Junior: Greenhills is a diverse, tight knit community that has really helped me become more confident in my artistic abilities, writing, and performance overall. It's a really small school which makes it great for individualized learning and opportunities. This is only further enhanced by the array of diverse voices being heard. The literary classes in particular showcase some amazing books on diversity and inclusion. My main gripe with the school is its lack of diverse education resources- it isn't great at providing aid for neurodivergent kids. Some teachers also don't properly use the homework website and neglect updating or even showing grades for each academic term. Personally, the small student body has helped me grow to be a more confident individually but, it does get a bit boring and monotonous to just see the same people everyday. Senior: My overall experience as a senior at Northville High School: Northville High School has great teachers which many options for classes, sports, and clubs. There are even options to take intern, and co-op classes and also online classes. I am taking a broadcasting intern at the WHFR radio station and although I drive 45 min, it has been a great experience. The Northville high school building is nice with many facilities including a relatively new weight room. There are many opportunities and overall the atmosphere is pretty good. The people are friendly; it is a pretty close knit community and not too hard to make friends. The only thing that isn't that great is the lunch food. They mainly offer junk food or deeply fried vegetable and the healthy options (salads) are not very good. Parent: I have two sons that attend PSCA. While some consider the work "rigorous" my wife and I feel our boys are being pushed right to where they need to be. No more, that is neither feels "behind" and no less, that is, neither feels "bored". The teachers and students come from diverse backgrounds and are all very supportive. the parents are great too, except in the drop off/pick up line... But it beats 45 minutes on the bus.... Senior: Grades K-8, I went to public schools in South Lyon. I was not expecting to attend Detroit Catholic Central. However, I am very glad that I did attend Detroit Catholic Central. I have learned that it is okay to ask for help. Many of my teachers have taken valuable time out of their life to give me extra help. They have helped me grow in my faith throughout high school. They have also opened up many doors when it comes to college and making connections with people. There have been numerous times that I have already connected with Catholic Central grads in college and in the work world. The athletics have also been very impressive at Catholic Central. I have played in the State semifinals in the last two years in lacrosse. While I've attended Catholic Central, many state championships and even national championships have been won in numerous sports. Senior: Washtenaw Technical Middle College is an amazing school for diversity. I have noticed that the teachers actually care about their students and make sure that their student have the best professors. The staff loves to motivate and make sure students are passing classes. Whenever I was stuck in a class or felt unmotivated my base advisor was such a big help and helped me. WTMC just wants the best for their students and I love how they take their students mental health seriously. I really recommend this school for people! Senior: I love Mercy! I am currently a Senior in the graduating class of 2022. I can't imagine having made a difference choice 4 years ago. I have great friends, feel extremely supported by the staff and teachers, and enjoy al of the activities and clubs I am in. Mercy creates the schedules so that student's can take whatever classes they choose, and most clubs are student run and created. Students have a huge leadership role within the school, and the sense of community is strong. It is not hard to find your group of people. There are classes for any student, from AP science and math classes to Directing and Acting classes. Students find their place within the school easily. The theatre department is amazing and nearly completely student run. The academic support for students is amazing as well. Senior: My experience at South Lyon East high school has been remarkable. Throughout the years I've been in jazz band, marching band, link crew, student council, and National Honors Society. There have been many fun events and clubs I also could have been a part of. The staff is very supportive and we even have two service dogs to help with many students with anxiety. Middle School Student: Good school, has its ups and downs though, there's little to no diversity, teachers are pretty good, if you get lucky like me and get all the cool teachers its enjoyable, the food is meh, my old friend chase threw up from the lunches one time, the only good food there, in my opinion, is the Bosco sticks, the school is kinda just average, besides the fact one of my teachers broke a world record (most people baking simultaneously online) every once in a while something fun happens.... Parent: The teachers, assistant and administrators at LCS are second to none! They care about each and every student and go above and beyond to ensure each one has an opportunity to thrive academically. Each of my children are so grateful for the loving, Christian environment where they are able to hear about Jesus every day. Excellent student to teacher ratio. School has moved to Brighton across from Brighton High School and is now very centrally located. I love that, thanks to the help of LCS, my oldest will graduate this year with a semester of college completed - free of charge! Senior: A majority of the South Lyon school staff I have encountered have been invested in my individual success (personally and academically). The educators and student support staff frequently do more than what is required of their role, to assist students at risk or in need. There are several organizations/clubs that students can opt to join; the clubs and activities I participated in were supported by various school staff and coaches/mentors from within our community. Although certain activities tend to be highlighted a little more than others, overall the school community of South Lyon seems to celebrate any publicized wins or achievements (athletic and academic). The extracurriculars I was involved in regularly planned events that raised awareness and funds that gave back to the community.
