Alum: I went to Newton for 8 years and truly loved it. I made my greatest friends for life from the small and tight-knit community. A highlight for me personally were the sports teams because I played 3 seasons and really enjoyed the competitive spirit, yet loving family energy of the teams. The academics were rigorous from day one and now as a college student I am prepared and confident, especially in writing and history. My teachers, too many to name, turned out to be some of the most transformative people in my teenage years and I learned so much from them. The NCDS traditions - conge, gouter, retreats - are unlike any other and I will cherish them forever. I love that place and the people from the bottom of my heart and I attribute so much of my growth as an individual academically, athletically, and spiritually to Newton. Senior: I have had an excellent experience at St. John’s Prep. Although I have experienced many challenges, the school has done an excellent job in preparing me for college. Senior: I am a current Newman School Senior and I have loved being apart of this community! It really does feel like family. Everyone from the students to the teachers really do want to see us succeed. The school offers several clubs and creates such an easy space to start your own and add to the benefit of the community. Being located right in the city is another major bonus. We have easy access to several forms of transportation and when the weather is nice, often times students go and have lunch outside. Sometimes teachers take us outside for class too which is always nice. The school is also very flexible with students schedules who have high demand extra curricular activities outside of school. Which is nice for students who would otherwise only have the option of home school and don't necessarily want to do that. Alum: Going to BC High was easily one of the best decisions I/my parents have ever made. It is truly a school that goes above and beyond, with an unbreakable sense of community and brotherhood. Between the incredible teachers that truly care and the excellent guidance department, the opportunities are endless if you take advantage of them. BC High has made me a more well-rounded student and person, and I do not know where I would be today without this school. The friendships you make at this school will be some of the best and most long-lasting ones you will ever make, even through college and beyond. The location and commute on the T and interaction/proximity to the city makes every student a responsible, independent, and, well-adjusted member of society way before they are expected to be. Senior: I am a rising senior girl and I have attended Malden Catholic since my freshman year. I started freshman year at my local public school, but in search of harder classes and more opportunities, I transferred to MC. And I firmly believe I found just what I was looking for. While it is true that my class is only the second girls class to go through the girls side, MC has treated us well. The classes are engaging and rigorous and are preparing us well for college. In fact, AP classes are offered since freshamn year. Our athletics are also very strong. This past school year we had several teams make it to championships and finals. In fact, our boys varsity basketball team won the state championships. One opportunity I engaged in this past year was the XBSS retreat which is a 4-5 day retreat in Connecticut in which 7 students represent the school, grow spiritually, and advance there leadership skills. Senior: The academics are excellent, at least if you're an honors/advanced/AP student. In CP classes, students often don't care about grades and are very distracting and immature. Most teachers are great people and will spend extra time helping you if needed. Athletics are a big part of life here at AC, unfortunately boys sports get way more spectators than girls. Nearly all students go to the boys football/hockey/basketball/baseball games which are very fun, lots of school spirit. But we don't have a track, a real football field, or a very big gym. The social scene is comprised of "friend groups." Make good friends freshman year and stick with them. People go out often after school together and on the weekends. There's mixing between grades and boys/girls for friends. The Catholic culture here is negligible. Expect daily prayers, mandatory Mass, etc. but not much in terms of genuine faith. Senior: This school offered a lot of support during the pandemic. Students were able to speak about their feelings and their opinions were valued. This school made being on zoom very interesting and educational. This school has raised me well and disciplined me with understanding on why having great behavior is beneficial to you and others. It is very diverse and has a lot of students coming from Haitian decent. There are lots of African-American teachers, the students feel comfortable seeing the amount of representation. This school is competitive in sports and encourage kids to participate in gym. Students do lots of hands on projects and work outside, and gardening. Works Here: Working at MV has been awesome. It's low stress, and the focus is 100% on the child. I have a history teaching in public schools, and the work environment is a night and day difference. It's great to have the tools needed to be successful as an educator. The work culture is great to be in too. Our entire staff is just so friendly and welcoming, and we work well together. The teachers here really have a passion for education and our students. It's so wonderful to be around. Students here at MV are excited to learn, and are given the tools to be successful.
