Parent: I can't believe the incredible transformation my daughter has made in her first year at Kent Denver. Her 6th grade experience continued her positive academic trajectory, in tandem with developing communication and social-emotional skills. It has been amazing to watch her build her confidence, both inside and outside of the classroom. Socially, she found friends quickly and easily (she did not know many other students), and academically, was encouraged to find her voice and self-advocate for herself. Senior: Overall my experience at Regis has been transformative. Though freshman year was a bit rough, as I moved here before freshman year so I knew absolutely no one, the community is absolutely amazing. I met people rather quickly and everyone was very welcoming to me. I especially love the atmosphere of the swim team and all the different retreats. I would like to see some aspects that differ between the girls division and boys division to change. The boys have much newer facilities, it seems as though the girls division is always having maintenance issues. I would also like to see some more classes be co-divisional. Senior: I really enjoyed my time at Mullen! Overall, I think mullen is a great school. There is a loving community of peers and teachers. Mullen also is extremely helpful with the college process and made it much less stressful. I think schools can always improve and one of the only things I wish Mullen did different was offer more elective classes like fashion design or American Sign Language. Mullen is coming out with more elective options for next school year however I just never got to experience that. Senior: My overall experiences being a student at East High school has been beyond wonderful. I had rough start to high school, as I spent my freshman year online during lock down due to the COIVD-19 pandemic. So least to say, starting my first day of in person school in my sophomore year was nerve wracking. Although I was a sophomore, it felt like I was a freshmen all over again. Getting lost and running around the school trying to find my class was how my first day of school went. After that day, I remember feeling upset and worried about the rest of my school year. Though thankfully, I had the opportunity to see East High School's wonderful community blossom. Parent: We moved to Denver 8 years ago to enroll our oldest son in Kindergarten at Denver Waldorf. What drew me to Waldorf was the experiential learning and a ton of outdoor activities offered. Now that my three sons, ages 13, 11 and 9 are all enrolled, my favorite part of the school is the community. We all came to Waldorf because we wanted something better for our children than what was offered elsewhere. We are told by neighbors and strangers how well-spoken our boys are. I don’t think we can attribute all of this to ‘nature’, ‘nurture’ is something they are receiving at home AND at school. They are part of a movement that is desperately needed now more than ever. The teachers are kind and thoughtful, and they really get to know each child. In their grade school they typically have the same teacher for at least 4 years. Alum: Denver School of the Arts was overall a very enriching experience when it came to furthering my skills in the arts. The resources provided for this course of study were phenomenal. The main concerns I would raise for any incoming students are that: #1) While this school can be very beneficial for someone looking to follow the arts, it can often be difficult path for someone who has decided that the arts are not for them. Many students decide that they would rather pursue a different passion in life by the time they are seniors. This can make the highly art centered environment fairly hard to be a part of. Especially since there are no sports! #2) The school spirit is generally lacking. While there are many school sponsored events that students can attend while enrolled at DSA, many of them revolve around individual art forms. Sophomore: Honestly i really like my high school experience here at DSST Mont view, they offer so many college opportunities, there's so many clubs for so many interests, sports , diversity & inclusivity, advanced classes and prepare you overall for college. I'm black and Muslim growing up I've been to 8 different schools but I've never been as accepted by my community and have as many friends as i did in this school. The only 2 things I would say is the the school and system is very controlling considering we are going into college independent, and the school doesnt have many school lunch options that are vegetarian or halal. but overall i love it here if I had to switch i wouldn't!... Sophomore: DJDSis the most amazing school, home, family, and community. Going to this school has allowed me to flourish in ways that could never be replicated anywhere else. Secularly, the teachers are so invested in my learning and will always find a time to meet with me to go over stuff and genuinely want me to succeed. In regards to the Judaic program, It has allowed me to discover God and spirituality, without ever telling me what I should believe. The classesmerely push you to challenge your own beliefs and think deeply about the subject so every student can benifit.Most importantly, DJDS has given me my second family I can walk down the hallway everyday and be surrounded by people I can count on. DJDS transformed me from a timid 6th grader who was nervous to ask a teacher to fix my grade. Senior: I've been a student at Mile High my entire life. It is a small Christian school so it's not always able to offer the resources and clubs that other schools might have. I would love to see more funding go to arts, clubs, electives, and staffing as opposed to athletics. Junior: Valor Christian High School is a private school. Valor is a smaller school, with the average class size of approximately 250-300 students. Valor has a very strong music, drama, dance and arts programs within its conservatory. Valor also offers a strong Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) and college preparatory classes. Unlike local high schools, Valor does not allow freshman to take AP classes unless you have an exception (e.g., math or language placement at the AP level). As a Christian school, 3 years of bible classes are required as part of the curriculum. For those seeking to boost their GPA with Honors, AP or Dual-Credit classes, note that there are no such offerings for the required bible classes or freshman seminar class. Alum: DSST: Cedar is a perplexing case. Its academics are by far amazing! While, no, a student enrolled here will not have the same amount classes to choose from when compared to a student at a flagship DPS High School, the classes offered are still interesting and especially useful for acquiring college credit. Cedar should be especially proud of its college preparedness program, students are given time by the school to submit applications and work on everything regarding the college admissions process. They meet with advisors that actually know them, well. All, in, all DSST Cedar should be proud of itself, its academics are phenomenal, its classes interesting, and will prepare students for college. Yet, in every other possible aspect, DSST Cedar fails. It should not be proud of its extracurricular selection, with the school barely able to support its clubs, the school tends to aire on the cluiqe-er side, and with poor facilities outside classrooms. Senior: At Northfield High School, my overall experience has been great. School activities are outstanding and no school does school spirit quite like ours. We get to do events like color runs and all out spirit week which is so much fun. On the other hand some of the teachers at Northfield do not have strong systems to teach kids all the content they need. Especially in the IB diploma they do not really outline what each course is and so it's hard to know what we need to prepare for. Senior: My experience at Columbine High School has been one of inspiration and hard work. The community around pushes you to your absolute best, you represent Columbine with everything you do!
