Alum: While it had its ups and downs, it was truly an exceptional opportunity that I only appreciate more as time goes on. The teachers there are/were phenomenal as they truly go above and beyond to ensure the success of their students academically and, more importantly, personally. I went on to UChicago, a school that prides itself on its rigor and intellectualism, however, I found far more of both at Choate than I ever did in college. Learning, especially within classes that you may feel you aren’t interested in, truly starts with teachers that care and are excited to be there with you. Choate provides this learning within a close knit campus that will most likely be more diverse (culturally, intellectually) than any other experience you’ll have in your life. At least that’s the case with my own. It can be competitive, but as long as you pursue goals that are meaningful to you (not just the colleges you expect to apply to) it’s almost challenging not to have a fulfilling experience.... Parent: Cheshire Academy has been absolutely wonderful for our children and our family. Our children are two very different students with very different needs. The CA teachers, staff and administrators go out of their way to know and understand each student and help him/her achieve academic success. My eldest was recruited by several other prestigious boarding schools, but once we visited CA we knew it was the absolute perfect fit for us. CA not only has rigorous academic programs, excellent sports and music/arts programs, its student body is ethnically, academically and socially diverse which was a very important factor for our family. We were not at all interested in sending our children to a school that felt like country club with little diversity. My younger child had more challenges to overcome than his older sister. Senior: I transitioned from Wolcott High School to Xavier High School in my junior year. The first time I walked into Xavier, I felt the difference in the environment immediately. Everyone was invested in education, faith, service, and being involved in extracurricular activities. The academic pace was faster with a more challenging curriculum. I had spent two years with no science labs, mostly virtual learning, absent teachers, and a lack of consistent instruction due to COVID-19, so it was extremely difficult to adapt to the rigors of a private school. I had to balance good grades, working to make a better basketball team, and trying to make new friends. Being part of clubs and the basketball team helped me connect with many of the students and teachers. What started off as a hardship soon developed into an opportunity to excel in my education, better prepare for college, establish outstanding friendships, and made for an awesome academic experience these past two years.... Alum: What I liked about Emmanuel Christian Academy is that they had AP courses available to prepare you for college. I really don’t have a problem with anything at Emmanuel, but I will say that this school is only for those who want there children to have a solid Christian based education. Sophomore: Middletown High School has many opportunities for students. It provides many interesting and specific courses, along with an ag program. It's full of sports and has a great, student-based gym program. It lets students know about credit requirements and has a helpful career center. It's bathroom situation isn't great, as they restrict who enters--this means it takes a lot of class time just to use it. There used to be a lot of fights, even making the news. There's a shortage of teachers, meaning multiple courses just don't have anyone to teach them. It's very hard to access resources like guidance and the career center if you don't have a study hall. Junior: The teachers were incredible. They show how much they care about their students by going above and beyond for them. Each teacher had their own effective way of teaching their students, that gave them the chance to learn what they needed. They were also there for the students emotionally by giving them the support or advice they needed. The school offered interesting classes that exposed the students to things they may have never known they'd like, such as, musical theater, digital photography, robotics, etc. The diversity in the school is also amazing and eye-opening. Senior: CREC has helped me over the last 7 years I have been at their schools. No matter what happened, the teachers were always there for me and cared about my academic growth. Any time I had an issue with bullying, in a week the kids were talked to and parents were notified. The food was not that great, it tasted cheap but that's what most school lunches are like, unfortunately. For anyone looking to find an accepting school district, I highly recommend a CREC school....
