San Juan unified school district. The staff and teachers here know how to help students who are “Difficult “ succeed and do not deem to them automatic punishment. This school does not tolerate any forms of bullying, racism, harassment, etc. overall this is a good school, and will help any student succeed, not just in school but, in the student’s future.... Parent: I have three children attending CCS: 1st, 3rd and 10th grades. My 10th grader began at the school in 5th grade. Our experience through middle, elementary and high school has been outstanding. My 9th grader has had the opportunity to participate in student government, take an AP class (and passed the AP exam to earn college credit!), plays 3 sports and enjoys a campus climate that is welcoming and supportive. He also participated in a Law Academy program, where he was able to visit the local state and federal courts, learn from attorneys and judges, and learn how to read legal cases. It was an incredible opportunity for a high school student. Our kids have all enjoyed the support of deeply committed teachers, who show a sincere interest in their success and growth academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally. Senior: Cristo Rey is a catholic private school located in Sacramento, California. My overall experience there has been great. Since it is a small school each student has chance to be herd and each teacher has a chance to reach out. Cristo Rey strives to create a safe tight knit community where everyone is welcome. Most of the teachers have succeeded in creating a connection with student and making their classes engaging. Most everybody knows everyone. Help whether academic or otherwise is always available. Cristo Rey offers a work study program. In it I, and students in general, have and will learn different work skills a work forces. The work study program is set up in a way that will help us grow and learn about the real world. Parent: Can you imagine a school where all of the staff know your child and a private school version of this curriculum would normally run you about 10k a year or more? I have had three children attend this Waldorf-methods charter school. When it came time for them to transition into high school, they seemed to be on par with their peers. Definitely do your research before choosing Waldorf for your family. It isn't everyone's cup of tea, but that doesn't reflect on the school. My children have didn't always keep the same teachers every year, but there is a consistent philosophy and methodology behind this school. There aren't a lot of 20 year old charter schools out there.
