West Monona High School
Senior: During my highschool career I spent most of my days in a welcoming environment. Many teachers are easy to talk to about issues and are willing to go the extra mile to help in class.Over the last few years I have had mental health issues and my school has offered extra days to do homework, giving the opportunity to present projects privately, and allowing special places in the school to be a safe zone for me if I became overwhelmed. In graduation requirements every student must do service hours, that means we needed to go out of our way to give back to our community in need. Our counselor is in charge of helping and creating class schedules and she determines which classes to be placed in that she knows we will excel in and be given special opportunities to learn. The only thing we do not have much of is diversity in our school, but that is not the schools fault.Living in a small town in Iowa diversity isn't always too common, but students of color are given the same treatment and respect.
