Senior: OSSM is a place that I am proud to tell people that I attend, but the stress of being there makes it hard to appreciate in the moment. Just like any school, there are things that I wish were different, but they are severely amplified because we live with them every day. Even so, the stress and difficulties are what bring everyone together and make a strong supportive community of intelligent individuals. There have been many moments where I consider giving up, dropping out, and going back to my home high school. Whether it is for pride or for completion, most of us stay and finish. Alum: A very respectable school. Kids are not always super inviting. Great teachers. Kids will get a good education, but the workload can be excessive. AP classes are good but hard and I wouldn’t overload yourself or your kid! Coaches are a little excessive in their sport workload too. Parent: Robin Hill is a gem found in Norman. The staff goes above and beyond to meet students where they are and challenge them to exceed in all areas. Junior: Mount St. Mary Catholic High School is a great place to find a home inside of a school. All of the students are very friendly and the smaller classes leave room for collaboration and individual teaching. The school does have a uniform, which can be beneficial for some students. They are also stricter on things such as phones and personal expression. Students cannot dye their hair, have piercings or tattoos, and have to follow strict dress code when we have out-of-uniform days. Junior: My experience at Norman North has been the most positive and impactful past three year. The staff is so intentional with each and every student. The admin constantly go out of their way to make sure their students are well off no matter the circumstance or area of struggle they may have in life. I have had the privilege of being apart of the student government here at NN and its been the biggest blessing. My role is one where I work closely with the faculty and staff. Senior: This school has an amazing community and family environment within the people that attend. The staff and students are all very nice and make everything more comfortable and easy to attend the school. All the clubs and art opportunities bring out the creativity in all of the students and just creates a more colorful and fun environment. Alum: I went to Longfellow for three years and it is where I met the majority of my friends I have today. There were a few teachers whom I had a very great experience with and a lot of different things learned such as how to make a simple chicken noodle soup to learning more complex math and literature. The first the teacher I really had a connection with was Ms. Thompson, and she worked in the office. I met her the first day of the Drum Club. She was very welcoming and those three years with her by my side made everything seem better. Middle School was definitely my turning point from easy schooling to hard. I’m very active in 4-H and my sheep project that it was very hard to balance both school and my out of school activities. Although it was tough, I always had my band teacher and my Drum Club teacher to guide me in the right direction. I do not know of anything that could of had made my experience better.... Parent: Teachers are so loving! Curriculum is challenging. I have three kids at this school and (at one time) had theee jobs to help pay tuition…but it is worth every penny. Senior: For me personally, high school was a simple time. High school flew by and part of that is because I got involved in band and guard. These programs not only helped teach me how fortunate I am, but also taught me responsibility, loyalty, and gave me friends that are more like family. Southmoore always makes sure that they have the safest possible environment, and they try to make every student feel comfortable. There were a few bumps here and there, as there are with every school, but not big enough ones to say the school was bad.
