Parent: I have two children (mixed race) attending St. Andrew's currently. St. Andrew's is the MOST inclusive school in Mississippi. It has given my children a sense of belonging and safety that is not generally possible in the state of Mississippi. St. Andrew's strives for academic excellence. I have compared St. Andrew's diversity against other public and independent schools and it is far superior. I have compared it's academic program with other public and independent schools and it is far superior. The curriculum and teaching are outstanding. The classroom sizes are small and you are given ample opportunity for assistance throughout your time at St. Andrew's. There are opportunities for sports, arts and extracurricular activities for all children, middle schoolers and young adults. Junior: I have been at Jackson Prep since 6th grade and have loved every second of it! The staff and students are some of the best people you will ever meet. I have had the best mentors through the years. So many amazing teachers have taught me valuable lessons not only in the classroom, but also out of class. I feel that Jackson Prep gives you so many more opportunities that you may not get at other schools. The college counseling program is amazing. The art department is absolutely amazing! Alum: Most phenomenal teachers a district could hope for. These teachers pour themselves into the students and work so hard to motivate them and teach them about things that are truly important. Of course the students learn about math and grammar, but the teachers also teach them about things like the United States Constitution or how a bill becomes a law--lessons that will stick with them for the rest of their lives, regardless of what they decide to be when they grow up, and lessons that are fun and different! Junior: Jackson Academy offers a wide variety of opportunities for its students. There is a wide variety of boys/girls sports that are very successful at the state level, including a D1 producing girls VB team. JA also offers strong arts programs such as show choir, band, theatre, and color guard. Unlike any other MS school, JA offers a sports broadcasting program comparable to SEC sports productions. JA's history and English departments are the strongest academic aspects of the school. The maths and science departments are good, but nothing exceptional. Senior: St. Joseph Catholic School is overall a great school. Although it is a somewhat smaller private school, I find it to have a very welcoming environment. I’ve created long-lasting friendships and been challenged in the classroom, making for a balanced learning experience. The campus is beautiful both throughout the day and during event nights. As of now, I’ve been going to St. Joseph for five years, and I can confidently say that I wouldn’t have wanted to spend my middle and high school years anywhere else. Senior: I’ve been at Northwest since 7th Grade and I think I’ve had the “full experience.” From the good to the bad to the worst of the worst I’ve experienced most of it throughout my time. I think Northwest’s best trait is their focus on academics. They’re big on promoting and encouraging students to join academic clubs/societies (Science Olympiad, NHS, ect.) Northwest is also very good on preparing students for challenges. An example I experienced was when I was a junior and they brought a professional in to prepare us for the upcoming ACT. It helped me personally, my score went up two points! While Northwest focuses on academics, that’s all they seem to focus on. The Arts seem to get left behind quite often from what I’ve seen, they have to often do fundraisers to fund their shows and charge students in the higher classes large fees for each year to get by (no blame to teachers). Sophomore: My experience attending Clinton High School has been enjoyable. I appreciate how the teachers make themselves available us when we need additional help with the classwork. My math teacher has set up a reoccurring zoom link for students to log onto after school for tutoring. She tells us it brings her joy to see us understanding the lesson. The administrators are very kind towards the student body. My coaches show that they want to see me succeed both on the court and off the court. They constantly remind me that I am a "student" athletic. Emphasis on the word, student. I love the atmosphere and culture of our school. Senior: Transferring to Ridgeland High School at the start of my junior year caused me a little worried. I was not sure that I would receive a good preparation for my senior year and plans to come. To my surprise, making such a impactful change right before my senior year paved a way for me to become more knowledgeable of my choices and decisions about my future. It allowed for me to become better at plans and goals. Although I had my doubts about attending a new school. Ridgeland was nothing short of prepared and ready to guide me both academically and personally. Parent: I have been completely satisfied with all aspects of TCA! My children were welcomed with open arms, my children did not see a huge difference in academics as compared to the great public schools in the area, and my children were able to participate in athletics immediately where at the public schools they would never had made the team (public school is large and very competitive). Any problem that has arisen due to the behavior of my children or other children that have been a problem to others has been addressed and taken care of immediately, and we never experienced it again.
