Poly is academically rigorous and sets high expectations for its students while providing the scholastic and emotional support needed to ensure every student has an opportunity to succeed. Poly also does an admirable job incorporating character building into their curriculum. Compassion, service, self awareness, diversity, inclusion, tolerance and integrity are all modeled and reinforced throughout the campus at every grade level. Parent: My daughter and son attended, both graduated with excellent college and conservatory preparation. Daughter is a junior in the acting program at Fordham. Son will attend the Manhattan School of Music Musical Theater Program. Both received excellent training in their conservatories but what stands out was the opportunity to learn from and grow with their talented peers. The school community accepted and cultivated their diversity, and talents. The schools’ communication with parents is frequent and transparent. School safety is excellent as it is a closed campus with security. Advanced, AP and college courses are available. Many performance opportunities on and off campus. Did not have any bad experiences here. Perhaps the only thing was the pickup and drop off procedures. Maybe have a physical education component. Just a great experience for both of my kids. Senior: I came from a public school and transferred into St. John Bosco during the sophomore year. The school atmosphere was a breathe of fresh air. Teachers and staff have a true sense of care for the students that I didn't find at my previous school. I wasn't a very religious child, but St. John Bosco didn't treat me worse because of this fact. This is a institution for not only religious children, but children who want to better themselves outside of the classroom. Amazing sports teams and clubs. Sophomore: I'm a student taking the MBacc course at Elite Open School. MBacc course gives us a completely different opportunity of learning from the original high school course. MBacc class goes on online and follows the form of the class called the forum that is made by Minerva University. In the forum, we meet teachers and students living in different countries online. The advantage that I found in this course is that we are doing 'real' learning, not just studying for exams or university. By doing student-led classes and lots of presentations, we learn what we have to learn in the real world and relate every topic to each other. Whenever I take the class, I feel like I'm really learning something very useful and meaningful. Even though there are some parts where we have many work-loads for every class, a small number of students in class, and different time-line with teachers and other students, these factors also make us more productive and have real close relationships with the class!... Middle School Student: I attended Pilgrim School from 7-8th grade. I overall loved the experience the school provided for me. The faculty and administration were so helpful to me as a new student. By my first week at the school they all knew me which I didn’t have at any of the other schools I attended. I would definitely recommend this school for elementary and junior- high school. If you are looking for a school with a very welcoming community for your children, I would definitely recommend this one. Pilgrim School definitely was a great introduction to Los Angeles County, and Southern California for me coming from the East Coast. As a student with learning disabilities, the school did a great job helping me stay on track, and working with my schedule. I have many friends who enjoy/enjoyed their high school experience here, I personally needed to be with more kids. He went to the elementary Fairfax campus, a smaller campus with spacious classrooms, and he has loved the bigger Selma campus too. The leadership works hard to create an accessible and friendly atmosphere for the students and parents so there is a strong sense of community. The admin is collaborative and value parent input. The teachers are nurturing and attentive and know when to give students more help or more of a challenge. There are many enrichment classes (art, music, gardening, sports teams, band), a social-emotional curriculum and clubs.
