Senior: Without a doubt, the community and academics at Emma Willard are incredible. From day one everyone has been warm and welcoming, and everyone here really cares about one another. The teachers are always there to help with classwork/homework or just to have a chat, and the schedule is set up so there's built in time to hang out with friends and still get work done. The curriculum itself is challenging, but to a level that students will feel comfortable with and can keep up with, and as I said the faculty are always there to help. I do think the school has a lot of room to improve in it's mental health/counseling services, but the school is attempting, I think, to be responsive to it's students, it's just taking a long time. However, despite the slowness it does seem to be progressing in its DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) work, and has committed to continue working on it for the foreseeable future, which is super great!... Works Here: It is a great to work at this school! Caring administrators, teachers, coaches and staff is the number 1 reason I would choose this school for my kids. It is a rigorous curiculum with all of the support necessary for students of all ages. Senior: Shaker High School was probably the best thing that ever happened to me in my life. I went to a small middle school outside the district and I had the choice to go to shaker and I took it only because my friends were going to that school, I had no idea the amount of opportunity and growth I'd have at my disposal at this school. When I entered the school it was overwhelming with how many students were in my class and all the different classes they offered but I had a great councilor and friends who helped guide me to what I'd be interested in. At shaker I discovered my passion for art and architecture and now that's the field I'm majoring in. Shaker does have it's issues but what school doesn't. Overall I'd say Shaker is the best high school in the NY capital region. The teachers care about their students and are invested in our success. Senior: Academy of the Holy Names has been a great experience through high school. I would recommend any young girl to explore this school as an option for either middle or high school to help prepare for college. The school provides an excellent environment to help develop beyond the classroom, creating newfound confidence in the girls. Senior: Columbia High School, in East Greenbush New York, offers a safe and encouraging place to learn and prepare for college. Teachers have helped me find what I'm passionate about and helped me learn to prepare for my future. With my passion for coding, the guidance office helped me sign up to take coding and programming courses that I am thrilled to have taken. The teachers have helped me in getting ready and prepared for college by giving us assignments based on what we may see in the future with college preparation courses. The culture within Columbia is also very good with students being able to talk and trust our teachers. They have put other students and me first to help me understand the courses that I'm learning. Junior: When I first started at cba, I was nervous that because of the uniforms, and an all boy, military, and religious environment I would miss out on key “high school highlights” that would happen anywhere else. But now looking back on to the years as a cba brother and now looking to become a senior and staff officer in the brigade I’ve realized that cba was the school that provided me great experiences that surpassed my expectations of what I could accomplish in high school. For starters the academic environment is great as the low class sizes make it easier to focus. Another thing about academics is that someone will always be pushing you to do better whether it’s a classmate or a teacher. This school also has a great college preparation program where it guarantees kids good colleges if they’re dedicated to do so. Parent: As a parent, choosing LCS was one of the best decisions we ever made with our two kids. They loved their time at LCS with our only regret not starting them there since kindergarten or Pre-K. There are so many positives that I will run out of space in this review. It is a school where the teachers and administration truly care about the students and their families. The academics are strong with an emphasis on challenging the students to think analytically and to truly learn a subject. The students have the opportunity to take college credit classes which has allowed both of our kids to start college academically as sophomores which is a big financial incentive! The Christian worldview teaching matches with our worldview which was a must for any private school for our family. The opportunity to be part of extracurricular activities like sports, clubs, music and drama all contribute to a well rounded student. Senior: Averill Park w great, however the music and art departments deserve more funding! I had many great experiences with the friends I made and the faculty that taught me. The students involved in the music and performing arts departments are some of my greatest friends and they are a wonderful representation of how wonderful the student body is.
