Senior: The school has a very good academic program, but the administration makes very questionable decisions sometimes. The higher ups also are not very in touch the needs and wants of the student population. The school also doesn't promote or fund the arts programs, as much as they should. Instead relying on donations to fund those programs past the limited money they put into it themselves. The athletics program is pretty good. Senior: I have loved my Oakridge School experience. I have been attending since I was 3 years old, and I still love it! It has a very nurturing environment. The faculty and staff are always supporting us and ready to help in whatever way they can. I love that the school focuses on "the 3 A's" - Academics, Arts, and Athletics. This has helped me to become a well rounded person. The clubs and organizations offered here are amazing. If there is a club you are interested in, but it is not offered, it is easy to start yourself! I feel valued at this school, and that is hard to come by. The teachers and administration care about you in and out of the classroom. The athletic teams may not be the best, but each team has lots of fun. The arts offered here are amazing. Parent: During our family’s five-year (and counting) tenure at Northstar School, we could not be happier with every aspect of the school. Our kids LOVE this school including the environment, friends, sports, art, electives, field trips, school trips and so much more. The Board, administration and teaching staff are engaged, caring and dedicated. As a parent, I can’t say enough good things about how they support the school, the kids, and the families. I would also like to commend their handling of the COVID-19 shelter-in-place situation. With only one week of extended spring break, the Board, administration and teachers put together an amazing online learning program for the kids. It required a lot of out of the box thinking to plan the remainder of the year and create engaging lessons for the kids and they were hugely successful. Senior: I really enjoyed my time at Nolan Catholic. My mom attended school and is now employed there and my sister also attends Nolan. For the most part, the teachers are incredibly kind and helpful, and knowledgeable about their subject. They are passionate and want students to succeed. The community is unlike any other and I can say with confidence that the students and faculty are some of the most caring and considerate people you will ever meet. There are so many clubs and organizations to get involved in, and moderators are willing to work with you to accommodate as much as possible. There are also many faith-based groups to grow in your Catholic faith and I can say that my faith life and knowledge of my faith has greatly improved over the course of my time at Nolan. Senior: The Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences is a very rigorous and academically focused school. While it's relatively new and small, compared to other larger high schools, they provide many benefits and opportunities to high school students at an early age. Students are able to physically attend school at a community college amongst other college students and actually attend lectures taught by real professors. Not only does this allow students to become accustomed to this diverse environment, but it also gives them a taste of what college is really like. In addition, The Texas Academy of Biomedical also provides students the opportunity to obtain an associates degree during their time there. However, because this school is academically driven, there are very few clubs and other out of school activities, like sports provided. Middle School Student: I moved to this school in 2019 (my junior year), and I love it. The people are all alike in the sense that, we do not cause disruption or start fights. They are changing it into a STEM academy, meaning I will be the last to graduate from here and not he STEM academy. I enjoy the teachers I have, but most of my classes are taken at TCC, and my math teacher is leaving. So, I am not the best person to answer that question. Senior: The teachers at Harmony really show that they value the students and their students' education, not just their own paychecks. They care about a lot about the students and build connections as well as trust with many if not all of their students. I have loved almost all of my teachers so far and I feel that not only myself but many other students trust these teachers with things that we don't trust many other people with. They are not only educators but they are life coaches, friends, and practically parents. The only problem is the lack of control that the students show in the day to day. Junior: The academics are really good! I love how the school is smaller so the teachers and staff know you personally and can help you more! It is more of like a family place and lots of people are really rooted within the school. But since the school is so small everyone knows everything going on and there is a lot of drama. The kids can be pretty mean and there seems to always be a problem within the student body. While there is a lot of nice kids there is still a lot of mean ones. Lots of kids from public schools transfer over to FWC because it is a great school for academics but lots of drama seems to arise when new people come to the school, but not all the time it seems to only happen when they already have some connection from kids at FWC. Alum: Martin was a great school to go to with many opportunities available that some schools aren't as fortunate to have! We had numerous second languages to choose from, I was close to fluent with American Sign Language after four years of ASL classes. Great extracurricular programs that supported the creative minds of the school extremely well - Pentatonix was in my graduating class to give you an example. I put college readiness as 4 stars only due to some dual credit college courses not transfering; maybe that's more academics but it was a bonus in the first place to have access to duel credit. I did not experience much with administration as a student with A's and B's so I rated them as 4 stars due solely to my lack of interaction to know much on the subject; they had to be doing something right though for the school to run well. Junior: I am very grateful to have been given the chance to spend the last 6 years here at FWAFA. As someone who went through Crowley ISD's academic curriculum and student environment, I believe that FWAFA has proven to be a school that prepares students for success. Of course, no school is perfect and there are a few issues with administration here and there (i.e. sometimes communication gets lost in translation and some things aren't announced to the students, teachers, or parents until the last minute) and the facilities need a little renovating. But, overall, I have learned a lot through the academic program especially in the science and english departments. And the fine arts program is fantastic! I have built such good relationships with my fine arts teachers, who teach rigorous lesson plans in order to hone our skills in the aspect of fine arts. Middle School Student: I just finished my 8th grade year at Linda Jobe. I really loved this school! For me, it was so much better than intermediate school, and I had a lot more freedom. The teachers, in my opinion, really point you in the right direction to going to college, and that's one of things I value in schools. For example, we had a Career Pathways class which let you make a 4 year plan for high school, choose your top colleges that you are considering attending, and even apply for scholarships. Overall, my experience at Linda Jobe was awesome.
