Parent: You do not need to be French or speak French to join the school!

FASNY has two streams: the French curriculum and the international curriculum (i.e. for English speakers) which leads to the IB diploma. I have a child in each.

First, the French curriculum (Bac) along with a NY high school degree is for French speakers. The French stream is rigorous, especially in math and sciences. Nothing prevents an English speaking family to integrate the French stream at a young age; but afterwards if there is no knowledge in French this is no longer a possibility. Though it is for students who might want to go back to France, the French Bac is well recognized by universities worldwide.

Second, the international stream is taught in English and eventually leads to a NY high school degree and the rigorous IB (International Baccalaureate). It can be integrated any year as long as the English requirement is met and many teachers teach in both streams. Some have PhDs (e.g. IB Economics).

Alum: Overall the experience at MHS is what you make of it. When I was a student I tried really hard and took the most advanced classes to ensure I was in decent shape to go off to college. I prepared myself well and used the resources available to me. It is important to seek out your own opportunities here and reach out for help/guidance when you need it. There are dozens of ways to get involved in formal activities at MHS (wether that's elective courses or clubs or sports) which make it easy to find something you like. The teachers are professional, relatable, knowledgable, and are supportive of their students. I am deeply grateful to the teachers I had at MHS, for they really changed my life and prepared me for the future.

Senior: Rye Neck High School is a tight knit community with great academics and a good community. Since the school is fairly small, most people are friends with each other and teachers are always free to help you out with any personal problems you are having in any classes. The school has a variety of clubs and activities and makes it easy to get involved with them or start new activities, and the administration is open to ideas. Overall, Rye Neck is a great place to spend your teenage years as you become close with many more friends and have access to top tier academics before college.

Alum: Like most yeshivas out there, the variety of teachers is mixed. One thing to appreciate though is that not all of them are Jewish which allows for a greater cultural exchange between the students and teachers. The Jewish life and school-sponsored activities are excellent and provide a unique high school experience.

Parent: We have a daughter that started the Avenues Online program this past fall and it has been a phenomenal experience. I think it could be difficult for many children but if your child is naturally curious and is inclined to push his/her limits, it is an amazing environment to learn. If your child enjoys the admissions process (which includes a mini-project), then this may be a good fit.

The teachers are probably some of the best in the country (and possibly globe), since this seems to be the highest priority for the school. They each challenge the children but are also there to support the kids along every part of the journey. AON has also invested in tremendous R&D to ensure that it has created a project-based learning curriculum designed for children to thrive. They have figured out a way to make seemingly complex concepts accessible for kids.

The amount that my daughter has learned in such a short time is surprising and I feel quite lucky that we enrolled her here this past year.
