Senior: Although small, the St. Mark's community is great as there are a myriad of ways to connect with others. One example is how the Seniors get little buddies (1st through 3rd graders) that they interact with throughout the year, and at the all School Christmas party, bring their little buddy in on their shoulders and let them put an ornament on the Christmas Tree. This is only one of the many ways that St. Mark's brings everyone in the community together. Even if some of the courses are hard, the teachers are great and willing to meet outside of class to help students out. Parent: Our daughter is a 2020 Graduate. She started in the 9th grade after transferring from another private school. We quickly learned that she was not prepared for the expectations for her grade level but throughout her 4 years, EVERY teacher was willing to lead her to success if she was willing to put in the effort (which she was)! Parent: The teachers are skilled in dealing with multiple styles of learning (kinesthetic, verbal, and visual) often integrating all three styles seamlessly throughout the day during any given lesson, based on the needs of the child. I am not worried that my youngest child with a summer birthday should be held back a year. Every student receives individualized plans, adjustments are made to assist the child where areas of growth are accelerating them in subjects where they show strength. All of the teachers receive training in the grades above them and they introduce advanced work if it is needed. As evidenced by the many accolades, Alcuin teachers are clearly in the top of their field. Middle School Student: I am about to complete my 11th year at DIS. The people here are simply wonderful! The teachers care deeply for their students, the school is open to new ideas (they let girls wear comfortable shoes when they began a campaign against the uncomfortable expensive ones all the other schools require), the cafeteria food is healthy and the academics are amazing! I must however state that the upper campus (5th grade to 12th) has no gym so they often rent UTD or use Sportsplex. Sophomore: I rated my experience at Liberty High School as 4/5 stars because, for the most part, I would say that I have enjoyed my time in school for the past two years. The school environment has always been extremely inclusive to all people, and that has definitely made me feel safe and welcomed. The best part of my experience at Liberty High School would be the closeness that I discovered with my friends and teachers. However, the worst part is that the girls' bathroom is not always the cleanest or safest place due to a small group of students who use the area as a place to vape and do drugs. Parent: We have been with Westwood for past 5 years and have kids in lower school and upper school. The teachers and staff are amazing. The Montessori environment in lower school instills the love of learning, good study habits and early introduction to "see one, do one , teach one" culture. The upper school has IB curriculum and again the teachers are amazing. It is great to see the kids have a sense of responsibility, self awareness and good study habits in upper school and continue to develop these skills. Freshman: I love all my teachers, classmates, and friends. One of my favorite Teachers, Miss Pineda helped me grow in my Spanish ability like no other teacher. She not only taught me Spanish, but she also taught me that being nervous is a good thing! The homework load is rigorous so we students can go deeper in our studies! Senior: My experience at Reedy has been a mix of good and decent. It is good because of some of the teachers and because of the classes that you can attend. However, there is still much room for improvement. Reedy has issues with giving high school kids freedom/respect. Because of specific kids vandalizing bathrooms, all students get punished and aren't allowed to move about the school. You can also tell that some of the teachers aren't treated properly because so many have quit within the past 2 years. Reedy has the potential to be an inclusive and comforting environment if the staff listened and cared about students' complaints, giving the people that attend your school a voice in important matters and decisions.... Senior: My overall experience at Heritage high school has been great! I am involved in cross country, BPA, and have started my own chapter for a non profit. I have made made many friends throughout these experiences, and have had so many great teachers who have inspired my learning and helped me to become the best version of myself. Senior: My experience at Centennial High school was really fulfilling. It has good diversity, a wide range of classes, good career classes, and good career programs. One of my most memorable experiences at Centennial is ISM, which stands for Independent Study and Mentorship program. ISM is a research program where I got to research the topic of use of biomedical engineering in cancer; I got to meet professionals in this field and interview them on their work in the field. After I am done with the interviews I can choose a mentor that can help me with my final product that will reflect my understanding of this field. I wish there was more emphasis on career focused classes since many kids at my school only cared about having a high GPA, so kids did not have the incentive to take those classes as they did not weigh as much as AP classes. Parent: We moved to TCA from public school and have been incredibly pleased with the academic rigor, faculty as well as the kind students and families. It’a a very welcoming school and there are many opportunities for families to be involved. The school does a nice job of providing opportunities for the students to bond and while they do have their groups of friends like any other school, the kids are taught to be kind and accepting of others. My child has made new friends because of these opportunities and I have seen other children have similar experiences as well. The teachers are wonderful and very good at communicating. We have seen quite a bit of academic growth in our child since coming to TCA and are very pleased with the progress. We are confident she will be ready for college when that time comes.
