Sophomore: Peddie makes an effort to inform prospective students of its academic rigor. And oh, is school hard at Peddie! The typical school day is packed with a class of challenging math, a productive discussion in Humanities, lectures and labs in Chemistry, Biology or Physics, and more. Students can explore and succeed in a many fields including Computer Science, the Arts or an additional language. After school, students are engaged in a required extracurricular activity. Many students opt for sports, which all have practices in state-of-the-art facilities with the guidance of devoted coaches. I've been on the swim team for the past year, and have found team culture to be wonderful and supportive. Other activities include being in the cast or set crew of musicals, Robotics (FRC), and community service. Senior: I really enjoyed the academics at Biotech, although the classes were definitely difficult. I felt that I was being pushed past my limit at times, feeling overwhelmed and discouraged. Some of my friends had bad experiences with staff members, and the mental health and morale of the school could definitely be improved. I would like to see some change in those areas, possibly through more peer meetings to talk about mental health or something similar. Junior: I really like this school because of the opportunity it gives me to study health care from every angle. I have learned about the history of medicine, standard protocols used in health care, the anatomy and physiology of the body, the impact of nutrition on the body, etc. I also enjoy attending my school because of the people at the school! My teachers make learning fascinating and support their students in any way they can, academically or otherwise. In addition, I enjoy spending time with my peers, as they encourage me to do my best academic work, serve as people who I can relate to, and make me feel like I belong at the school. One action I would take to change my school would be to enlarge its campus. The size of the campus makes the hallways feel very crowded and limits the space for students to play games and sports outside. Junior: Coming from a smaller, public K-12 elementary/middle school, I really wanted to maintain that smaller school atmosphere while also finding a school more catered to the way I learn. I found that when I applied to Communications. The smaller class sizes, the honors level courses, the committed students, and the dedicated teachers & faculty made me feel at home during my 3 years (thus far) at Communications. It's truly unlike any other public high school, which just goes to show how amazing the Monmouth County Vocational School District is. With that being said, Communications is definitely more suited for kids interested in creative writing, design, journalism, etc. rather than math and science (although the math and science are equally as challenging and vigorous as any other high school). Sports aren't something focused on as much, but events like Color Wars really bring out our school spirit. I have never encountered anyone who has had a poor experience at Communications!... Senior: I am a senior graduating from freehold township high school, and I'd say i like my school for the most part. The school has a really great staff and through the years I've met teachers I feel I can trust and rely on. I was able to make friends very easily and most of the students that attend are friendly. I work in the school's drama club and it's had a huge impact on me, I've made so many friends and have so much fun creating the sets for shows. My experience at junior prom was awesome! The school also plans events really well and has lots of fun raisers to fund them. So far my senior year has been the best year of high school, I can't say I regret anything while attending Township. Senior: NJUCA is a very good school to go to. The teachers care about you and will spend extra time with you, the staff as a whole is kind, the education is great, and the campus is safe. The downfalls are that the school is poorly funded, causing restrictions on what the school can afford to do or have. The school is VERY small, so finding friends can be difficult. Junior: I love St.Rose High School! The teachers and staff are extremely welcoming. They really help and guide you through your education. The teachers work with you and make sure you truly understand their lesson. They will stay after class or even school to teach you the lesson. I love that you can just be yourself. St.Rose treats you like you are family. It is a tight-knit community with many opportunities. St.Rose has a great science and math department. They have up-to-date technology which really helps students learn to their best ability. St.Rose was excellent with students and their education during the pandemic. Since the beginning of the school year, there was in-person learning. Students were able to go in full days where they were able to get the best education possible. When we had to go virtual, all the teachers were great with the online learning. teachers helped each other with technology so they could give their students great education. Sophomore: Jackson Memorial is a great school to go to, while they may not be first in the state they have a great academics program. Not to mention the schools variety of clubs, activities, and sports. The teacher are really nice and really care for their students. They have academies which basically chooses all of your courses for your years here. There's the STEM academy, Business Academy, Arts academy which is Art, Music (Instrumental and Vocal), and there used to be Drama, however due to low enrollment they've stopped that section but you can still take the classes. The band is a nationally recognized ensemble, they've been in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade numerous times, as well as the Miss America Parade when it was in Atlantic City, and have even performed in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl Parade. Junior: Grunin's PAA is where I get the most out of high school. The students are motivated and are supported by the teachers. Even if performing arts isn't what you want for the future, this school will prepare you for college and eventually the real world. You should know that the courses that you will be taking will be tough, and teachers will expect the most from you. You will be coached to be as much as professional as you can be. PAA recently got a new building on the OCC campus that is visually beautiful and is complete with two dance studios, a black box theater, and an audio recording room. If you want to challenge yourself, take the associates program! These classes will give you a taste of college-level courses and will supply you with useful college courses at a lower price. Parent: Small classes are a huge plus, although the high schools in the area have high enrollment, the classes aren't huge sizes. There is a club, sport, or other extracurricular activity for everyone. There's a fishing club, PAWS, which works with animal shelter, and so many more! Sports for every season, including bowling. The school is very involved with the students, the guidance counselors will call you if there is an issue and the teachers will also send you an email or call if your child is falling behind or just being lazy! They want to give your child every opportunity to be their best, as we know teens aren't exactly eager to do homework and/or pay attention all the time! Overall, knock wood, there hasn't been any problems that I can think of and my family has been sending their kids there for the past 17 years. Alum: Howard C. Johnson is the smallest of the elementary schools in the Jackson School District that feeds into Jackson Memorial High School. This created such a warm and familial atmosphere among teachers, students, and parents. They were able to give us such special opportunities and the administration in place while I was attending tried their best to promote an exciting learning atmosphere. Between the caring adults committed to their students and the overall spirit of the students, I would recommend this school to anyone looking for a wonderful environment for their children to learn and grow.... Alum: Manchester Township High School offered a wonderful, accepting learning environment that prepared me well for college. Each teacher was understanding in the way they taught, and always provided accommodations and exceptions to those you most needed them. It was a great place to graduate from, and I learned many life skills there. They have a video production wing that is completely unrivaled in all of Ocean County. Their athletics programs are top of the line, and some of my best relationships in high school were with my sporting coaches. If I had to suggest improvements, it would be a reversion back to the original format of 45 minute classes, rather than block scheduling. Block scheduling created gaps in my education where I hadn’t taken a math course in 18 months, and was then thrust into a pre-calculus course. It was difficult to overcome. Senior: As a senior at Jackson Liberty High School, I can honestly say I have had a very positive high school experience. As a strong academic student and a varsity athlete, I have benefited from both the high academic expectations and the athletic prowess that JLHS has to offer. My high school experience has been filled with positive relationships and support from teachers, coaches and administrators and the diversified student body has enriched my high school experience. JLHS provides a safe, conducive learning environment for all.
