Works Here: I've had the pleasure of teaching at Cooper for the past seven years. Ever since I've joined their faculty, I've learned that Cooper values all members of its community: the amount of care given to students as they navigate a challenging education is something I have not seen anywhere else. Cooper balances a healthy mixture of embracing exciting traditions while being trailblazers and innovators in education, advisory curriculum, and athletics. Senior: Awty overall has been a really great experience for me academics wise. Although the IB is incredibly rigorous, it has taught me a great deal of writing skills, worldly perspective and given me an excellent foundation to go into college to. I appreciate Awty for truly committing to the full IB curriculum and offering classes many other partial IB schools don't. I think the support for students at the school, including the facilities, college councelors and teacher engagement, are nice. Coming from public school, I hadn't experienced very many teachers who loved their jobs and truly wanted to educate. While that's not to say the Awty teacher population is perfect, a majority of them are kind and helpful. Food is also pretty good. My one critic of Awty would be its extremely lackluster arts programs. I believe for the amount of funding the school gets, it should at least have some more competent arts with a selection wider than visual like many other private schools of the same caliber.... Parent: My daughter attends the Village School PreK-4, and I can't express enough gratitude for the amazing support she has received there. When she first started in PK3, she experienced separation anxiety and cried throughout the entire day for the first month. However, the teachers at the Village School were incredibly understanding and patient. Senior: My experience at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory has been great! The environment is perfect for any parent that wants their son to evolve into a goal-oriented young man. Through the IPC approach, our children have developed a real love of learning and are inquisitive and confident to try new things in the safe environment the school has created. Alum: St. Agnes is wonderful. It’s hard, and gossip runs thick in every student’s blood, but the bonds made and the lessons learned are invaluable. I would recommend this school to you/your child only if you/they are not physically disabled. Unfortunately, St. Agnes has a track record of treating their disabled students very poorly. It’s quite a shame. It’s important to keep your head above the water at St. Agnes. Falling behind is lethal. For some, that may encourage hard work and discipline, but for others with ADHD or autism and the like, it may cause severe executive dysfunction. I would know, because it happened to me. I barely crawled my way out. BUT! The good far outweighs the bad. Please know that self-discipline is something you must learn, lest you sink further and further down the depths of your own procrastination. Senior: I believe that this school was thoroughly beneficial in terms of exposure to advanced content, and learning how to navigate through difficult circumstances. However, being here can be very overwhelming, and it is very easy to be caught up in academic achievement that self neglect becomes a major factor. My advice to future students is to really deliberate if the Health Sciences is something you are truly passionate about. Senior: Seven Lakes Highschool is a wonderful school to go to! The Fine Art Department is great in every category. The Orchestra does amazing, the band does amazing, the choir does amazing, the theater department is super cool! It's great to express yourself there. The education is good too. Most teachers are good and nice. Some teachers are absolutely amazing and will go beyond. The athletic department does great except in football but we'll get there one day. Junior: My experience at Incarnate Word Academy has been amazing. We are a small, all-girl, and Catholic High School in downtown Houston. The teachers here have the highest degrees in their field and have a passion for teaching. They work with you and will take the time to help you with what you need help with. We have many honor and AP classes, which I have taken a few, and the classes are absolutely amazing. There are no boys here at our school but that is what brings the students closer together. We are a small school, with 400 students in total, the students are really close; whether, it is in sports, clubs, or in classrooms. I have been in Cross Country and Track here since freshman year. Even though our team is small compared to other schools, we always place top 10 at state. We have the best coaches, they played in college and Coach the sport here! Senior: Coming from a large middle school, the Environment at Clear Horizons was quite a change. Here, you arent surrounded by random peers and thousands of other students. At clear Horizons, we are family. There are around 500 kids in my school which is shocking to outsiders. The best thing about this school is the support system that you couldn't get at public schools. Everyone knows who you are and you know who everyone else is too. You grow relationships and bonds with the teachers and the most of the students. Everyone youre surrounded by is here to help when needs and support your goals. I have made friends that stick with me for the rest of my life and im so honored to have been accepted into Clear Horizons. This school allows you to prepare for college with its dual diploma program, form life long friendships, and try new things like all the different clubs and activities on campus. Alum: I was a student at Post Oak for 10+ years and I personally value my experience. At the primary and elementary levels the school has all the Montessori essentials such as the Five Great Lessons, materials for hands-on learning, as well as guidance and availability from teachers during open-work time. Meanwhile, Post Oak took more liberties in designing its program at the adolescent level. It seems to be more humanities heavy, so if you are looking to focus more on the sciences it might not be the best choice. There are many other opportunities though, like the numerous trips and internships. The cost is included in tuition and the experiences look great on resumes. Post Oak also teaches a lot of soft skills, for example, one of the most valuable skills I gained was how to engage in seminars and develop my own voice. Sophomore: The best way to describe Kerr High School is that it's like being in college. Instead of individual classrooms like traditional high schools, it has centers for the main subjects: Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. Students have only four classes a semester, two core classes and two electives. Despite the lack of the other four classes in the same semester, the workload is equivalent to that of a traditional eight-course high school. My favorite part about this high school is that they give you the responsibility and freedom to do what you want, whether it be going to a different part of the school or not teaching you because all the material is basically given to you. Seminars are held occasionally, to clarify and teach certain topics. I haven't had a bad experience with Kerr; it's an amazing high school that I would recommend to upcoming freshmen....
