Junior: Scholarship, Community, and global responsibility, thats what Vermont Commons is about. A small school, about 100 students and 25 faculties, that is college prep highly focuses on hands on learning and adapting to different learning styles. The ratio of students to teacher makes it so that students can get help easily. Because the school goes from 6th -12th grade it is very common to see juniors and senior being friends with the middle schoolers. The school also focuses on leadership, so there are many many opportunities when a student can lead other students and where their options matter heavily for example the student body government. Students with all different personalities, goals, and needs are met here in Vermont Commons School. But since the school belongs in a small state that people mistakenly think is in Canada, diversity is especially poor.... Read 15 reviews

Senior: I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at South Burlington High School. Overall, I received a well-rounded, thorough education, though I think I could have learned more about things like personal finance that are necessary to be a good adult. The teachers and administration are so kind and helpful, and it felt like I was supported through my four years inside the building. I wish I had participated in more school-wide events because I missed out on the South Burlington family. I met some of my best friends here, and I have so many good memories of having fun and learning. The AP curriculum is wonderful, and there are a variety of courses for all of your interests, including a robust visual and performing arts curriculum. Works Here: The teachers and the community offered at Rice are top-notch! The advantage of a smaller school is that it allows the teachers to truly customize the learning for each individual. I like that they still use textbooks in classes and still expect students to do homework. Plus I feel that Rice gives students opportunities they wouldn't have elsewhere - competitive athletics, field trips, music and art programs, lots of extracurriculars. It's worth considering.... Parent: My three children attend Lake Champlain Waldorf School, and we have been so pleased with their education and the community. Each one of our kids has such different needs, interests, strengths, and challenges, and somehow the approach meets them individually so well -- they are each thriving in their own particular way. It's a rich, experiential education with plenty of outdoor time every day, and an opportunity to really connect with their teachers. Their teachers truly KNOW them, and often reflect back to me aspects of my own children that I might not see on my own. Junior: As an upcoming Senior at this school I have chosen to change schools because of the community and just changes I've experienced at the school. Being there for 3 years in a row can really change you and I don't think I've gotten the college prep that I feel I need. Junior: Currently after the pandemic my school resides in an old Macy’s shopping mall. The experience is one I never imagined. Our school was shut down to our old building having above regulation levels of PCB’s. The transformed Macy’s has fake walls and some class rooms boxed in with and half wall in between; so the echo is intense. Burlington highschool used to have one of the top lunch’s and now I would say bottom fifty as we have converted to the new building. Our access to escalators is really cool not having to walk flights of stairs, but as we have freshman whom last had in-person in seventh grade there a bit childish and like to press the emergency buttons turning the escalator off for the day. Our faculty is of course doing there best to stay cheerful in our windowless space and our administration is run by three wonderful woman.... Read 119 reviews

Niche User: This school has the most amazing teachers they are so supportive and kind, on Wednesday we have morning meeting and at the end of the meeting we all say "peace love respect for everyone". it is such a peaceful school and it has a beautiful garden that the students get to help plant. at the end of the year the whole school go's to north beach for a day. the building is very beautiful, and after you get to know everyone it feels like your second family, the library has so many amazing books and when I was sad i could just sit in there and read a book and it would make me so much better and I 100% recommend this school... Parent: Our 5 year old son started at VT Day School this year. The experience so far has been incredible, both for him as a student and for us as parents. He loves the project based learning approach, and is excited to go to school every day. The diversity of the curriculum and the knowledge of the teachers keeps him engaged and enthusiastic to learn. The smaller class size allows for individual attention that compliments his learning style. Parents are kept extremely well informed, and we very much feel part of the community.
