Senior: I really have enjoyed my time at Marquette. Overall it is a great school that I am glad I am able to graduate from. Though I have made many lasting memories and have enjoyed my time, Marquette can sometimes be not so great. During my sophomore year we went through 2 geometry/trigonometry teachers and were left without a geometry teacher for about a month during the second semester before a replacement was found. I would say the amount of new teachers and the constant changing of teachers would be Marquette’s biggest fault. They’re really not the greatest at being able to keep their teachers and I have found that quite troublesome. Senior: Chesterton High School is a great high school, and I am thankful to have the opportunity of graduating from here. They have amazing opportunites for everyone and have supportive staff and faculty. Something about Chesterton High School that could be better, though, is offering more STEM based courses. I want to go into a STEM career field, and my options are very limited on taking courses to support this goal of mine. Another thing to improve on is the encouragement of the STEM courses offered. I am the only female in my Princepals of Engineering class, and it would be awesome to get some diversity in there! I do not think many students even know what the STEM courses offered are or what you do in them. Some better advertising, or just information about them in general, should be administered.... Niche User: VCA offers an amazing Christ center education, definitely different from any public school. The friendships are genuine, the staff is wonderful, personable and care about the students, the small teacher to student ratio allows this. A few down sides to VCA are that they do not offer many electives, nor a dual credit college programs. The lunch program comes from the public school program and is terrible! A small school like this could offer home cooked healthy meals and snacks. They have a good athletic program, but due to size of the building there aren't any locker rooms or showers. They are not very diverse but represents the non-diverse Valparaiso community and the school does not offer a bus service or have buses, which makes away sport games and field trips a big mess of car pulling. Alum: Portage Christian School is a safe environment where students learn character as well as academics. Senior: My experience at New Vistas so far is pretty decent. I came to New Vistas because a large school setting wasn't treating my mental health very well. I recommend this school to anyone who needs 1 on 1 time with their teachers. I would like the school to bring vocational and work study programs to help our success outside of high school.... Alum: I went there as a child and it was definitely an experience! I had a lot of good and bad memories there. Most of the staff were very nice but some were a little on the bad apple side as well. Senior: Personally, I loved the students and staff at my institution! From what I witnessed, everyone attempted to be inclusive and fought for the things that mattered the most. As a student, I felt heard and understood and I'm positive there are other students who feel the same. One thing I aspire to change, if possible, is the lack of interaction between students. My opening sentences stated that everyone was inclusive, which is not untrue, however, not everyone was included in all activities. This mainly being because the students didn't know much nor did they try to. The activities were certainly inclusive, however the relationships between students created an uncomfortable atmosphere, making people - myself included - feel unincluded at times.... Alum: My experience was good. I feel like they can do better with a lot of stuff such as stop focusing on the wrong things and prepare us for our future. They can also have more activities for us students to participate in at this point there are only two sports. Besides all of that they have very great teaching teachers they know what they are doing and they make sure that we understand they don't just move on. My years at Lighthouse was at first hard because I came in not focused, but I realized how important it was to pay attention and get worked done.
