Junior: I joined Pine Lake Preparatory this year and my experience had been wonderful! This school has classes that allow me to explore my interests in art+animation and in STEM! This was really exciting to me, and currently, the school is looking to add more semester-long choices for students to explore their interests. The academics are fairly good and the school offers a large selection of AP courses. The experiences I've had with my teachers have been good, I've been able to communicate my needs with them over email, and if I need to meet with one of them about something I've been able to arrange that. In terms of diversity, the school reflects the demographics of the six counties it pulls from. Racially, most of the students are white, but there are a variety of socioeconomic statuses, and there are some clubs for minority students. Senior: Based on the years I have attended Gray Stone Day School, there have been many opportunities for learning and growing as a person. With the multiple changes we have gone through within the years 2017 until the present day, I have learned more about myself within the environment of this school than I have ever learned anywhere else. My experience inside the school has not always been the best due to relationships with friends and even staff members but when brought to the attention of the administration, most of the time, something was done to stop discrimination. As being a white female at Gray Stone there wasn't much to discriminate but the idea of being a female was not always popular amongst some of the students there. When this was brought to one of my teachers, the stop was immediate and I grew more and more every day since. Junior: I had applied and made the decision to come to Early College due to the education opportunities that came with it. No doubt, having the opportunity to achieve an associate degree by the time I graduate high school is phenomenal. On the down side, I had to work through the most academic-related stress I have ever been through (and hopefully ever will). I endured dark thoughts and poor mental health for the sake of my school. In turn, I received outstanding opportunities and a lack of student loans. Now that I moved past my sophomore year (the most challenging bit), I think that every tear, every ounce of frustration I had was completely worth it. Junior: It is a good school with for the most part a loving group of staff and students. The biggest problem the school faces is the admin. The admin are petty and corrupt and won't hesitate to make something fit their specific standards. The school struggles in keeping teachers, which can make it hard to form meaningful connections. Although the diversity is lacking, it is fairly easy to find a group of people to be friends with despite the small class size. The student body is filled of promising individuals and passionate people. There is always something interesting happening and for the most part, coming to school is enjoyable. Despite the competitive classes, most teachers try their best to teach material to their best ability and most have a true passion for their subject and for teaching which really shows. Parent: We've had a wonderful experience at Corvian. We are currently at the high school and are impressed by the teachers and admin there. As a parent of a student with a 504, I've always felt like part of a team with my son, guidance, admin, and teachers to help him get what he needs, while still encouraging him to grow. Any concerns I've ever had about anything have always been listened to and discussed, and now, my child feels comfortable enough to address any problems he's having directly with the adults at the school. I'm forever grateful for the Corvian community. Although this is the first year with a full high school, I love that the students can start their own clubs as long as they can get a teacher to sponsor, and admin to sign off - what a great leadership experience!... Junior: It is a great school filled with many amazing classmates, so I didn't had any problems with finding friends despite the low amount of students. The teachers are very one on one with teaching, so it helps me learn better in general. While it is a school that has cons having no sports or club to apply to, it makes up for that with the various school events throughout the year. Our school's hours are 9 am to 4:30 pm which seems like a bad thing, however we do get more learning in, time dedicated to study and a degree in the end! Alum: I graduated in the class of 2020. I absolutely loved CFA. All of the teachers really care about you and want you to succeed in school and outside of school. I played 3 sports and they would even come to my games! I really enjoyed the atmosphere, it was small enough to know everyone but big enough to have sports teams/theatre programs. The head of school is also super approachable and sweet, just like everyone else there! I love the fact we had chapels once a week and a bible class to really dive deep in the word! Parent: North Hills is a small private Christian school. It's expensive, but they do offer scholarships for those that qualify. My daughters have attended there for 9 years. They do a great job of intertwining the spiritual and academic needs together for the students. They have a good athletic program for a private school that has definitely improved each year. We have had problems with some teachers not being good teachers, but the school has done a good job of hearing from students and parents and making the necessary changes. We have had some great teachers at NHCS that have taught my daughters not only their academics but great life lessons. I do think there is room for improvement as far as academic advising and preparing students for college. I would like to see more college test prep and more standardized testing options at our school for our high school students getting ready for college. Senior: When I was first here in freshman year, I believe our school grade was an F. Now ending my senior year, Our school grade is a B. I really love how much the school has developed into a better place. I also really love the staff and people I have met here. Its amazing to see how the people you've known since kids, grow up to be something in life. I am grateful for the field trips, the football games, and volunteering work that helped me feel involved in my school. The best week in school is Bell week. We have a rival school, A.L Brown, who we play against every year in football, in fight for a bell. This tradition goes years back and we are known for our rivalry.
