Calamus Wheatland High School
#144 Best Public High Schools in Iowa
- Calamus-Wheatland Community School District, IA
- Rating 3.81 out of 5 52 reviews
Alum: The best part about Calamus Wheatland High School are the faculty and instructors. They care about you and they want you to succeed. They do an excellent job of preparing you for post-secondary education by providing access and showing you online resources. Technology is also plays a major role in education at this school. Every student in 7-12 building has access to a school Macbook. This rids the use of scheduling conflicts of computer labs. Sports and extracurricular activities are also a good way to get connected with other students. Extracurricular activities include speech, band, theatre, and choir. Classroom sizes are small which allows teachers to give each student more attention and help. Overall, my experience here has been nothing but positive and I encourage any family moving into this area to enroll their student at the Calamus Wheatland High School.

North Cedar Junior/Senior High School
- North Cedar Community School District, IA
- Rating 3.45 out of 5 33 reviews
Senior: North Cedar is a small school, but it tries to do its best with what it has. All of the students here try to go out for everything, so all of the sports coaches and fine arts directors are in constant communication to make sure everyone can make it into each respective practice, which doesn't happen at every school. However, because it is such a small school, there is not a lot of opportunity for STEM related learning to happen. We mostly only have core classes here with very few STEM-related electives. The business electives, though, are amazing.
I have definitely loved going to a smaller school (my class only has 56 students) because I get to know literally every single person in my high school and connect with them.

Midland Middle/High School
- Midland Community School District, IA
- Rating 3.41 out of 5 22 reviews
Senior: My experience at Midland Middle/High School was decent. I think it could have been fun and engaging. There are positives to going to school here, including, one-on-one with teachers, after school places to work on homework, great teachers, etc. The teachers are there to help you and succeed throughout life. If you take Consumer Math, it will teach you skills that you can use in the real world. For example, it shows you how loans work or how to file taxes. There are also some Business classes for those looking at business as a career when older. Midland is a great school and is sometimes underappreciated.
