Parent: Sun Valley Community School is a special place in the Wood River Valley, bordering the Sawtooth mountains! The school takes full advantage of its access to the outdoors. My children enjoy the variety in their school day, as no day is like the other, except for the warm, friendly, and incredilbly talented teachers. As a parent, not having to convince or make a bargain with your child to go to school, or count down the days to the weekend, or the next break is such a relief. Both of my kids love going to school. The parent community is also wonderful and supportive. There are many community-building events that take place throughout the year. They vary from holiday events to community service, to book clubs. Senior: Renaissance High is an excellent school for academically-motivated students. From the renowned International Baccalaureate program to the ISU AA program, students have the full support behind them of everybody from faculty to administration. There is not a better Idaho high school for college preparation! Renaissance also has great facilities - it is designed to reflect many aspects of a college with open ceilings and tables+chairs throughout. With that said, Renaissance is not without its flaws. Some are turned off by the lack of athletics at RHS, which is understandable. The school allows student athletes to compete with their boundary schools, but it's simply a different experience than the other athletes. The culture at RHS is very, very progressive and some may not be comfortable with that aspect either. Some students report feeling left out or even disliked if they do not fit in with this culture. Alum: Boise high overall is a great school. The teachers and staff are all wonderful, and the classes and opportunities are quite varied with expansive options and fields of interests. The club and social scene is also really great, and a good way to meet people and get involved. We also have a variety of sports programs for all different levels and good facilities for use in these areas. The school and student council also work in conjunction to host a variety of events and engagements throughout the year, such as dances and other such activities. Football, baseball, soccer, and other games are frequent, and the student section always shows up with spirit and numbers. Overall everyone at the school is really nice, welcoming, and understanding. The kids are very passionate, smart, and kind, and the teachers and staff are all experienced, understanding and the absolute sweetest. Senior: I've been at Liberty Charter school since 4th grade, and I'll be graduating this week from Liberty. This school has such a great community. Everyday I'm surrounded with teachers, classmates, and friends that make going to school and learning an amazing experience. The rules are a lot stricter here, but they are still reasonable and manageable, and it's all worth it to be part of such a great environment. Parent: We are in our 10th year at Sage and have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. We started in kindergarten, and their IB program provides so much hands-on inquiry-based learning to make school fun for young learners. The teachers are all amazing. There is no school on Fridays, giving students a chance to recoup or catch up on schoolwork, and the teachers and staff have a full day each week to collaborate, prep, and learn. Their middle school and high school programs are rigorous but fair, and do a wonderful job preparing our kids for college, career, and just life in general! Senior: I enjoyed participating with Thomas Jefferson Charter School from Kindergarten through my senior year. I particularly enjoyed the staff's adaptability for each student by providing more difficult and particularly useful skills to use not only for school but for life. This school pushed me to accomplish things I never thought would be possible. I have learned valuable skills and haven't ever felt lost during my transition from High School to college. Parent: A true education partnership with students and families! Our oldest child spent 7 wonderful years at this school (6th-12th), and our youngest is currently a student here. The students are able to dive deeply into real world problems and engage in field studies that allow them to have real connections with what they are learning. I love this! They take part in community service each week and interact with many local organizations. They are given the space and opportunity to find their voice, and use it, and learn to collaborate with other students, teachers and community members. Alum: It is a bit smaller than public schools. Also, people say there are couple other schools in the Boise Metropolitan area that are STEM, etc., that are better. Yet our school continues to outperform every school in the Boise Valley area with a population approaching a million. According to Newsweek, #1 in the Boise Area, #2 in the state of Idaho, #46 nationwide amongst charter schools and 173rd in the entire United States. The school is an International Business School (IBS). They start preparing them in elementary school to be ready when they get the 6th grade they are actually learning 7th grade material. This allows them to work on their senior projects, for instance building web pages for a business and taking college level classes. The teachers and staff have a great relationship with the students. Alum: I had a great experience at Capital high school. All of my teachers seemed to genuinely care about my success, but also about my mental health. I genuinely enjoyed learning in most of my classes because the information was interesting and the teachers almost always did an amazing job teaching the material. The school building itself could use some extreme renovations, as it is very outdated and can feel very gloomy at times. Also the parking lot absolutely needs to be redone because if you end up going a little too fast through the parking lot, your car will be damaged due to the many potholes and bumps. Other that the actual building, the school is great. I enjoyed my entire high school career there because I was able to become involved in yearbook, the dance team, a few musical theater productions, foreign language clubs, AP classes, office assistant positions, and so much more. Senior: Of all the three charter schools I have attended, Xavier Charter School has demonstrated the most advocacy and support towards their students in being successful as exceeding students through their academics and moral characters. XCS is heavily centered around a Classical Education however, if a student wishes to primarily pursue a more Modern or Technical education, I may advise to apply elsewhere. The liberal arts and professions including Government, English, Literature, Dance, and Music, are the leading subjects offered with furthering opportunities for each. College preparation and direction I am very impressed with for those who are looking to find a moderate education, or stretch. Alum: I graduated from Troy Junior/Senior High School in 2018. Some of my favorite parts about the school when I attended was the sense of community between all of the age groups, the faculty, and the coaches. My graduating class had 28 people, so the school size is pretty small. Some of the big extracurricular activities that we focused on as a school would be our sports (football, volleyball, XC, basketball, track, baseball, softball) as well as Business Professionals of America, and FFA. These different activities that we were able to involve ourselves in helped us grow connections with each other throughout our time in high school, that built the community within the school. Looking back on the academic side of the school, I could not be more thankful for how prepared my teachers had gotten me for studying at a university.
