Alum: I had a wonderful experience at Commonwealth. As a shy middle school student, I was advised by a family friend to look into small schools during my high school search. The community at Commonwealth helped me find my voice, connect closely with my friends and teachers, and learn about myself in a controlled environment. Although a large portion of my experience was heavily affected by the pandemic and the school chose some subpar ways to foster longtime school traditions, I still consider what I gained from my four years to have outweighed my losses. Parent: My son is a Sophmores at BUA, and we could not be happier. Students truly are kind and curious, and very participatory in co-creating their experience. The teachers are phenomenal, and can challenge the students on many levels. They are also kind and interesting. The staff and administration are among the helpers in the world. Junior: I LOVE CA! As a current day student, I don’t have many regrets about my choice to go CA. The academics are manageable but rigorous, super friendly community, and most teachers really put in an effort to connect with students. CA is centered around common trust basically meaning that we all have trust in each other and put effort to foster a community. With that said, that is the case about 90% of the time. I’ve had a couple negative experiences with teachers and students who simply just don’t adhere to the common trust. Parent: Our children moved from a local State school to BISB three years ago. From day one the school has provided a first class academic and social education, helping children become well rounded members of the community. Parent: We are so happy to have found ISB! Our three children are in lower, middle, and upper school, so we've seen a good cross section of the entire school experience. The lower school bilingual program is a real advantage - a good balance of English and French - and it's also accredited, which is what we were looking for. Other schools offer full immersion, but at the expense of learning English and they are not accredited. The middle school does a great job of attending to well-being in addition to continuing the bilingual opportunities. Our older son chose to take more French classes in middle school when he was younger, but our middle son is opting for more English. Both have had good experiences. Our older son is currently studying for the IB diploma in the Upper School. The level of personal attention he is getting from his teachers and the new college counselor is tremendous and way more than we could have ever expected if we had put him in the local public school.... Senior: I really enjoyed my high school experience in Newton Country Day School, I love the long lasting traditions that are taken seriously by both students and teachers as well as the strong sense of community both in our school and with the greater sacred heart network. My personal favorite thing about our school is the teacher student connections that are fostered here. There is room for improvement, I think the schedule can be modified to allow students to try new things like maybe multiple clubs instead of just one. I also think it is important that all electives receive the same amount of importance, for example chorale and instrumental ensemble should be better advertised and should go on more trips as the school says. Celebrate the arts student with a ceremony similar to that of the sports ceremonies. Senior: I am a senior at Gann Academy. I love the small class sizes, teachers, and tight community. I also love the opportunities I have in STEM to explore with some classes that usually are not offered till the second year of college. That being said, I came to Gann to lose some of the stress a public highschool might have. Even though I still think there is less stress now with the support Gann offers, the school is becoming more high pressure each year. They discourage free periods while encouraging clubs/sports. Though those with extra time on tests are often unable to go to club meeting. This environment, if you let it causes overworking oneself. When I was a freshman, I found I had more time on my hands than in middle school (to be fair a high bar). Now, sophmores take an advanced chemistry class/pre-AP class, that has 2-3 hours of homework a night. Senior: Like any public school, it has its downsides, rowdy students, and poor teachers, however, it truly is one of the best schools on the East Coast. For having around 1800 kids, the average student in the school is incredibly competitive. The higher-level classes are taught very well and the lower-level classes provide a strong basis for success. To really flourish you should seek good teachers, not necessarily the most interesting-sounding classes. Despite it being such a large school, the guidance counselors have been very helpful to me and I have been able to move through the college application process smoothly. You will do best at this school if you are self-driven, get involved in extracurriculars/sports (which are great), and look to find like-minded people. p.s There are also fair food options around the school cuz public school food sucks.... Parent: The admistration is highly productive. They did not lose a day of teaching in the pendemic. They has no expereince for the online teaching before the covid hited us. Right after the spring break, online lessons were started as a half day program on Monday. On Wednesday, they switched to a whole day class to fully engage students. They never missed the summer camp and even open the campus much earlier than most other schools still did not know how to open their campus. It truely respect people's choice & rights. Never force anyone to be vacinnated. They teach kids critical thinking by allow them to listen to all perspectives instead of teaching kids to one direction which would altimatly destoy the country. Teachers are really caring about kids and would approach parents regarding how to help the kids become better. Not the fake love elsewhere. Great school with true loves, caring and common sense. Senior: I have absolutely loved my experience at MC. From the start, everyone has always been so friendly and welcoming. I have never seen anyone with a frown in the classrooms and the teachers always make learning fun.
