Sophomore: I'm a student taking the MBacc course at Elite Open School. MBacc course gives us a completely different opportunity of learning from the original high school course. MBacc class goes on online and follows the form of the class called the forum that is made by Minerva University. In the forum, we meet teachers and students living in different countries online. The advantage that I found in this course is that we are doing 'real' learning, not just studying for exams or university. By doing student-led classes and lots of presentations, we learn what we have to learn in the real world and relate every topic to each other. Whenever I take the class, I feel like I'm really learning something very useful and meaningful. Even though there are some parts where we have many work-loads for every class, a small number of students in class, and different time-line with teachers and other students, these factors also make us more productive and have real close relationships with the class!... Senior: I have loved my time at Troy High School these past four years. Even though my sophomore year was Covid, my school has prepared me for everything I can imagine college will possibly be. I have great relationships with my teachers, they are truly in my corner and encouraging me to dream so much farther than I ever was when I started freshman year. I feel challenged in what I am learning but excited about what it to come. and I am a little restless, just ready to get going for what is next after high school. I think my time at Troy really got me ready for that! Troy has been so much fun with clubs and my soccer team and kept things balanced while keeping school going and life got busy. Senior: I came from a public school and transferred into St. John Bosco during the sophomore year. The school atmosphere was a breathe of fresh air. Teachers and staff have a true sense of care for the students that I didn't find at my previous school. I wasn't a very religious child, but St. John Bosco didn't treat me worse because of this fact. This is a institution for not only religious children, but children who want to better themselves outside of the classroom. Amazing sports teams and clubs. This school is so innovative with the Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Computer Science, Bio-Medical programs. Alum: The academics and extracurriculars offered there are really quite fantastic. Sunny Hills has a plethora of AP and Honors classes to choose from, as well as a rigorous IB program. There are a wide variety of clubs there, from cultural clubs (such as KCC, Mana, ISA, and Bayanihan) to civic engagement clubs (like Key Club, Link Crew, and MUN) and even academic competition clubs (Science Olympiad, CyberPatriot, and OCAD). The BEST part about Sunny, by far, is the annual International Food Fair. In the spring, the school hosts a festival with hundreds of tables for students to exchange food for tickets at, and these foods represent the cultures of countries around the world! There's also the IFF assembly, in which all the aforementioned cultural clubs get to perform cultural dances and share their significance with the rest of the school. Junior: The group project-based learning and involved teachers at iPoly create an environment that encourages real academic growth, which seperates it from other highschools. Each teacher genuinley values the student's futures and wants each indivudual to succeed in whatever they do. The classes don't feel dull or uninteresting, and each project we get pushes us out of our comfort zones in the best way possible. Senior: It’s been ok, usual and casual high school experience. Starting out was rough, since I had transferred schools and districts the summer before freshman year during covid. Since then, I’ve noticed the little things change. I’ve gotten out of my shell more, I’ve gathered enough courage to do more things connected to school or my community. I’ve also acquired more friends, and gotten to know most (if not all of) the staff on campus! Middle School Student: I attended Veritas Classical Academy from 2013 to 2016, after coming to the US with my family and father, who attended college here to get a second degree. Back then, I was inexperienced in most aspects, especially English and in developing relationships with other people. Veritas was still a very small school when I attended, and their method of letting both young and old students mingle, and interact with each other was such a shock and very different from what I experienced in Korea. And yet, the method seems to have worked perfectly; I was surprised to find out that bullying and violence was common in most middle-and-high-schools, since I'd never experienced anything of the sort at Veritas. I thought all American schools were that nice! Overall, attending Veritas was a real blessing in my life, because it allowed me to get a good education, which allowed me to open my eyes to the world, think a tier above "other kids", and follow God. Alum: I went here more than 10 years ago for all four years. I went to a Lutheran school k-8, and I was a wealthy-ish white person. In reading the reviews, I’m so sad that many poc felt they didn’t belong. I wish I could have been more observant back then because I was so oblivious. I had a lot of friends who were poc and I never thought they had a hard time. I wish I asked. I loved a lot about the school. I LOVED the culture of the mission trips. I loved my classmates and I loved the teachers. I think the only reason I gave 4 stars is because… (at times)… there were some short-sighted decisions. I remember when I was there, the students pick the most good looking seniors and other students paid them to kiss their friends. Also- as others have said- there was a lot of shaming when it came to dress code. Maybe a few other things too didn’t seem to capture God’s heart as much. But no place is perfect. Sophomore: I came in high school so I didn't get a chance to go to the middle school or elementary school. However, I wish that I did because the teachers and the learning environment are amazing! The teachers like building relationships with their students and it doesn't feel like they are just there to teach you, which makes learning a lot more fun. The school offers lots of sports, too, and from what I've seen, the coaches are amazing! The school also has tons of fun electives that you can do, such as orchestra, band, ceramics, choir, art, etc. One of my favorite parts of Valley Christian High School is all the fun events that they put on: the Harvest Festival, the Sadie's Hawkins Dance, Homecoming, Winter Formal, Junior-Senior Banquet, Prom, and Broadway Showcase (which is a showcase that the entire school puts on, including the elementary and middle school). Parent: The 2021/2022 school year has been my family's first year at Spirit and it has been a great year! I have a son in 1st, a daughter in 3rd, and a daughter in 5th grade. This school is a wonderful option for families that want to homeschool but also want the on campus experience for their kids. Spirit does a great job with organizing many fun events throughout the year including field trips, monthly "stay and play" activity-filled after school days, a Thanksgiving party, a Christmas concert, and a talent show. The teachers do an incredible job of staying connected with the parents to keep on track with the curriculum and classwork. My family has really enjoyed connecting with the other families at this school. It is a very unique and wonderful community. There is so much support here.
