Parent: We have a rising Kindergartener, who finished his first year at Friends in Pre-K. As a parent, and an educational professional, I personally could not have designed a better experience for my son, especially during the COVID-related shut down. We initially chose Friends for our son because we wanted more for him; we wanted him to learn through experience, to develop thoughts of his own and more importantly to be part of a community that subscribed to similar values as ours. Our son’s first year was FANTASTIC! Notably, while everyone was scrambling to figure things out when the State shut down, our son was being educated and supported in a way that was developmentally appropriate, fun and responsive. The transition to virtual school was so seamless, that it seemed like it was planned for (it might have been). Sophomore: I really like the supportiveness at Jericho High School. The wide variety of classes caters to students interested in pursuing many paths in the future, from music to STEM to literature. I feel comfortable exploring opportunities with the support of my teachers, who go the extra mile to ensure that I'm always doing my best. The competitive environment is also very different from most schools, so it is not just the teachers encouraging you to do your best, its peers and classmates. Sophomore: I have many opportunities at Portledge, which is something I love about the school. I love our campus because it is very college-like and due to this, the students have a lot of responsibilities, some examples would be having everything we need before walking across campus and scheduling meetings with teachers. Portledge has many pros, but just like any institution, there are also cons. Being an black student at Portledge, a prominently white school, I feel that most of the students are blind to what the (very few) minorities at the school face. I wouldn't say that we face racism, but we have to deal with not being able to say certain things or be our full selves because most of the students there do not understand. I feel that Portledge's curriculum (and other private schools) could be improved by including more modern events that impact some of the students that attend the school. Parent: I used this same review for Baylis Elementary, but it also applies to the middle and high school...our oldest went through the system as well. Our taxes are a bit higher than most other areas , but we get great schools like this and great families as well. Many of the parents may have accents and speak not-so-perfect English, but their values are the same as all Syosset residents. Schools are more than just teachers, programs and facilities. It's who your child is sitting next to and what they bring to your child's life. When so many of our friends in Queens and Manhattan are stressed and scrambling to find schools for their kids to attend, it's nice to know that we don't have to worry about anything for 12 years. +++We were just notified by email that Syosset will be offering Mandarin ESL to incoming 1st and 2nd graders in 2023. Junior: These past years have been truly the best years of my life, and although in years past the dress code and other issues were a big issue, the school has almost completely relaxed the dress code and most rules that were deemed excessive have been almost completely removed. The technology of today has been integrated into the school, and they even have an IT support line as well as updated laptops for both middle and high school. The school has even allowed dyed hair, which seeme unthinkable up to last year. Middle School Student: I love SW almost about everything! Except its food and um, my peers. Some of my male and girl peers are a bit snobby and mean to me, just a few. Some girls there have cliques that do Tik-Tok when there are phone rules and also bully people. The diversity is really good when comparing to race, but not so good during lunch, especially when there's a North and South cafeteria. South has more cliques and "male peers". I believe the curriculum is above average, and that could be because it's in a suburb. Safety is a bit of an issue on the school bus, but it's typical in every middle school. There are 33 clubs this year but I never make it because they begin an hour before my bus comes. The food is okay, but there isn't a lot of choices. That's about it.... Read 4 reviews

Middle School Student: I like most of the things they have taught me in the classes. All of the teachers really do prepare your for when you get into high school and college. I felt like I have learned more from middle school than elementary school. They have very nice culture. Junior: North Shore Hebrew Academy has made my high school experience one that I will never forget. There is such great diversity, with students coming from several different communities, and yet there is such a strong sense of unity among us. When I first began high school, I was nervous that it would be difficult both socially and academically, but I was relieved to find myself in a warm and welcoming environment. Parent: I have 3 children at SSLI. My children have all attended since Kindergarten. One is in elementary school, one is in middle school, and, one is in high school. I love the school. The class sizes are small and the teachers truly care about the students' well-being: academically; socially; and, emotionally. The teachers are all approachable. If a student needs extra help in a subject, it is provided. Also, the teachers regularly communicate with the parents. In addition to an excellent secular academic program and Jewish Studies program, the students are taught personal responsibility, accountability, compassion, and kindness. Senior: As a soon to graduate senior, I have had all the resources needed to succeed and supportive teachers to help me on the way. The school’s staff is great and the majority of the teachers are cool, most more than not. Ive had access to state of the art technology and facilities. The only thing holding me back from giving a full 5 stars is the fact that the seniors have felt a bit neglected this year due to senior privileges being loosely enforced, if even so, such as senior parking being limited due to not cracking down on juniors parking, a senior cafe that any grade level has access to; seniors being forced to eat lunch in a hallway instead of their own cafeteria; and biggest of all, no senior trip. The school advertises their Italy pilgrimage strongly but it only applies to the chorus which the majority is not involved in. Freshman: I am currently a freshman at Sacred Heart Academy and overall it has been an honor going to this school and being a part of the community. Sacred Heart is an amazing school for girls to challenge themselves hence the fact that it's a college predatory high school. When asked to describe a good school most people say that they have amazing teachers and nice friends but I can say that my school has a curriculum based on teaching us and stimulating our brains to live in the real world. The many subjects introduce us to the diverseness of the world. Alongside education, Sacred Heart is a great place to make friends and socialize while staying on top of school work.
