Alum: GHV was overall a great school to grow up in. Having grown up in the community, I can say with certainty that the background of the faculty, staff, and students is what made this place special. Students were generally very well knit, teachers were there to support and encourage instead of disciplining or putting a student down. Coming from a community where everybody knows each other, in my mind, is why my peers and I are successful in school. I mean, it may be because everybody gossips, so parents would find out if anyone acted out; but it worked.

Senior: I moved to Forest City for my junior year of high school. I was extremely worried as I was leaving all of my old friends behind, and joining a new school district. However, after the first week of classes, I realized that the students here were so much nicer than those at my old school. There was no visual bullying, teachers cared about my education, and I was able to make friends much easier. The only problem I have had is the opportunity to play in sports. Joining a new school is difficult in terms of learning how they play their sport, but this was not the issue. I had a sense that the students who got to play more only got that opportunity because of their last name, and it was not based on their skill level.
