Senior: Mass Academy is an amazing school! The collaborative environment and assignments that are geared toward challenge and real-world applications make being a student here an inspiring and enjoyable experience. The academics are top-notch and challenging, and everyone will help each other. With the small size of ~ 50 students per grade, you get to know each of the faculty members and your classmates personally. The faculty offer a lot of support with independent projects and the college application process. Senior year at WPI prepares you well for college. Although you are always busy as a junior, most of the projects are truly enjoyable because you get to work in a group, including when designing an app and assistive technology device. There are also great classes in the humanities and language, so students gain skills in math and science as well as writing, English, history, and Spanish/French. Parent: I want to add my support as the parent of two recent Bancroft graduates. As much as it was clear while my kids were still there that Bancroft was a great school (both in terms of academic strength and in terms of inspiring, caring teachers), I didn't really understand how great it was until they started college. Both of them went on to highly selective colleges (one of them with a $100K merit scholarship), and when they got to college, they just excelled. Something about the Bancroft approach to inquiry and curiosity, writing, public speaking, and self-advocacy was the perfect alchemy for college success. They were both much better prepared than their college classmates, and both ended up being a go-to resource for college friends who weren't as strong at thinking independently, writing, and participating in a college community. Parent: Whitinsville Christian School is not just a school, it's a family. One of my girls has attended K-2 and the other just completed K. They feel loved by all the staff every day they walk in the building, which even includes staff at the front desk and teachers they haven't even had yet! As a parent, I feel like the staff care about me as well. Everyone is always so welcoming. We've built relationships and my children are excited to go back to school in August. They miss their friends and teachers. The other night, my youngest prayed that she could hug her teacher again. I contacted her teacher and she met up with us just so she could get that hug! WCS is not just a school, it's an extension of your family. The academic aspect of the school has put both my girls beyond many of their peers who attend other schools. Sophomore: I'm currently attending and honestly, it's a great school. Not entirely diverse, but there is a lot of diversity. The education is good, helps students who need help and accommodates students that are ahead of their grade level. There are plenty of clubs, multiple instrumental, choral, sports, creative, etc. Guidance and nurse are both amazing, they are willing to work with each student to help them get through the day well. The new staff this year are absolutely amazing- a huge step-up from last year. They genuinely care. The freedom that students get: eating outside for lunch, free periods, no uniform, is a perfect level, not too much, but enough to be comfortable. Also, the way they've handled COVID-19 is incredible. Webcams, headsets, in classrooms, optional online learning, masks, 6 feet apart signs, hand sanitizer, etc, they've done everything we could ask for. Senior: Blackstone Valley Tech offered me a fresh start with a phenomenal curriculum and teachers who made classes enjoyable. Attending a vocational school that is able to combine both experience and education has become something I am deeply grateful for. It's always a pleasure to listening to faculty and teachers as they are lively and teach to the fullest extent of their ability. I have been in situations where I felt as if I was falling behind in challenging courses and found myself receiving guidance from every teacher. Something I would like to see changed would be for the faculty to integrate ethnic cultures and backgrounds into the school environment. Junior: I am a Junior at Worcester Tech and so far, I love it here! It's a very unique experience that other high schools don't offer. If you choose the right shop, you will have a great time here because you are focusing on something you are passionate about for half the school year! some shops might even get you certified so you can get a good job right out of high school. For example, if you choose Allied health, you might graduate with a CNA, and if you choose Cosmetology, you might graduate as a licensed cosmetologist. The teachers are great and understanding and there are many clubs and after-school programs. If you are struggling academically, there are so many opportunities for extra help like morning homework help, after-school extra help, and after-school homework club. Senior: I grew up going to Abby Kelley since I was in kindergarten. The school's district is amazing, caring and well thought through. The school is diverse, starting young to introduce each other to other classmates. The staff are amazing at their jobs, helping students who are struggling, even staying after past school hours to help more. I love Abby Kelley, it is the best school in Worcester to feel safe and secured and that it is academically great. Alum: As a vocational school, Bay Path offers the best trade curriculums in the area. They may lack in the sports department, with exclusive participation in lesser divisions than the surrounding high schools, but they make up for it in their dedication to preparing students for work in their own vocation. I was enrolled in the electrical shop, and though I’m taking the time to go to college, I gained a lot of experience and hours that I can later put towards my journeyman’s license. Many students graduate with some type of relevant certification in their trade, that they can immediately put to use through the co-op program. I also had great teachers every year, and had the opportunity to take several AP classes that I can use as credit for my college career. Parent: I have a very bright student that needed organizational skills. I could not have found a better school for my son. It took a few years and a few dedicated teachers, but my son now totally owns his own work. There are fewer and fewer lost papers and rarely a missed assignment. The middle school math and social studies teachers really truly try to push and get the best out of their students. These teachers are outstanding. There are a few teachers that just slide by and do the minimal amount of work. The only thing lacking is sports. The school has basketball and track and it puts everything it has into the basketball program. The PE teacher is great. Parents get too involved when their child doesn’t “make the right team”.
