Senior: Berwick Academy has been the best place for me to learn and grow as a student and person the past 6 years. The teachers truly care, the head of school is incredible, and I have never met unkind person in the student body. Here it’s definitely cool to be smart, athletic, or musically gifted - everyone finds their place. The best part is the balance at BA - school work was challenging, but not overbearing. I found time to get my work done, play varsity athletics, head 3 clubs, and drive 2 hours everyday. I’m in tears because I miss this school so so much. Everyone cares about you - whether it’s the lunch staff asking about your day or a random person walking down the path. It is because of the balance and environment that Berwick offers that I am who I am and going to a top tier university! Even my parents tell me every cent was worth it. Junior: St. Thomas is a very good community. There is really no bullying or "mean girls" or anything like that. There are a lot of opportunities especially considering the seize of the school, and if someone wants to do something that the school does not offer then they will be helped by teachers or guidance counselors so students are never held back. The teachers are also extremely devoted to their work and are focused on giving students the skills that they will need later on for life rather than constantly making them memorize random facts.... Parent: Having sent both of my children through Great Works School I can't say enough about their experiences. The school has wonderful teachers who aim to make each student feel welcome and included. There are so many offerings for the kids after school as well as during the school day. Kids can participate in intramural sports as well as cooking, chess club and Spanish Club. The reading program in the 4th grade is called Flex and each student is taught based on their needs. There are also lots of projects followed by special celebrations of what the students have learned. The school has multiple outdoor classrooms that classes use for instruction or just hanging out and reading. There isn't anything I would change about my children's experience at Great Works.... Alum: I enjoyed my time at York high school! I was a three season varsity athlete, and managed to balance my schoolwork with sports. York High School was one of the very top schools in the state of Maine and treated its education very seriously. Senior: As someone who went to a public school all throughout middle school, Marshwood was a nice introduction into public school. All the teachers made me feel welcomed and my peers made these past 4 years a lot more exhilarating. One of the things I would change though is the school food. I've had several friends bite into a burger and find it was bright pink or cold in the middle. Middle School Student: I am a long time SCS student now graduating 8th grade. Sadly my last year! :( I can not explain the AMAZING arts and music programs and learning enviroment. . I started playing viola in 3rd grade because it is mandatory that you take a stringed instrument. (best decision ever) I still play viola and since of my previous knowledge of learningn it, I now play many more instruments including ukulele, upright bass, keyboard, guitar, and as well as doing vocals with an incredible teacher (shout out to Jean!) Art is included in every way it can be. State testing is done through a different program where we add a art element, and it makes testing fun! Junior: The community is very tight knit, everyone gets along and there are very few problems between students.
