Parent: Veritas has been such a good fit for our family. Coming from a homeschooled background, we were concerned how our child would do there all day. My child looks forward to being at school everyday and especially in his classroom with his teacher. Our son feels totally safe there and had no separation anxiety. Every morning my child excitedly ran to greet the administrators at the door. He loved that he could start his day by racing them to be the first to say hello. He also loves going to memory period. He has grown so much this year. His teacher is bright, loving, fun and very patient. She takes them outside several times a day, gives them snack time and miraculously gets them to nap. It is amazing how much better his reading and social grace has gotten too. They have an excellent classical curriculum delivered in love. Parent: I have been a part of the Cape Henry community for over 37 years! Starting as a student in the 3rd grade, alumni and now parent! I will be honest we did visit other area schools when we were deciding where to send our first born...and after doing our due diligence decided Cape was still the best fit for our family! He has since graduated and just finished his first year at The University of Virginia with flying colors! We continue to be parents with three younger students still enrolled and are beyond pleased with the academic curriculum! But for us, developing a love of learning and having happy well rounded children is the most important thing! With this Cape Henry delivers! My children are encouraged to get involved in all areas of the community...sports, forensics, theatre, volunteering etc! Senior: Norfolk Collegiate has been an academically rigorous school throughout my entire high school career and I feel like I will be prepared for college especially well, just because I went to Norfolk Collegiate. I have made numerous connections at the school from friends to teachers to coaches as the opportunities we are provided with at school are numerous. The only complaint that I have is that it is hard to get a traditional high school experience at Norfolk Collegiate without a football team and the student body is considerably lacking in school spirit. Parent: We are pleased academically which is the main reason our child continously attending the Catholic High School - Virginia Beach. For this reason I would recommend this school. The Girls Varsity Basketball program is not that great. Their main focus is typically on specific player(s) to grow. If your child was not getting playing time in public school bring them here & if you are a type of parent who has time to be in coaches' face all the time, then your child will be awarded a "consolation" playing time. It makes a perfect place for your child and your family. But if sports TRULY matters to your child while attending high school then you may want to consider exploring different school where she can grow, develop & be successful! Because she won't get it from here. Currenty their Boys Varsity Basketball program is excellent- from players' development to training to coaching! Junior: Stonebridge is a great school that focuses on equipping the next generation with a Biblical worldview to restore the American nation. The academics are rigorous and very in-depth. AP courses and honors classes are offered. The staff and students are very genuine and will go the extra mile to help out. The whole community is very welcoming, encouraging, and want to help others grow in their faith, academics, and skills. There are so many ways to get involved as a student or parent by joining clubs, sports, drama, or prayer groups. They offer a wide variety of sports from golf to volleyball. Also, throughout the year, they include many “fun days” such as Spiritual Emphasis Week, Retreat, movie nights, etc. Overall, a fantastic school that strives to prepare young people with a strong Biblical foundation and make lasting relationships.... Senior: Maury High School is truly a great high school. Although the building is slowly collapsing around the students and teachers, the academics they provide are great! I’ve had a number of incredible teachers who have gotten me ready for college course work and taught me valuable skills. Middle School Student: W.H. Taylor school has changed my life. I went to that school for 1,2,3 grade and all these years I created amazing memories. All the teachers and staff there gave me so many memories that will forever be in my heart. I'm now in 7th grade , and I have made it this far because I had such a amazing school like W.H. Taylor teach me. I honestly wish I could go back to that school because it was such a wonderful place that felt like home. Senior: OakTree is great for small class sizes and hands-on learning. Teachers care about their students and the kids and teens there are welcoming (albeit a little crazy cause most of them have been together for years, as the school is K4-12). The faculty is very accommodating, especially for disabled people (there are a lot of injuries that result in crutch users). They have soccer and swim teams, and they are branching out to include Volleyball and basketball. It is a very good place for a kid to grow up, even better if you are looking for a Christian environment. Senior: My experience at Granby High was wonderful. Involved in two unique music groups, I was enabled to learn and have fun playing the violin with other talented individuals. However, unless you're involved in one of our fantastic, critically acclaimed music programs or interested in applying for the IB program we offer, I do not recommend attending. The number of AP classes we offer continue to diminish, the overall type of people that attend are rude and distasteful, and teachers and administration do not care for the students' mental and emotional well-being. There are many issues with the school, but a problem that should be fixed is the responsibility placed on students; it is overbearing. While it is understandable that we are to be treated like adults ready to enter the world of work or further education, the students would be be both kinder and happier if the teachers were able to acknowledge our inevitable struggles and help us work through it... The teachers and staff members surely create an environment that helps the student understand the value of community and feel adequately supported to invest into their studies. The counselors do exceptional jobs to connect the students to resources for keeping up their grades, ensuring mental health and preparing for college.
