Eastport-South Manor Junior/Senior High School
409 Best Public High Schools in New York
- Eastport-South Manor Central School District, NY
Alum: I loved the relationships between the students and faculty. They really go above and beyond to help their students achieve their goals. I found that many teachers didn't just teach to the test , but taught for clarity and understanding. Their passion is what inspires and motivates students daily. Although i have to say , the students are not always the best to be around - but maybe thats the same within every school. A lot of students act entitled and it seems as if nothing is done to address this issue. Also at times, the school can allow for a cliquey environment with its huge emphasis on the athletics. Overall though, I have really enjoyed my high school experience and can't imagine going anywhere else. High school is high school and at times it may suck , but i guess thats just life.

The Speyer Legacy School
- Private School
- New York, NY
Parent: My children have blossomed at Speyer. They learn to be citizens of the world, interested in their local and global communities. Speyer's combination of seminar based learning and rigorous quantitative curriculum keep the students challenged and engaged. Debate (an after school club and an academic class) begins in kindergarten and progresses until 8th grade. (Speyer teams won Urban Debate League state championships for the past 2 years in a row!). Sports are available though athletes skip school teams to participate in outside leagues. Many Speyer students are gifted musicians. We have been to see schoolmates perform at Carnegie hall and Lincoln Center. The leadership opportunities available for 8th graders help prepare students for the challenges of high school. Graduating Speyer students have gone on to NYC specialized high schools, top NYC independent Schools and top Boarding Schools.
