Senior: Without a doubt, the community and academics at Emma Willard are incredible. From day one everyone has been warm and welcoming, and everyone here really cares about one another. The teachers are always there to help with classwork/homework or just to have a chat, and the schedule is set up so there's built in time to hang out with friends and still get work done. The curriculum itself is challenging, but to a level that students will feel comfortable with and can keep up with, and as I said the faculty are always there to help. I do think the school has a lot of room to improve in it's mental health/counseling services, but the school is attempting, I think, to be responsive to it's students, it's just taking a long time. However, despite the slowness it does seem to be progressing in its DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) work, and has committed to continue working on it for the foreseeable future, which is super great!... Works Here: I work at The Darrow School and my experience has been amazing. The curriculum is top-notch, with faculty and staff that are committed to the students and each other. The school culture is warm, respectful and embracing of everyone. Students are engaged, encouraged and supported in all facets of boarding school life for a well-rounded experience that promotes healthy socio-emotional, academic and physical development. Darrow has amazing facilities and program offerings for a small, independent boarding school. From our top-notch performing arts center for music, theater and media engineering, to the he Kurtz Innovation Center, where students explore new technologies, to The Living Machine™, the country's first ecological wastewater treatment center located in a high school, to name a few. Senior: Columbia High School, in East Greenbush New York, offers a safe and encouraging place to learn and prepare for college. Teachers have helped me find what I'm passionate about and helped me learn to prepare for my future. With my passion for coding, the guidance office helped me sign up to take coding and programming courses that I am thrilled to have taken. The teachers have helped me in getting ready and prepared for college by giving us assignments based on what we may see in the future with college preparation courses. The culture within Columbia is also very good with students being able to talk and trust our teachers. They have put other students and me first to help me understand the courses that I'm learning. Parent: As a parent, choosing LCS was one of the best decisions we ever made with our two kids. They loved their time at LCS with our only regret not starting them there since kindergarten or Pre-K. There are so many positives that I will run out of space in this review. It is a school where the teachers and administration truly care about the students and their families. The academics are strong with an emphasis on challenging the students to think analytically and to truly learn a subject. The students have the opportunity to take college credit classes which has allowed both of our kids to start college academically as sophomores which is a big financial incentive! The Christian worldview teaching matches with our worldview which was a must for any private school for our family. The opportunity to be part of extracurricular activities like sports, clubs, music and drama all contribute to a well rounded student. Senior: Averill Park w great, however the music and art departments deserve more funding! I had many great experiences with the friends I made and the faculty that taught me. The students involved in the music and performing arts departments are some of my greatest friends and they are a wonderful representation of how wonderful the student body is. Senior: When it comes to providing a memorable and accommodating high school experience, the teachers at Ichabod Crane High School go above and beyond. The relatively small class sizes allow students and teachers to connect on a deeper level, which leads to a more fulfilling educational experience overall. Teachers and staff are always ready and willing to help out a student in need; you'll often see them during after school hours working with students on topics they are struggling with, or just helping them get some extra work done. Despite being situated in a rural town with little diversity and having a lack of funding for less popular activities, like some women's sports teams, the school provides an all-around positive experience for students of all backgrounds. Parent: The Robert C Parker school has exceeded my expectations in nearly every way! Our daughter has blossomed there, and we credit the Parker teaching method, teachers and culture for helping to bring the best out in her! I admit that I was skeptical of the Montessori system, and private schools in general. We visited several Montessori schools before choosing Parker, and the decision wasn't easy.
