Alum: It was academically challenging but the teachers are very good at helping! This school got me college ready, and provided me with a tight nit community of people who I can still contact for aid today. However, due to it's location, size, and other factors, the school is less than diverse. Senior: Challenger Middle School was a nice middle school to go to. Being taught at a rural elementary school, Challenger provided a decent transition to a suburban lifestyle, fairly good academics, and a wonderful faculty. Much of the administration was average, mostly carried by the excitement and will of the teachers, librarians, counselors, etc. The high school readiness was a but stale because of a lack of high school transition classes during 8th grade, but was overall a good experience from being an adolescent to becoming a teenager.... Alum: An incredible school with the best teachers I have ever known. They treat each child as an individual and strive for their growth and cultivation. Though some aspects of the student life, such as diversity or culture, may be a bit lacking, the academics and foundation of the school make up for it. They strive to teach their students and to prepare them for higher education. If your student is passionate about school and pursuing their education with fervor, TCA is the place to be. Alum: Not knowing anyone at this new school made it really difficult for me to fit in and make friends. At first I would get to know the teachers and they were extremely welcoming of me, knowing that I was a new student who was shy and nervous about being in this new environment. Being from a completely different state, I felt out of place because most of these students knew each other from previous years. Senior: I like the people at DCC and the fact that there are multiple niches to fit into here instead of just the stereotypical jocks, nerds, and cool kids. You can be a part of a club like FBLA and still be a very good football player! I like most of the teachers here, although the math department specifically could be improved. The teachers who teach AP classes are very knowledgeable and many of them hold graduate degrees in their subject. Unfortunately, AP classes are being phased out but I think with more schools accepting the IB curriculum, it isn't necessarily a bad thing. More sports could be added, as ice hockey, lacrosse, and field hockey are three main ones that aren't represented. Despite this, I am an athlete and love our strength and conditioning program. Our volleyball, basketball, and football teams are very competitive, however, attendance at these games is very low and school spirit could be higher. Parent: Excellent education. If your child is focused and loves to learn, this school is amazing. Class sizes decrease as students move from elementary to middle school, and then again from middle school to high school. Elementary school students have PE, Music and Art EVERY DAY! Senior: We only have one middle school in the district and five elementary schools. So all of the sudden there’s a ton of kids you’ve never met. You might recognize them from local competitions but now they’re in your classes and you can sit with them at lunch. It was a really neat experience. But I also think that the student body is way too big for the building. And although the teachers all did an amazing job handling 30+ middle schoolers in each class, it felt crowded and cramped.... Senior: Lewis Palmer High School was hands down the best school I have ever attended. I first attended this school my sophomore year and right from the start I was given great opportunities for classes like Astronomy and Self Defense, both of which I had never heard before. The atmosphere of the school is also very positive and there are always peers or teachers to help guide you in the right direction. The food is also phenomenal since they not only provide a hot lunch line of food like orange chicken and cheesy breadsticks, but also a snack line for food like instant ramen and French fries in case you want to buy something small. Beyond this the counselors are also very helpful and while they are sometimes unavailable they dot here best to provide as many opportunities for scholarships and schools as possible. Senior: The Village is an amazing school and my favorite part has always been the teachers. At the Village, the teachers are there because they love their job. They strive to help students in their academic journey and if one is having trouble, they truly try to help them to the best of their abilities. I have always felt that I could approach a teacher if I was having trouble and never felt afraid to ask questions. Senior: I was a student of Calvert Academy Homeschooling for two years and overall my experience was great! Unlike any public school, I was able to work at my own pace and get all of my work done thoroughly. If I had questions, emails and phone calls with administration were professional and efficient. Senior: This school not only provides a phenomenal education, but it also provides unique and non evasive ways of building your relationship with Christ. Senior: Liberty has been a lot of fun. The programs and classes that are offered here are so much more than any other high school I've heard of. Middle School Student: The small number of students allows for more one on one learning time with the teachers, which helps the teachers to make sure that each student is really understanding the material. This, combined with each child's ability to work at their own pace, independently, or with a group, make for a perfect learning environment. Another important aspect is that the school, because of it's small numbers, feels more like a community or family than a school. Each student knows the other students, and the teachers know the students as well, an opportunity that would not be provided at a typical public school.
