Parent: When my kids started school something just didn't seem right. At the time, I didn't know what was wrong, I just knew it wasn't right. After several years we looked at Brookfield Academy and learned that the classical liberal arts education and its teaching of grammar, Latin, Western Civilization coupled with BA's focus on freedom, Singapore Math, economics and its five stars that help develop good character in well-rounded individuals, is what was missing. We switched schools and the kids never looked back. Through their years at BA each child discovered passions in academics, Certamen, fencing, chess, art, and theater in addition to more common sports and clubs. In college now, they are well-prepared beyond their peers in academic foundation, resourcefulness, comfort in speaking directly with professors (thanks to the amazing teachers at BA and their desire to know their students), and have a broad range of knowledge that will serve them in any study they choose. Senior: I am a senior at MCDS, and ever since I came in my sophomore year I've felt like I've found a home. The high school teachers are exceptional; all of my teachers have been creative and super supportive. I feel like all of my teachers really know me (which is a huge perk of MCDS's small size), and whenever I've struggled in a class their doors have always been open. To me, the community is a family because everyone is incredibly nice and caring, and the learning environment that MCDS fosters is extremely collaborative. My experience with the International Baccalaureate program has been engaging--I really love the curriculum's focus on open-ended learning, and I feel like I'm being taught very valuable skills for college and life. The academics can be very rigorous, which I love, and there are almost too many extracurricular options for the small size of our school! Alum: Though I only attended Wayland for two years (my junior and senior year), my time spent there had a profound impact on me as I began by adult life. Wayland's commitment to diversity, community, knowledge, and character truly develops ethical, thoughtful, and adaptive young adults. I met lifelong friends at Wayland, one whom I consider my closest friends to this day. The educators at Wayland are top notch and are committed to facilitating the growth of their students; they build rapport and understanding with their students that often transform into friendships beyond the school years. Alum: The teachers are awesome and so approachable! You can reach out to them with questions about almost anything ranging from academics to outside resources. The facilities are also very nice; the students are basically welcome to use anything and all the projects are supported, as long as a loose set of rules are followed. The social aspect of the student body at the school, however, can be a little iffy because everyone has known each other for a really long time -- sometimes it can be difficult on new kids to join the community.... Senior: I think the best parts of USM would be the teacher student relationship and the high academic standard that remains in place. The teachers are super welcoming and understanding and help you to be the best potential student that you could be. The academic side is certainly rigorous, but teachers are there to help. If you feel the need to grow yourself more, the opportunity to do so is there. I think the worst parts would be friendships. Parent: SJNA is truly an amazing place. Our oldest wasn't a great student at the public school, so we moved him midway through freshman year. He just graduated from SJNA, and is now at a university with a $40k scholarship in aeronautics after his aviation experience at St. John's sparked his love of flying. He learned to play the bagpipes, experienced the challenge of Ultimate Raider in Atlanta, and had more leadership training than we'd ever have found elsewhere. His graduation party consisted of fellow seniors, students who graduated a year or two ago, and underclassmen - a testament to the deep bonds formed by the student body which are unlike anything I've seen elsewhere. Teachers and staff came too - they are the heart of this school, and truly love these students and care for them as family. Sophomore: Brookfield East High School is one of the best high schools in my opinion, partially because of our principal's recent distinction as the National Principal of the Year and the school being the #1 school in WI, but primarily because of the school's dedication to academic excellence. This is exemplified by its comprehensive range of courses, including a diverse selection of honors, AP, and launch courses, facilitated by a committed teaching faculty. I love how we have "HUBs" where we talk about things like academic career planning and many others. The school promotes a culture of acceptance, creating a comfortable space for all. The opportunity for students to initiate and lead clubs further showcases the school's dedication to student empowerment. The school also gives the students opportunities to take a Pre-ACT, PSAT, and the ACT. The school is continually improving and encouraging the students to improve as well through goal setting. Senior: Overall, I have had a good experiance at NCA. Everyone is very nice and its a very good positive enviroment. However I must say that this school is heavly focused on academics, which is good unless your into sports like me. One thing that I love about this school is all the diversity. Its really cool to meet people from all over the world. Also I have made really close friends here because the school is so small. I think thats what makes it so special though, you get to be in a close family enviroment. One thing I will say is that I wish the school was a little more family friendly. For me, I live just in town, however it feels like I live very far away from my family. This is due to the fact that NCA is very strict with their rules. Thats one thing I wish would change. All four could express themselves orally and in writing beautifully. Several of them were very involved in the world class drama program at Shorewood. For many years our house was full of talk, dancing and music as the kid rehearsed or were building sets for the next play. Parent: We moved to Middleton for the school district and have no regrets! Pope Farm Elementary School has given my neurodivergent child an opportunity to thrive and grow in an all-inclusive environment. Our child is challenged in all the very best ways. The staff is constantly looking for areas of improvement (because great is never good enough), communication is transparent and the children here all seem really happy. One thing worth noting is that this particular school applies a great deal of energy to teaching children lifelong social emotional skills. Because of this, our child's math and reading scores have improved greatly as well as her confidence level! Middle school student: I met so many awesome people at WHMS. All/most of the teachers genuinely care about their students. While it starts hellishly early in the morning (buses come around 7:00/6:55), I stay awake because the teachers make engaging lessons. This is also the only middle school in the state that has a mock trial program, which I am proud to be a part of. The extracurricular programs are great. There are a wide variety of sports offered. The music programs are pretty good. Some problems: 1. The gifted and talented program is... mid 2. There's not a lot of passing time - 3 minutes seems like a lot, but sometimes it really isn't enough especially with problem #3. 3. Small lockers. The lockers are TINY. For each class, we have a binder, maybe a notebook and a folder, and we have all of our extra supplies, etc, on the top shelves. As a student who went to Whitefish Bay schools from 5th grade through high school, I believe I was able to gain a well rounded view during my time there. Whitefish Bay has been known for some time as a quiet, affluent neighborhood that prides itself in being the home of one of the best public high schools in the state. Whitefish Bay High School does an exceptional job of getting their students to a college ready level in for years. As a result of being in a wealthy neighborhood, the community has been dedicated to ensuring that students at this school have all the resources necessary to be successful. Senior: My experience at Brookfield Central has been truly special. There are so many opportunities available to students. Not only academic opportunities, but opportunities for personal growth, forming life long connections, and trying new things. My best experiences at Brookfield Central have been in and out of the classroom. I really enjoyed participating in a vast variety of extracurriculars, such as DECA, Key Club, Tennis, however, I enjoyed attending all the school events as well. Many of the teachers at BCHS are super accommodating and kind. While BCHS is a great school, there is a lot of internal competition because it is a competitive high school with many smart individuals, and can be overwhelming at times. Both of my children have benefited from exposure to classmates from different backgrounds and ideas. When our family experienced a tragic loss, the community embraced and supported us as we navigated through it. We've been lucky enough to be the recipients of generous financial aid, and I would encourage families who don't think they can afford tuition to look into this possibility. Parent: My oldest son graduated from SLS 2021 & he continuously states that he feels prepared for college. He attends a Catholic University and he continues to engage in the study habits he learned at SLS. He knows how to delegate his time & workload all because of his experience at SLS. He said he would do it all over again in a heartbeat! As a parent I thought the traditional high school education setting was going to be fitting, but my son saw all that he could benefit from SLS and insisted on going. My two younger sons also saw how much SLS was a benefit for their future & made the choice to attend. I have 1 SLS graduate & 2 son's currently attending SLS (c/o 2023 & 2025) . I love the brotherhood these young men have! The one thing in life people overlook is the aspect of faith building, & SLS will prepare these young men for all of life's challenges.
