Senior: I came to CK during the pandemic. It obviously was not a traditional experience, however, comparatively, the school's response to the pandemic in ensuring the best possible education was provided to their students was definitely exceptional. With the amazingly breathtaking campus, CK has the facilities and resources like no other high school that students have the full advantage of utilizing. Students had the opportunity to return to campus for in-person learning a lot sooner the other schools due to the spacing available. Senior: Roeper's claim that it is "more than a school" may sound like typical school propaganda, but it's largely true. While its programs in Music and Sports are mediocre (mostly due to the fact that there are only 50 kids per grade), the teachers are incredible and students are generally very smart and kind. I have three independent studies this year, in which I study fractal geometry and animal intelligence and compose jazz tunes. The school has a social justice commitment that can at times seem a bit too much, but I ultimately really appreciate the school's bias towards fact over non-partisanship. Middle School Student: This is my second year in Liggett and I have had an amazing time. With all the great people I’ve met. The teachers are really nice. You will always find help when you need it. There are many activities to do outside of school as well. This goes along with sports, robotics, theater/acting and all kinds of other enjoyable events offered here. Lunch is provided each and everyday and the food is great. Learning is not rushed so you can be sure to understand everything that you are taught. There are several different electives to choose from. Also, Liggett includes the whole family. They host events that anybody can join in on. Sometimes there are events to introduce new families. There has been auctions, fundraisers, and fun events hosted by the school to raise money. Either way you should always know that you will have a great time at Liggett. Go Knights!... Parent: As a parent, the most important factor is your child feeling like he matters, their goals matter, and that teachers/counselors are invested in both. Brother Rice does this in spades. While things like facilities (which they improve every summer), outstanding college prep academics, and parent involvement help make this school culture great, it is the opportunities to thrive, find new interests, create/join as many clubs as they like, be part of many different circles, and to feel like their teachers care about them that sets Brother Rice apart. Brother Rice goes deep with State Championships in several sports, but the rumor that only sports kids will thrive here is false. Senior: Grades K-8, I went to public schools in South Lyon. I was not expecting to attend Detroit Catholic Central. However, I am very glad that I did attend Detroit Catholic Central. I have learned that it is okay to ask for help. Many of my teachers have taken valuable time out of their life to give me extra help. They have helped me grow in my faith throughout high school. They have also opened up many doors when it comes to college and making connections with people. There have been numerous times that I have already connected with Catholic Central grads in college and in the work world. The athletics have also been very impressive at Catholic Central. I have played in the State semifinals in the last two years in lacrosse. While I've attended Catholic Central, many state championships and even national championships have been won in numerous sports. Senior: I love Mercy! I am currently a Senior in the graduating class of 2022. I can't imagine having made a difference choice 4 years ago. I have great friends, feel extremely supported by the staff and teachers, and enjoy al of the activities and clubs I am in. Mercy creates the schedules so that student's can take whatever classes they choose, and most clubs are student run and created. Students have a huge leadership role within the school, and the sense of community is strong. It is not hard to find your group of people. There are classes for any student, from AP science and math classes to Directing and Acting classes. Students find their place within the school easily. The theatre department is amazing and nearly completely student run. The academic support for students is amazing as well. Junior: Been going here for 5 years now, I started in the academy as a young kid not knowing anybody and felt very intimidated by the huge building I had just set foot into. Within the first 20 minutes at orientation I had met some of my best friends. This school is fantastic but its the luck of the draw when it comes to teachers and how you'll be prepared. Many teachers really care and it shows but some could care less and blow you off. Overall this school offers so much and it has been awesome going into all the co-curriculars as someone new. The athletics is some what under par when it comes to winning but the brotherhood it creates makes us really bond. Parent: After graduating from Plymouth Christian myself, we were very blessed to be in a position to be able to return to Plymouth Christian and send our own kids. Our older daughter graduated last year, we have one remaining, a senior! It has been an such a great experience for us, as parents, that we would not trade. The ability to truly partner with a school, a Christian School, and to watch our kids receive a solid Christian education, preparing for college and an opportunity participate is a successful sports programs as well. Each of our kids have been multi-sport athletes and the gymnasium signage now displays multi-generational records/successes for individuals and teams that play "For Him"! Senior: The Shrine community is unlike any other. Since the school is PreK through 12th grade, many of the older students are able to create bonds with the younger children. The facilities are not the greatest, but it is because the school has been around for many years, so the facilities are historical to the school's culture. I believe that what makes Shrine so special is truly the community that supports not only the parish but the schools. Senior: Overall I have had a great experience at Divine Child. While we have experienced some hick ups throughout the years it has been made very clear in administrations response to them that their number one concern is the students. The sense of community is so strong within the halls that even through the tragedies that have taken place we can and have over come it by being there for each other. The staff provides appropriate accommodations for any circumstances that may arise and have a great relationship with the students that they come across, I can say with 100% certainty that they really care about the students and put their all into their jobs and it really shows. Parent: I have two sons at Monteith. My oldest did Kindergarten through 3rd grade and my youngest has completed Young Fives through 1st grade. I cannot adequately express my gratitude towards the staff & administration. I feel confident in their teachers. Each of them got to know my sons and did their best to differentiate instruction, help them with their struggles, and capitalize on their strengths. The communication is great. There is a feeling of teamwork. I know I can go to anyone at Monteith and will have assistance. My sons have thrived academically and have learned so much about how to be a positive community member within their classrooms. They are learning to be great communicators, to understand themselves, and how to be a caring and kind friend. I am impressed with their dedication to reading outside of the school day and contribute that to their teachers. Parent: We have been with Mason Elementary for five years now with our oldest child. And we will be there with them for another three years with our youngest. To say that the staff is wonderful is an understatement! The staff listens, they care, and they interact with your children as well as the parent /guardian. The staff and administration goes above and beyond for your child’s education. They are very approachable and take time to listen to your concerns. As a parent to a child with a severe food allergy , I do not worry about my child in their care. Mason Elementary provides so much help with the kids: from reading specialist, to speech pathologist, to emotional needs with a social worker , as well as providing resources for kids that do above average in the classroom. Senior: Bethany Christian School has a great environment for kids of all ages. It is a K-12 school, with teachers who care about every student. The staff is very friendly and make every effort to get to know their students and be involved in their student's lives. The music program is amazing. Bethany has several programs of music, and has won several awards. Also, graduates who start college are very prepared. The classes at Bethany are hard, but rewarding. Senior: Bishop Foley was an experience of a life time! I am about to graduate and I have truly loved and valued my time as a Venture. From Friday night football games, to after school clubs, to dedicated teachers, you are getting a truly unique experience in Bishop Foley Catholic! My favorite part about the Foley family was how close I became with my classmates and teachers over the course of 4 years. I truly believe that I would not get this at any other high school. Now why did I give this 4 stars instead of 5 stars? That's due to the somewhat lack of opportunities that a bigger school could offer instead. For example, I am a senior now and I feel like I ran out of AP classes to take by my senior year, where this would not be a problem at a larger school.
