Middle school student: The overall Hopkins feel and culture is really connected, like a tight knit community, yet the immersion into this community I felt as a new student was fantastic. The academics and teachers, inclusivity, diversity are all beyond par. While some of our sports are not as successful as other schools, the athletic culture is still prevalent, and we have been great in sports like tennis and soccer, among others. Senior: I am a rising senior this year at Greens Farms Academy and I came into the school as a sophomore. Even though COVID definitely impacted my experience, the teachers were more than exceptional when it came to stepping up to the challenge. The academics at the school are definitely rigorous, but the teacher's involvement after school helps out a lot for students having trouble. Senior: Best part of my experience was definitely getting pushed to grow and become the young woman I am today. Worst part of my experience was definitely all of high school; it was fun but compared to other schools we do not get nearly the same experience. While I understand we trade off for a better education I would have liked to see more focus on sports and more overall school spirit. We never get approved for field trips or fun spirit days and are not allowed to do anything. The rules are definitely very strict, and not in a reasonable way. Senior: Center for Global Studies is the very definition of a school that has a family-like community. Everyone has the chance to be involved in everything, and the air in the halls is always positive. Everyone I've met is and from day 1, always was, kind as welcoming--both faculty and students. Finally, the emphasis on learning in a school that puts a global spin on everything, with the reminders everywhere you go and in everything do that you are not the center of the world but instead a member of the human race who should work to understand and celebrate both others and yourself....is very meaningful. Junior: The institution definitely has a highly familial atmosphere which I really enjoy! You are able to develop a personal relationship with all the teachers, and nearly all the students are warm and welcoming too. Parent: My son is a senior at Fairfield Prep. I believe he has received the best education he could have had over the past four years. Prep continually impresses me with the learning environment they have created for students. The teachers are creative, outgoing, highly educated, and genuinely care about the students' overall well-being. Parent: I am not going to sugar coat my review because it doesn't help a parent that is going to spend money to send their kid there; so here it goes. (1) The Distinguished Scholars Program and High Honor classes are very good. (2) The teachers are good and help kids when needed. (3) The general classes have much to be desired. Kids laugh about getting bad grades and spend a lot of time on their phones (TikTok, Snap Chat etc.) and it is hard to learn in those classes. Even if your child is a high honors kid or honors kid; they will attend certain classes with general kids. (Art, Religion). (4) A lot of kid's think everything is racist. They will label it on everything. (5) The women at ND that handles the admission process is the nicest and is very helpful. She is a pleasure to deal with and will make the process go smoothly. Alum: I liked the opportunities that were awarded to me in the Aerospace School at Fairchild. I was able to work 2 summer internships at Sikorsky Aircraft Company as a Aircraft Mechanic. I was also able to take a years worth of dual enrollment college courses which saved me a lot of money and stress in college, including but not limited to Calc 1-3, Physics 1&2, English 1&2, Chem & more! Lastly, in my senior year I worked on a capstone project that helped prepare me for my senior capstone project in college at Georgia Tech! Alum: My time at Kolbe Cathedral HIgh School was short but sweet. Kolbe Cathedral High School was an amazing experience in just one year I became more knowledgeable about college than I have been for my entire college career. Students at KCHS showed their "cougar pride" wherever they are. I was a student athlete and being a student athlete meant that I was able to witness this "cougar pride" first hand. Alum: I loved my time at Fairchild honestly. Graduating as the 1st class with all 4 years because the school was brand new was such a unique high school experience that introduced us all to staff that treated us like we were their own kids. I'm sure it was quite the adjustment for the teachers who were teaching in a brand new high school for the first time, but honestly, you would've never known that they were new to this. They treated us and taught us so well and I've continued to take what they've taught me and add onto it as I dive into my career as a healthcare professional. Senior: A high school focusing on the manipulation of data. To me, it was a very much new experience, coming from a small private middle school with less than 60 students. Starting off as a freshman, I had no knowledge of the norm at a public high school or rather, the American society. I also lacked the knowledge of how a normal high school functions when it comes to turning in assignments, how schedules are managed, how the cafeteria worked, etc. It was quite harsh at the start, both academically and socially. But gradually, I adapted into such environment. I came to accept how great this school is. Being a multi-racial school, I did not have to experience discrimination or bullying. Senior: P-TECH was essential to my college/future readiness. As a school within a school, it was often hard to stand apart and have our own facilities. However, this past year we became our own independent school (though still in the same building), which allowed for all P-TECH specific classes. As a freshman, you are offered the opportunity to take an abundance of college classes through our local community college on one of three degree paths, which can result in an Associates Degree in that given field of completed successfully. I am on track to graduate with my degree, and that is my biggest accomplishment through P-TECH. They cover the cost of up to two years of college education/experience which very few other schools can offer. With career readiness and college classes under my belt, I feel more than ready to move on to a four-year university. Senior: I am a magnet student at Central and I really enjoy going here. I have the best educational opportunities and access to a lot of outside opportunities that can help me build my resume. I came from a private middle school and I can say that the classes here are just as challenging. I feel that I'm learning a lot. I was able to go to a college debate, have internship and volunteering opportunities, and join clubs that align with what I want to do in the future. I even learned some guitar playing skills my freshman year after never playing an instrument before! I also got to receive some college credits for classes that I would have to pay for in college. There are many different ethnic groups so multicultural nights are very fun and I got to enjoy many different foods and cultures.
