Junior: Greenhills is a diverse, tight knit community that has really helped me become more confident in my artistic abilities, writing, and performance overall. It's a really small school which makes it great for individualized learning and opportunities. This is only further enhanced by the array of diverse voices being heard. The literary classes in particular showcase some amazing books on diversity and inclusion. My main gripe with the school is its lack of diverse education resources- it isn't great at providing aid for neurodivergent kids. Some teachers also don't properly use the homework website and neglect updating or even showing grades for each academic term. Personally, the small student body has helped me grow to be a more confident individually but, it does get a bit boring and monotonous to just see the same people everyday. Parent: After a few months of online schooling and many tears, we were desperate to find an in-person alternative to the anxiety inducing situation we were in. Our 9 year old son and almost 5 year old daughter have been attending the lower school since January and we are extremely pleased and feel so fortunate to have landed there. Our sensitive son’s anxiety level has been lowered significantly, and he really responds to the learning style there. He is thrilled to be learning cursive and German and knitting, and also seems to really appreciate the extra outdoor time and learning about nature and Native American stories in addition to his times tables and long division. Our nearly 5 year old daughter’s imagination is put to great use every day and she has also become quite the little finger knitter! The environment is nurturing and thoughtful. Junior: I have been School since I was in pre-K, so naturally this became my second home. The teachers are like my aunts and uncles and they care very deeply about my education and are very passionate about what they teach to every student at the school. My experience has been much more than just an academic journey, but rather allowed me to live through years and years of warm gatherings and afterschool activities with the teachers and students I love who are considered family members, I will deeply miss them once I depart to college.... Junior: The best part of Washtenaw is you’re on your own path and I have options instead of my path already being set for me. I got to pick a major, and I will be graduating high school with an associates degree in a field of my own choice. The school also takes mental health serious and accommodates me so I can do the best I can. The hardest parts was getting used to everything being my own responsibility, and having so much freedom at the campus. In the end they helped me learn independence and a lot more personal responsibility. Senior: Dexter is, overall, a very privileged school. My complaints are few and far between. The quality of education is high and the teachers, for the most part, very passionate and helpful. It is also an incredibly safe environment. It also provides higher level classes to those who wish to take them. Overall, Dexter is very accommodating and accepting. Sophomore: The teachers and staff at Early College Alliance are all very helpful and truly care for your success. They work quickly to help prepare you for a college class by finding where your current level is and then taking the steps to improve from there. Every student has a CORE advisor, which is a member of the ECA program (usually a teacher) that you can talk to about your schedule, any difficulties you're having, or something else and they'll respond with helpful feedback. The campus is incredibly nice and, as ECA students, we have access to pretty much all of it. I'm very glad that I decided to come to ECA to further my education and make all my new friends. Parent: My daughter started at KWoods about five years ago. We were , at first, concerned that the small school wouldn't have enough challenges and opportunities for her, but we were wrong. The teachers and varieties of experiences might have actually been more than a large school because everything was within her reach. At a large school she probably wouldn't have tried all the sports she tried, or been on leadership. She maintained her high grades, did well on her SATs, learned a ton about music and has had an all-around great experience with far less drama and no drugs or drinking. Great staff!... Senior: As someone who has attended several different kinds of educational institutions (online, private, public, charter), I truly believe that education is what YOU make out of it. Central Academy has caring staff who are willing to go above and beyond to meet your needs. While IB and AP curriculum aren't offered at this time, they willingly pay for students to take dual-enrollment college classes. As a rising senior, I will be graduating with around 40 college credits and will be well acquainted with the rigor of college-level courses. There are many opportunities to start your own extracurriculars, an endeavor the staff is more than willing to support you in. Whether you want to test out of a class, request to take additional college courses, or change your schedule, the staff is more than willing to help if you take the time to ask. Parent: After three years, we continue to say that we love this school! The teachers make an effort to really understand our kids and their learning styles and approaches. The teachers are also able to work with our kids in recognizing their interests but encouraging them to try new things. Yes, the small class size allows this type of interaction and, yes, we do have to pay tuition. But if your child is neurodiverse and differently wired, they will be at home here. Parent: I am so grateful for this school. When my oldest son was finishing up kindergarten in another state, his teacher's one recommendation was to put him in a smaller school. Well, we found the right school in Ann Arbor Christian school. He made instant friends. He receives a lot of encouragement from teachers and peers. I am sometimes incredulous at the welcoming and positive environment, especially in places I don't expect it such as the middle school students being so genuinely friendly with our children. We were looking for a school that would give our children continuity between home and school and we found it. The Bible teaching we engage in at home is supported at school.
