Freshman: I like the welcoming environment and sense of belonging from going to this school. Loomis’s emphasis on the Best Self and Common Good is present throughout the school‘s culture and social life, and hence the school is very open and accepting. The diversity at the school made me feel welcome and accepted, and Loomis’s programs to raise awareness for groups like the LGBTQ+ community were reaffirming and a nice action for National Coming Out Day. The school’s academic programs are beneficially challenging as well, with flexibility in advancing in courses such that students are able to take sufficiently challenging courses. The music, arts and after school activities all have an abundance of applicable resources. Works Here: Westminster is a wonderful community and school. I had a chance to get to know the school prior to joining the faculty and was struck by how welcoming everyone was and the strong commitment to individualized and holistic education. The school's small size and many offerings allow students to challenge themselves in a supportive environment, pursue their passions, and just as importantly try new things. Being a part of their journeys and seeing them transform into confident, well-rounded, and passionate young adults, who are ready to make their future communities better, is incredibly rewarding. Senior: Senior here, and I loved my experience... mostly! Some teachers are better than others, but the majority of my teachers are intellectually engaging and really care about their students. The student body isn't particularly diverse, but there is an effort being made to mitigate that and to better support out BIPOC students. The best thing about Walker's is unquestionably the way that we've been encouraged to speak our minds and challenge the system. For this empowerment alone I have to recommend the school. Of course, there are downsides, administration can be stuck in its ways, and one often feels powerless to change our school. Sophomore: Northwest Catholic High School has a great community surrounded by different types of people that make you feel accepted. The academics are very competitive. The teachers and the curriculum prepares students for life beyond high school, whether that includes college or a career path. Northwest Catholic has 20+ clubs and activities, so anyone who goes there can find multiple activities that they are interested in. The school also has many sports in competitive conferences, and students, staff and alumni come to a lot of the games to show their support for the teams. As a student here, I have never met anyone who has felt unsafe in the school’s environment. Northwest Catholic High School has a very inclusive environment that has a close community. Many students who went to Northwest school have returned to teach, send their kids, or have come back to stay in touch with their fellow classmates. Parent: TMS is an excellent school! It provides a well-rounded education - where your student will be 'well-known and well-loved'. My sons have been at TMS since kindergarten and are now Juniors. The support they have been provided throughout their time has been amazing! Parent: WOW, is all I can say about HCSS West! As a parent, we all want the best for our children but lets face it, it may not be achieved in a public school setting. For my child, it definitely wasn't and was looking for a new environment where he wasn't labeled any more. I did my research which showed both good & bad reviews. We went for a tour and talked to people. Since he was almost failing his core classes, he was miserable, and he fought every time he had to get ready for school, I figured what was the worst thing that could happen with the change? I just knew it was stressful and a miserable way to start every day. Day one, he came home and said he loved it which brought tears to my eyes. Never had we heard anything like that from his mouth! Never had we seen excitement to go to school! Never had we seen him make honor roll! Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this to happen but I am so happy it did. Junior: Junior at East Catholic. Had a lot of issues with the school involving the administration, but President Sean Brennan has done an amazing job fixing the place up! He’s created a much more comfortable environment for students of color, and put in a clear effort to fix the major flaws of the school. Many of the issues present in my freshman year are gone now. Alum: At Achievement First Hartford High school, I really enjoyed the academic experience. The teachers really take their time to provide you with the information you need to help you be successful in the future. There are many resources around to help each student individually. The environment is always welcoming to everyone and the school tries their hardest to make sure they involve parents in activities. When it comes to things that need to be changed there are many. Senior: I loved my time here! The teachers and administration are very supportive, kind, and very understanding. If you feel overwhelmed, it's super easy to work something out with your teachers and guidance counselor. They offer a lot of artistic opportunities to students to help get their work known and activate their creative spark.
