Senior: Hawken School is a collaborative environment that develops children as both students and as people. As a student you are encouraged to try new things and learn on a wide variety of subjects. Hawken breaks the mold of a structured high school, and offers classes on niche topics, like a class that walks you through US history from the lens of baseball. For this reason, the teachers and students are truly interested in the subjects, creating an enriching environment. Additionally, Hawken offers a vibrant social life, containing over 100 different clubs, offering many opportunities to meet new people. Freshman: Western Reserve Academy is a really supportive high school that sets up its student with a lot of oppertunities. It has great academic rigor, as well as great sports programs like riflery and wrestling. The school’s teachers are all very supportive and helpful and always encourage students to reach out for help when needed! Parent: My daughter is in her second year at Laurel. She has been lucky enough to spend these years at their Butler Campus. She is receiving the most unbelievable education. Everyday she comes home energized and excited to share everything she has learned and how they used the outdoor environment to teach each lesson. Since we switched schools, I have watched my daughter blossom and become an engaged student who loves learning. I attribute this mainly to the incredible teachers. The faculty works together in such a collaborative way to ensure that each individual student is thriving. As much as my daughter loves her Butler experience, she is very excited to begin her middle school time next year at the Lyman Campus. Parent: The teachers are all so amazing! They are nurturing and you can tell they really have a passion for teaching and growing minds. Parent: We decided to move our daughter to this school due to lack of rigorous academics at a co-ed school in the area. She was upset when we told her about the move, however, once she started school here, she never looked back. She has forged many friendships. She was welcomed by staff and returning students. Clearly girls in middle school can be clicky, and there is some bullying but she is tough and ignored some initial comments that some people made. Parent: We have been at Seven Hills for a number of years starting in PK and now my oldest are in the Middle School. There have been changes through the years that target the changing climate, such as better learning resources, a more holistic approach to each student, parent engagement, new buildings, etc. All of my children love attending The Seven Hills School because of the staff (who genuinely know my kids), the fun clubs offered, and the inclusive students. Other: I have a child at this school, and I'm blown away by the opportunities she has - from classroom teachers to staff members in athletics (particularly Middle School athletics), she has been challenged, cared for, supported, and mentored. Her class is diverse in terms of where students come from, their racial and religious backgrounds, and the things that interest them. As a parent, I like that she is around students with all kinds of viewpoints, many that challenge her own ways of thinking. Alum: So I only went to MVS for 2 years because I moved from Arizona to Ohio. This was my first time going to a private school and I was nervous being a new student. However, on my first day their were many students that came up to me and welcomed me and even showed me my classes. A lot was different than a public school. Their were advisories, lunches were longer, I got out of school later, and it was in such a secluded neighborhood. A couple of the best parts of MVS was that I made a bunch of international friends through the school and still we keep in contact, I was able to have such an awesome advisor, teachers that encouraged me through my classes and supported me, having a college counselor help me throughout the college process and even able to talk to my counselor when I was suffering with homesickness. The worst parts of MVS in my opinion is just that I had no time to rest. I felt very stressed and all over the place most days. Overall I would say that a change for MVS is diversity... Alum: Columbus School for Girls has the most elite collection of teachers whose education ranges from great experience and even to doctoral degrees. Your education and the environment of talented students invokes the desire to learn. My only advice is a reconsideration on an administration level. Rather than hear from your head of school that your education is a “business transaction” or that social issues involving harmful language is to be solved by sitting in a room with the offender where they are allowed to tell the victim how they are wrong, I think careful thought and consideration could be put in to better solve these remarks or dilemmas. The small size of the school can be challenging socially (particularly in younger years), but the overall quality of the school experience makes it worthwhile. Best English and History teachers anywhere. School of Fine Arts and Center for Scientific Research offer students a chance to pick their adventure. Senior: I think that this school really is something special. The moment I stepped through the doors of the St. Xavier High School campus, I felt at home and I felt a part of something bigger than anything I had ever experienced before.
