Alum: Best: most of the students are really nice and there are lots of amazing teachers. Math and English teachers have always been especially good. I had tons of opportunities step into leadership roles. Yes, it is easier and therefore marginally less impressive to be in a leadership role at a school like JPII. However, instead of this being a weak opportunity, see it as a step to confidence growth and easy college points. This school definitely gives you an advantage in the college apps. Also, most teachers can write you good recommendation letters. Classes are fun and not too hard if you ACTUALLY do the homework. Worst: there is an unfortunate reputation among other schools, because the few people who make really bad choices are the few people to interact with public schools. Also, the administration has never been good at knowing when to step in and when to leave. There are lots of really bad stories that others could share. Middle School Student: Teachers are very good, very good music and performing arts programs. The theatre program is very high quality teaching, as are the music programs. The choir is phenomenal, and the orchestra and band have very good teachers. The core classes are well done, with very good highly capable programs. The Algebra teacher is very good. Overall, the school is very good. But the building is slightly cramped, with a poor hallway design that makes class to class traffic a little difficult. Senior: I actually really enjoy Timberline! The campus is gorgeous, there are tons of recourses available for very cool elective and art classes (Including one for Video Game Design, which is awesome!) Parent: When the boundaries changed a couple years ago, we were nervous. However, Puget Meadows has turned out to be a great, welcoming school for our kids. The teachers are excellent. In my daughter's first year here, her 3rd grade teacher was the first to recognize how creative and talented she is. He helped to build her confidance and be sure she was challenged. Parent: This new middle school is awesome! My son has more "needs" than the average student and they have been far more accomodating and understanding than any other public school he's attended in Pierce and Thurston Counties. The teachers are intelligent and interested. School morale is great and the kids are very friendly, considering it's middle school. Junior: River Ridge High School is a unique school that has a somewhat diverse range of classes, experiences, and people that one can experience throughout the four years of schooling. Knowing people that range from dropping out to being valedictorian, I've learned that it's the effort and environment that create a scholar. While the mandatory core classes and "easy" electives may not go into depth into subjects, most of my teachers carry great life lessons and increase rapport with students to make a safe and fun classroom. The more challenging classes (ex. AP) are even more rewarding to my interests, as teachers bring a rigorous curriculum that not only prepare students for a test, but moral considerations that can be applied to education decision making as an adult. In my experience as of 2023, the subjects I take vary in difficulty, but there is always support from my teachers- from help in self-studying ahead of the curriculum, to explaining difficult concepts before school.... Alum: Lacey Elementary is a very welcoming school. It really does a great job at hiring teachers who truly care about student success. Students know that they can go to any staff member there and feel heard and receive any kind of help that they may need. It really does have that "safe school" feeling right as you walk in. Something that I really admire about the school and the staff, is that they are really involved. The school principal is very much involved with the staff as well as the students. Parent: My daughter attended one of their open houses during the Spring last year. She fell in love with the school and their way of teaching. She shadowed a student during the day which solidified her want/need to be at this school. As parents we fell in love with the school as well. They offer so many different enrichment courses, activities and small class sizes. We thought that our daughter would do great there, but were worried about the money and thought that this is more for, "rich families". NOVA offers flexible payments with help for lower income families. Anyone can afford to go here! My daughter's interest in Math, Language Arts, Geography has far exceeded our expectations. She comes home excited to do her home work and is learning with a varaciousness that I haven't seen from her. She wakes up excited to go to school. Parent: We love the dedicated teachers, the supportive administration and the great education our kids get. They learn about Jesus, experience His presence in chapel, memorize Scripture and are encouraged to model the Christian life. In addition, they have great opportunities with sports, an amazing art and music program, fun technology projects and seasonal events for the whole family. ECS is our tribe, we love raising our kids there and partnering with the school in our kids' education. The communication from teachers and administration is fabulous (and I'm a communication major!). It is expensive and worth it.
