Senior: I mostly enjoyed my experience at Notre Dame Preparatory School. NDP has so many amazing opportunities in academics, clubs, organizations, and service. I had the best teachers ever who genuinely cared about their students and were always there to help their students grow in their academics. NDP is full of wonderful traditions as well which brings together all of the students. Two of my favorite traditions were ring day and Gym Meet! Senior: Western is a school for the nerds and geeks. If you have an extreme passion for any of the fields provided as magnet classes, you should apply! The teachers genuinely care about what their teaching, and the classes are always diverse. The student body is very friendly, and there's a lot of good and interesting clubs that are offered. Senior: Calvert Hall is a brotherhood. Calvert Hall makes it known through the faculty, teachers, alums, and down to the students that we are a community. There is no sense of a superiority idea at Calvert Hall, seniors will help freshmen, juniors to sophomores. At Calvert Hall one of the most important values is community. Senior: If you want a safe and encouraging space to explore and immerse yourself in your interests, then G.W. Carver Center for Arts & Technology is for you. With 11 primes/magnets, there is something for everybody, whether it's acting or game design or even culinary arts! There are plenty of opportunities for students to work on projects for their primes, and there's even a 30-minute break in the middle of the day, called "Wildcat Time", where students can choose to attend a club, study for classes, or just relax. My teachers are extremely kind and encouraging, and they always take time out of their day to help me understand concepts I may struggle with, and I can tell they really want us as students to succeed. Junior: My experience at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute has been amazing thus far. My classmates are so friendly and there is a very welcoming, supportive atmosphere. The teachers are also great, though they can definitely do better by getting rid of some of those older staff members. They have a tendency (Ms Eldridge & Ms Little specifically) to get smart and be rude when it is absolutely not needed. They’re actually a bit annoying and I somehow find myself almost always angry after every interaction I have with Ms Eldridge and am pleasantly surprised when she doesn’t catch an attitude with me. Freshman: I love my school! The academics are amazing and have many options for all levels. Personally, I take the highest classes I can, but people taking lower classes succeed as well. I love my teachers and believe they generally prepare me very well. The extracurriculars at this school are amazing. I am heavily involved in the music program, and if you're a musician, this is the right school for you. I would be shocked if someone found a school in the area with a better music program. The sports are also amazing. Every Spalding team performs so well and I'm so impressed with all of them. Overall, as someone with very high goals, I feel that Archbishop Spalding is adequately preparing me and giving me every opportunity I could ever want, to the point where it's hard to even chose what to do at our school. Senior: As a senior at Mount Saint Joseph High School, I have enjoyed many aspects of my high school experience. One thing that stands out to me is the sense of community at MSJ. There is a strong brotherhood among the students, and the faculty and staff are supportive and caring. I have also appreciated the academic rigor of the curriculum, which has prepared me well for college. However, there are also areas where I feel the school could improve. One thing that comes to mind is the lack of diversity among the student body and faculty. As an all-boys Catholic school, MSJ has historically had a predominantly white student body, and there is a need for greater representation and inclusivity. Parent: My oldest daughter selected Mercy after visiting several of the all girls private schools in the area. It was the teachers that made the difference for her- she came away with the feeling that the teachers really wanted their girls to be successful, and were more than willing to put in extra time before or after school, during planning periods, or even at lunch. She felt comfortable seeking help when she needed it, and it paid off- she was on the Dean's list in college. Another daughter found her voice at Mercy. Naturally gifted, but often disorganized, she was encouraged and challenged at Mercy. Taking on leadership roles in the fine arts, she edited the literary magazine and was featured in art exhibits. This translated to a paid writing position in college, as the featured Art reporter for the local newspaper. Parent: My son during COVID was doing very poorly at BCPS although he is a gifted student. BCPS allowed him to turn in work very late, never do homework and lose all sense of discipline and motivation. He was also very sad about being isolated at home. I contacted Concordia and they had 1 opening in January and allowed him to attend. It was the best decision we ever made. He was so happy from start to finish this year. He never complained about going to school and often got up and dressed on his own. In short, he loved it. Concordia teachers respond to my concerns within 1.5 hours of my question, they are available to speak with me any time, and genuinely care how my son is doing. The best part was he attended school in person, at first part-time in January, and was full-time by April. The staff requires that the students behave themselves properly in school. Parent: Calvary Baptist Church Academy has been such an incredible blessing to our family. As we were looking at schools to send our son for Kindergarten, we were looking for a school that was affordable, but with quality education, and a Christian foundation. Calvary Baptist has been all of that for our son and more. This year of all years with this pandemic, we have been so impressed by how Calvary has handled the unusual times we live. Their staff worked hard to provide a safe environment with the health crisis but still forged ahead to stay open in-person despite enormous pressure. In the end, the school has successfully navigated the challenges of Covid-19 and provided our son with the kind of Kindergarten experience he never would have had.
