Senior: I’m a current senior at the Alabama School of Math and Science, and I love it here! I love the higher-level STEM classes ASMS offers, such as Quantum and Relativity, Multivariable Calculus, Organic Chemistry, etc. Not many other schools offer these advanced classes, and it’s a great way to delve deeper into a subject you are interested in. ASMS has many other amazing opportunities like their Research Fellows Program. You get to work with a teacher on any topic you want to make a contribution to. It could be “Computational Studies of Mammoth Nuclear Genomes” or the “Evolutionary Prediction of South America’s Plant Diversity.” ASMS also has promotes leadership in our community through their Jo Bonner Leadership Academy. Juniors and Seniors learn how to develop their leadership skills and positively impact the community. Senior: St Paul’s Episcopal School is a Christian institute I have attended my entire school career. We stand on the foundation of honesty integrity and respect. St Paul’s believes I teaching the individual child which has been most beneficial to myself and my classmates. There has always been opportunities to participate in many clubs ranging from academics, sports, arts and student government. Senior: I enjoy being at Bayside Academy. It is a small private school so it makes everyone feel like family. I have been attending Bayside Academy since Pre-K and both of my older brothers attended Bayside. Throughout the years I have been in and out of the private schooling system. In Kindergarten my father was unemployed so we lived in Foley, AL for a year. I attended a Catholic school called St. Benedict. In 8th grade, I was very serious about my ballet career and did online, virtual school through our public school system. I did this program 8th and 9th grade and found myself longing to be back in Bayside. I missed my friends, the environment, the structure of the school, and being taught by teachers, rather than teaching myself. Just like any school, Bayside has issues with its administration but they are in the process of repairment. The math department needs a lot of work as well. Senior: I have enjoyed McGill-Toolen because of the passion of the staff and the strong sense of community. The teachers and administrators are always making an effort to enhance the experience of the students. They work hard to provide a meaningful academic experience while also focusing on providing exciting opportunities outside of academics. The McGill-Toolen experience is most unique because students are immersed in their Catholic faith. Many of the teachers are shining examples of the faith and thus increase the value of our Catholic education. The McGill-Toolen community is one that is unified by faith and traditions. Everyone at McGill is familiar with the chaos and enjoyment that stems from our high energy pep rallies. Students are also unified every month when we come together to celebrate mass. Works Here: I joined the St. Lukes teaching staff last year. To say that I was shocked is an understatement, but I was shocked in a great way! I was welcomed with opened arms by the faculty, students, and parents at St. Lukes. I immediately knew that I had stumbled upon something fantastic! I am still astonished at how professional the students are. By that, I mean that they are polished, dedicated learners who take on personal responsibility for their own learning. They are committed to growing themselves academically, but they are also committed to their extracurricular activities and service organizations. The students body is well-balanced. Each student is encouraged to participate in a variety of activities, including sports, theater, art, music, and leadership organizations. Senior: Cottage Hill has a family atmosphere all around from the teachers to the office staff. The campus is simple to navigate and filled with caring people. Throughout the day there is someone asking you how you are doing. Students get so excited to see a previous teacher or staff member during lunch waves. The smaller school population allows for more student involvement and allows for personal time with teachers. The student body is truly kind to one another and love communicating. The teachers love answering questions and concerns and it fuels them. They do not mind sitting down to discuss anything with their students. Many students seek advice from multiple teachers throughout the school day and the teachers make time for them. It is amazing to see strong relationships blossom over time. Since the staff is well respected and enjoyed, increasing the workload and work type would benefit the students and help prepare them for college. Alum: I went all the way through Lighthouse Baptist Academy from K-5 to 12th grade, I was with them when they moved buildings and remodeled, and I have seen the good and the bad. Overall, it is a great school! The teachers love the students, the administrators want the best for the kids, and your always reminded of God’s love and guidance. When I graduated in 2019, they were already planning on expanding and adding new things. That is the one issue that I would have to address, there are not lots of consistency with new projects or extra curricular activities. You may have an art class for a year, but they do enjoy sports a bit more than the arts. But as I said they are expanding. When I left, the band was planning to do more concerts and a band trip! Middle School Student: They make sure each student feels safe here. They can go to anyone when they have a problem and expect it to be solved. They keep kids motivated by rewarding them with in school dances, candy, anything to make sure that they stay motivated. I am one of the students who is in ambassadors club, student council, and made NJHS. If a student is disrespectful to a teach they are removed and placed in retract. The next day, over the live announcements, he will talk about not disrespecting teachers and other class mates. I am also in choir and our choir has had several students make all state choir and honor choir. I made honor choir and loved it.
