Senior: I came into Nichols as a Junior, and loved the campus and teaching style. There is no NYS regents exams which allows the teachers to spend more time on confusing topics and skip easier ones. Definitely a great education that is preparing for college. The sports are top notch. Nichols has prepared me to play Division 1 lacrosse and introduced me to multiple successful people playing college lacrosse. Although the school prioritizes academics, sports are not pushed aside. The food is amazing, we have wonderful chefs that make great food including a salad bar, grilled chicken, Ice cream machine, juices and whatever the main meal is of the day! The head of school is rational and intelligent, making great decisions to lead the school. Junior: I am a rising senior at Buffalo Seminary currently, and have greatly enjoyed my time here. This school is incredibly welcoming and all of the students and teachers are very encouraging. I've had a very positive experience with my classes, and since SEM offers a very wide variety of courses, it is easy to find classes that interest you. Also, SEM's arts program is very strong, and there are many different opportunities to be involved in the SEM arts community. I have appreciated the efforts to create a more diverse community, but feel that the administration could be doing more to uplift students of color. Overall, I feel very ready to go into college and feel that SEM has given me many opportunities to make my application strong. Parent: Cannot rate this school highly enough. my son transferred in after his sophomore year. The school at large, teachers, admin, students alike all welcomed him with open arms and really made him feel like part of the brotherhood immediately. He was an athlete and honor roll student. he is now playing D1 collegiate athletics and feels very confident going into it because of the preparation both in the classroom and on the field, that canisius provided. Senior: The Park School of Buffalo provides me with a lot of things that I find crucial in the sense of an academic upbringing. There’s an incredible art program that helps encourage students to pursue their own creativity. This is paired with a hand tailored schedule that is made to suit the individuals interests. While yes, there isn’t much choice given when you have to pick math, there’s an extensive list of English, history, and electives one can look into taking. Not only this, but they provide the student an opportunity to try an “independent study”. A student can come up with a specific topic they wish to learn about and ask a teacher to make it into an independent study, then giving the student the opportunity to learn about a topic that is not generally taught within the school. While of course certain things could use adapting, like the lunch menu, the school as a whole is relatively very enjoyable and is a good place to grow an individuals skills and talent.... Senior: I'm a senior at Christian Central Academy and have attended since kindergarten, I love it! The teachers really care about the students and the culture of the school is one of growth and love. It is an academically rigorous school that promotes college readiness and AP classes of which I've taken many. There are small classes, rarely more than 20 students so everyone gets one one one time with the teachers and no one is overlooked. It has a safe and positive environment and I'm so grateful for my parents enrolling me here. Being a small school our sports teams have much fewer numbers but the student sections are filled with cheers and our high school girls varsity basketball team made state playoffs last year! Extracurriculars like music and clubs are promoted and everyone looks forward to (being in/watching) the high school play every year. Senior: Nardin is a great private school that offers so many opportunities for their students. The teachers actually want to see they’re students succeed and are always willing to talk with the kids if there is an issue! The small class sizes allow for teachers to truly connect with the kids and the one on one treatment with teachers is great. Also, the school does focus on the children’s well being outside of the classroom, such as mental health and over all happiness! Mental health is extremely important to look after especially with young teenage girls and Nardin does a great job with handling it ! I could never imagine myself somewhere besides Nardin.... Senior: Being a part of this school has been a fundamental stepping stone in my life. Sacred Heart academy has not only taught me curriculums but has also taught me how to be a part of a community. Senior: My experience at Lancaster High School has been great! In my opinion, the faculty and staff here do a great job at creating an adaptable and supportive learning environment. There's almost an endless amount of resources for whatever any of the students here need, which is extremely helpful when trying to get work done. All of the students are provided with a wide range of opportunities, including five educational academies and many different electives. My school has much more to offer than just the core classes, which is one of the favorite things about my school. I personally participate in the PLTW academy, which has allowed me to explore the things I'm actually interested in, such as technology and engineering. Senior: Mount has provided me with a fantastic education, supportive teachers and great friends. I’m very thankful to have received such wonderful skills, including writing, public speaking, performing, and even business skills as a co-CEO of my own business. On top of this, I’ve made so many memories and have been blessed to watch the school adapt to the ever-changing society of today, with new resources for students and down time around mid-day, models after European classrooms, and a full-time therapy dog. The only reason that I didn’t rate my school five stars is because of the lack of empathy that some students have. At an all girls school, some can be malicious, and seek out to start unnecessary drama. On occasion, teachers aren’t always as helpful as desired. Junior: i have been attending Depew High School since kindergarten, and i would not want to be anywhere else! I believe the education given to us by our teachers is amazing and they put so much time and effort to help us grow. Our athletic programs have helped me survive all the tough times. I participate in sports such as volleyball and cheer. Our coaches put their heart into helping us get better at what we love. We may not always win when it comes to sports, but we sure give it our all. My favorite part of the year would be spirit week. Depew has had the biggest rival in all of WNY against Lancaster for 50 years. The big football game and assembly is something i am so proud to be apart of. Since we are not a huge school, most teachers and students will know each other or be acquainted some how, which makes us all a closer family. Senior: Cardinal O'Hara High School is full of kind students and caring teachers. It offers classes for students of all levels, including Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and classes for many different interests, such as an advanced painting class, culinary, and engineering. The teachers really care about their students and their success. When in-person schooling was put on pause during the pandemic, the teachers went above and beyond and taught over Zoom every day with enthusiasm and understanding regarding the difficulty of the new learning methods. Alum: I went to cheektowaga high school as a incoming junior. I didn’t know anyone and I was scared that I would end up with no friends and have a hard time in the new environment. I was wrong. On my first day I felt very welcomed by both students and staff. I ended up having a little group of friends that stuck with me and still are my friends after graduation. The teachers made learning the easiest it could be while having to deal with covid and online schooling. It felt like they really cared for us to learn. The counseling was also a plus, they had very flexible counseling and you could pretty much walk in whenever and either have a small wait time or be able to talk with someone right away. Senior: Western New York Maritime Charter School has been a fantastic school of choice for me and hundreds of other students for the past few years. The environment created at this school is unlike any other. The entire student body are enrolled as jrotc students which allows the staff to teach us valuable lessons missing in other schools. The biggest of these is leadership, with many teams and almost all day to day operations being overlooked or run via these respected and trusted students. The school also has some of the best staff I've encountered at any school ever. very rarely is there an unliked or ineffective teacher.
