Parent: Current parent here. It’s a special place. Really doesn’t feel like there’s anything quite like it in the city. The character development is part of everything that happens there and it’s incredible. Feels like no teacher or administrator ever misses an opportunity to really “dig in” with the boys. You feel that when you first set foot on campus. Academically, it’s wildly impressive. Boys are working hard on very advanced material, but the model and excellent teaching makes it doable. Sophomore: Overall I have enjoyed my time at Gonzaga. I have participated in sports and other extra curriculars that have increased my sense of community and been enjoyable experiences. Another positive aspect is the extensive opportunities for service such as the homeless shelter that is on Gonzaga as well as immersion trips to underserved areas across the country. One major area that needs to be improved is administration and teachers. Some teachers at Gonzaga are completely unfair, rude, and make learning completely worse. Sophomore: BASIS DC is an academically challenging 5-12 that more than prepares students for college. The classes offered are significantly above the rigor of other schools, this, meaning AP exams beginning as early as middle school. My favorite part of the school is the responsibility with which students are given. High school students are allowed to leave campus for lunch and explore the downtown DC area. Parent: I'm a 2017 & 2019 parent. My children are very different from each other and both had wonderful experiences at Washington Latin MS and HS. My introvert was very supported and and found great teacher mentors, and now as an adult, recognizes fondly about how above-and -beyond they went to connect with her. They're still in touch! Academically, she was completely prepared for college, did very well, and graduated with honors. My extrovert had test anxiety, was well-supported, had great relationships with her teachers, and made life-long friendships. As for me, my only complaint wasthe sometimes very late feedback when issues arised, but overall, my children loved their school, were well prepared for college, and now, speak of Washington Latin even more fondly in retrospect.... Senior: Templeton Academy is a great PBL school, and it does an excellent job of preparing students for the world. The school's foundation is solid and supportive; it's also very open and relies on students' trustworthiness. It mostly succeeds in engaging and challenging students academically. The teaching methods are hands-on and encourage social and academic participation. The teachers are great and always helpful; they learn about each student and build connections. Although the school has its advantages, it also has some disadvantages. Staffing is not always consistent, and the location is in a busy downtown DC area, so safety when entering and exiting the building is not always guaranteed. The school is still in its early stages and is still working out its issues. Overall, Templeton Academy is a well-built school that encourages learning and strives to do its best for its students by providing them with the best education and experience to face the world and easily adapt to college.... Parent: My child goes to PK-3 here and it's been a great experience. Hardly muttering incoherent short sentences, we've initially had a doctor mention concerns of possible speech delays. Now, our child is talking none stop and the only child in class who's starting to read words already. The teachers there have helped tremendously in building up the social skills needed for our child to grow. The fact they teach in both Hebrew and English is a great plus. Senior: I think this school is really promising and a great thing for Muslim kids to have. The only thing I wish to see change is more activities, sports, and events to be made and done by the school and administration, and not all have to be done by the students. Student-led activities are great but they're not permanent also they can be too much responsibility on the students. I think its crazy that there is not even one sport for the girls and that for high school we don't even have PE. Also just in general we should have more permanent clubs and activities set in stone by teachers and admin, I remember before we used to have field day and festivals set by the school. Alum: when i went to kipp there wasn't a lot of diversity except in the faculty. I had fun in middle school even on the bench. teachers when i went there were smart and made the work easy to remember. i would say KIPP is one of those schools where it would be really hard to get awful grades in and stay back in.
