Freshman: I like the welcoming environment and sense of belonging from going to this school. Loomis’s emphasis on the Best Self and Common Good is present throughout the school‘s culture and social life, and hence the school is very open and accepting. The diversity at the school made me feel welcome and accepted, and Loomis’s programs to raise awareness for groups like the LGBTQ+ community were reaffirming and a nice action for National Coming Out Day. The school’s academic programs are beneficially challenging as well, with flexibility in advancing in courses such that students are able to take sufficiently challenging courses. The music, arts and after school activities all have an abundance of applicable resources. Parent: We chose WMA for its strong academic reputation noted for intelligent, caring faculty, a wonderful curriculum and diverse extracurricular activities but ended up getting far more! Our impression is that WMA somehow magically selects talented students from caring families creating an amazing student body full of smart but thoughtful human beings. This community quickly becomes a little family where the students support each other & feel cared for by faculty. WMA definitely has something for everyone. Not only was our son exposed to a vast array of Sports: Rugby, Water polo, Football and the Arts: Music/Theater but a myriad of other wonderful things. Most importantly though is the exceptional student body. It’s a nice balance between a “Mini United Nations feel” & Local Community Vibe blending perfectly students from this rural New England area and from across the globe. Parent: While sending my daughter to study abroad, I worried about her life and academics very much. However, the teachers and dorm parents in this school proved that my choice is correct! With the combined efforts, the school as a whole improved our daughters physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. Senior: Overall Longmeadow High School was a very immersive educational experience. I was very involved in the school throughout my sophomore to senior year and I truly believe that was the reason for my success and excitement throughout my academic and social life at LHS. I felt I had a student voice and was able to create some progressive changes! I love collaborating with students and faculty which created a deeper connection and trust with my classmates and administration. However, I would like to see a more diverse educational experience including sharing other cultures and historical figures not just the typical figures we all know and love. I have learned about more trailblazers through clubs and outside organizations that deserve to be shared and taught in school systems. Parent: WOW, is all I can say about HCSS West! As a parent, we all want the best for our children but lets face it, it may not be achieved in a public school setting. For my child, it definitely wasn't and was looking for a new environment where he wasn't labeled any more. I did my research which showed both good & bad reviews. We went for a tour and talked to people. Since he was almost failing his core classes, he was miserable, and he fought every time he had to get ready for school, I figured what was the worst thing that could happen with the change? I just knew it was stressful and a miserable way to start every day. Day one, he came home and said he loved it which brought tears to my eyes. Never had we heard anything like that from his mouth! Never had we seen excitement to go to school! Never had we seen him make honor roll! Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this to happen but I am so happy it did. Parent: If you are looking for a Challenging curriculum, dedicated and attentive teachers and staff, with some of the best Sport coaches in the area HCSS is the school for you. I have a son who graduated in 2020 and is now thriving in WNE mechanical engineering program and a current 8th grader in the honors program. Both of my boys want to go to school everyday, enjoy the challenging courses and play/ed three varsity sports. They have made great friends, gained mentors and are being prepared for college. In the very few times where we have had a curriculum or student behavior issue, it has been address quickly and to our satisfaction. I have found that when a student or parent brings issues to the teachers or administrators attention in a respectful manner with realistic expectations they meet or exceed what is necessary to address those issues in a timely manner. Senior: It's great for academics even if it's hard. The teachers are great because they are very invested in your education and genuinely care about you; they're willing to accommodate your needs and talk to you at any hour if you need something. The food is okay. They mainly serve pizza and chicken patties. My only complaint is that the students are very stuck up and cliquey so that its difficult to make friends. The sports are pretty good but they always get underfunded since hockey takes the main priority, which makes sense because it's the only D1 team. Still kinda sucks. The administration is bad. They don't communicate with other parts of the school and are very strict so their lack of management rubs off on your daily activities. Speaking of daily activities, it's pretty fun at Pope because they always have something going on and try to give you an easy day/day-off every couple of weeks with either a retreat or remote day due to a teacher's meeting. Parent: We were nervous about changing to PVCA, but everything we were nervous about has been addressed and we couldn’t be more happy with the school. We have 3 kids attending, the teachers have been amazingly responsive and love our kids just as much as we do! The academics are right on and as an educator myself, I am so happy with the learning taking place. My kids are safe, comfortable, happy and learning and growing in the Lord. Administration has been quick to respond and are forward thinking while upholding moral and ethical Christ centered values. My kids get more electives than they would in public schools in a culturally and linguistically diverse community! It’s such a warm welcoming community! Senior: Academic culture within the Metropolitan Learning Center is quite strong. It is recognizable that the school prides itself on offering its students with challenging yet rewarding education that forces us to push our minds to think beyond its believed capacity. MLC is an International Baccalaureate school, and is the only public school in Connecticut to host both the Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme. Senior: BACPS is the place to go if you want a one-on-one connection with your teachers. Allowing you to get a better grasp of any subject being discussed or even if you just want extra practice. Not only that it is also great if you like a smaller environment. Which is great. This school is a family. Everyone is in touch, respect is a huge thing, discipline is also another huge goal on our list. We follow a system of HOS's 5 of them.
